I like confusing people today %-)

Been reading 20th Century Boys (manga), it's really really good. Finished 10 of 22 chapters today.

It's from the same Mangaka as Monster, and share the same mysterious supervillan plot so far.

It's really a fantastic series - the film adaptation of the first part is pretty excellent too - but it suffers a bit for its length. And when the final reveals are revealed, they turn out to be a bit disappointing, probably because it took so long to get to that point!

How far have you read? One of only two series I'm struggling to keep going with (Deadman Wonderland is t'other) because it seems to be one awful event after another. That and Yuno fucking terrifies me.

I read all of it yesterday. Awesome stuff. Yuno is beyond batshit insane and incredily creepy. Need new chapters.

There are 5 in the tv show!

Yeah but they never get used and there's a new girl on the block.

Good on you. I got to the point where

they start a new school or term or something? And Yuki looks like he's going to make friends with a bunch of people who actually like him. I had to stop cause I just knew it was going to end up horrible.

If you're after something similar, definitely give Deadman Wonderland a go. Written by the guy that created Eureka Seven. Nowhere near as cheerful though.

Watched Eva 1.11, the picture quality was obviously great coming from a Blu-Ray though there was very little in the way of extra scenes - also something odd that I noticed, they added halos above all the angels that appear briefly.

Not going to watch it on Crunchy Roll then?

I hear they have excellent quality.

:(

Who said anything about "excellent quality", I've only ever said its adequate :(

Thats clearly a decoding issue, I get the same with "proper" fansubs on occasion ffs.

And I know you were on the windup, but you know damm well I use HD rips for stuff I don't stream. And its Evangelion ffs!

As a former "all anime is shit" guy and now a, "Can I just shock you? I like anime, despite what I just said earlier" bloke, I'm looking for someone to recommend me some!

Here's my current anime background. I have watched:

- All of Death Note. First half brilliant, second half shit.

- Some of Wolf's Rain. Love it.

- First six episodes of Code Geass. Like it, bit confusing though.

- Glimpses of Cowboy Bebop. Looks good.

- A fair chunk of Ranma 1/2. Normally not my kind of thing, I "get" its charm, so like it.

- (Dragonball Z some years ago)

- A little Bleach. Seemed a bit too bipolar in its switches from seriousness to silly/humour for me.

...I think that's everything.

I watched the Gurren Lagann movie a few days ago. I don't really understand why Gainax decided to include almost everything from the first story arc and then confine the likes of Rossiu to a montage. Perhaps the plan is to cut all the political machinations from the second film and concentrate on the giant space battles instead, which makes a certain degree of sense I suppose. Still, I couldn't help thinking the film was a rather pointless exercise, although the studio is probably that much richer for it.

I've since gone back and watched the series again. You know what? It's kinda awesome. -_-

You might find this helpful.

I just couldn't believe the first and second halves were written by the same dude.

I think it's because he felt pressured to have

"evil" lose, but couldn't trample all over L's memory/character, so the inferior Near and Mello were born from that.

First story arc was the introduction, you always need an introduction. Rossiu and everyone else aren't important in the first half. Still, the movie wasn't really very good at all compared to the series. But the second movie is A LOT better apparently and is very different. "Equal to the second half, if not better."

I liked Death Note all the way through as well. The second half's intertwined plot-conspiracy reveal wasn't as good as the first half's, but I still found myself wanting to watch the next episode straight away.

Worst change of direction in an anime has to be Gantz. It just stops dead with no resolution. I would've loved for them to just keep on going alongside the manga. I never really minded the last few episodes of Evangelion. They're off their nut, but as a testament to an animators state of mind at least they're an interesting experiment. Not seen the two movies yet.

I've been working through Monster on and off for months. It's very good but I just find it way too long, and there are quite a few episodes that feel like padding. I'll stick with it though, but I'm pretty sure it works better as a manga.

Currently been side-tracked by the first series of Gundam 00. It took a few episodes to get into, but it's really taken off now.

Gantz anime is a big sack of ballsacks. The manga's hardly an outstanding piece of art or storytelling, but it's another example of an anime fucking up the source material badly.

They'll keep doing it, though, as there's money to be made from it.

Shit, I really need to get up to speed with Gantz.

Anime movie based on an ongoing manga in completely worthless filler shocker?

eh?

Its a a shorter, alternate retelling of "canon" plot, just as if it took place after Enies Lobby instead of before Arabasta (which is ironic seeing as they did Episode of Arabasta first...) with all the changes that entails. I've not see it, so can't really expand on Lorfarius comment, but it's hardly filler as you see it.
