I wouldn't waste your time. It's an embarrassing turd.

Thanks, but so wierd its received a series for being so old.

Why can't they make 3x3 eyes again and complete the story.

Right. Finished Kaiji.

I think it might be one of my favourite series ever. Definitely the most satisfying. It's immense. By the end I was punching the air.

It's one of the most hopeful and life affirming anime's ever. You have to stick with it, but boy is it worth it.

It's great at ratcheting up the tension, isn't it?

Is there more than two seasons? I thought there was an arc about majong where I lost interest because it got very "inside baseball", and without knowing how to play the game I struggled to understand the stakes. I know the author had another series that was specifically about mahjong though, so maybe I'm confusing things.

But yeah, Kaiji is great and people should watch it. There's a live action film too, I think...

I saw a YouTuber say this about the second arc of the second season:

Spoiler

They were criticizing the anime's general pacing, and said when they realised the Pachinko machine was going to take up the whole of the rest of the season their "stomach dropped". Clearly they were watching Kaiji wrong. When you realise that it's doing that it just makes it even more amazing and puts even more tension riding on the outcome.

There are only two seasons. You're probably thinking of Akagi by the same writer and studio. I actually discovered this because I loved Akagi. I know Mahjong quite well so I got quite a lot out of that series, but it's likely to be quite impenetrable to newcomers.

The standard of criticism is so lacking in these things on YouTube/Reddit sometimes. They will talk about how it's about "gambling" and "struggling against all odds etc". But a lot of commentary I've seen misses that the show is also about

Spoiler

The class struggle. And how collective action will eventually triumph against self interest. It's got so many layers to its writing, and goes far far beyond gambling and really taps into aspects of the human condition

Just caught up with Titan this week and..

was great to see them having proper action scenes with Titans again, jumping off the tower and blowing them up was loads of fun but... I think I'm getting a bit bored of the show now. Looking forward to it finally finishing as its really becoming played out for me. Struggling to get back into it each week and dragging out the wait between episodes, luckily there's load of new decent seasonal stuff at the moment just a shame I'm going off something that was such a huge plus for so long.

Just going back through the thread to see comments on AOT and this is why I waited for the whole thing to be out before binging. Even though it finished a while back I only started it today and I honestly think binge watching it is the best format for the show. I binged all of Season 2 in one day which I've never done with a show before because I just never came down from the high some of the episodes leave you in. They love to leave every episode with a huge cliffhanger and being able to go straight onto it and not wait a week really works in the shows favour.

Yeah it can be great watching some shows all at once. My problem is I tend to watch most of every anime season so unless its the quiet period between seasons where I hit several at once I get stuck with the week by week :(

Just started watching this!

I'm only a couple in so far, and it's full of the usual Anime tropes as expected, but if you are a Tekken fan there's some good stuff there.

Lots of nice little touches like the hit effects and the moves from the game, but looks like they are tying the story together. There are a few characters in the intro I know nothing about as I don't own all the Tekken 7 DLC, so will be good to see their stories.

Like I say, nothing out of the ordinary but as an Anime & Tekken fan I'm enjoying the watch!

Watching the Star Blazers/Space Battleship Yamamoto 2199 remake. It's pretty good - never saw the original 70s series, but so far this has some decent storylines, great ship models, and nice art. Little bit of gratuitous fan service, and the military score sounds like it's probably based on the original and so sounds cheesy to my ears.

I just finished Season 4. It’s been a very entertaining experience watching it with my son who had seen it before me and my daughter who liked nothing better than to get us to pause it every 2 minutes to ask something (which often I didn’t know) - proper lols at times.

but I have to say the 2nd half (third? who even knows any more) of season 4 was a bit disappointing. The rest was all brilliant in different ways. I mean it was some dark shit from the off and then 4.something seasons in we get Ymir’s origin story and I was properly like “wtf?!”

I binged all of Tekken Bloodlines today and whilst the animation is quite clearly on the cheaper side it was still rather enjoyable. Its basically the Tekken 3 storyline but with a few newer fighters thrown in just for the tournament. As a big Tekken fan, I liked it and it was nice to see the moves I've used in the games being used on screen.

If you are interested in watched it though, please watch it in Japanese. The default on Netflix is English but I didn't like the English voice acting at all.

I put the English on at one point to see what Heihachi sounds like and it was awful. He sounds way better and more imposing in Japanese. Hearing him in English just isn't right anyway as they've always made sure he was Japanese speaking in the games.

It did end rather abruptly though so hopefully they've got another season coming.

Yeah it dips in quality at the end. Up until the beach the story is generally really good (except for Kenny), but the final arc starts off fascinating and just doesn’t quite come together.

Did anyone else watch Keep Your Hands Off Eizouken? Absolute gem of a show that completely passed me by when it came out. Three high school girls start a film club so they can make anime. No tropey nonsense or creepy shit, just a beautiful celebration of the art of animation. Loads of animation techniques broken down and explained with infectious enthusiasm. It makes me want to draw stuff and make it move around.

Chainsaw man starts on October 10th, Bleach on the 11th.

Disney got Bleach rights, which surprised me, but not sure if that is worldwide rights or not.

I'm skimming through Bleach again via Tubi with a VPN / Ad Blocker, god there were a lot of filler episodes in it that I don't remember sitting through.

That said, it's been so long since I last read the manga, I wonder if some of the later stuff was actually filler or just very bad pacing.
