I actually thought the dvd was out. I paid the same for Spirited away when that came out on dvd. It's expensive compared to uk price, but its a standard japanese price. Annoyingly

Actually, unless I'm being blind the only bluray I can find is only for the documentary (around 12 hours long!) and not for the actual film, it seems to be on dvd only. The blurays around £75.

I wouldn't be surprised, a lot of the Japanese dvd's are stupidly expensive. Not anime, but I was looking for some Ultraman boxsets and they're about $500us each.

The price in itself doesn't shock me as I've bought a good few japanese dvds in my time and normal ones tend to cost around the £30 mark. I just thought for £75 it would have been a special edition which it isn't though in this case you are admittedly paying for a very lengthy documentary.

My top er... nine, in no particular order. It's really just a very short list of all the anime I've watched and enjoyed.

Azumanga Daioh

Neon Genesis Evangelion (+ End of Evangelion)

The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya

Dragon Half

The Girl Who Leapt Through Time

Diebuster

Gurren Lagann

Kannagi

Ahh - I thought it WAS the same one as the one from DYRL.

That was the VF-1S Strike you're probably thinking of then?

As for the VF-4 and VF-11B, they look very different!

Macross7 eh?, I remember when it was first released on fansub ages ago and people were saying how bad it was. Kinda like the DB GT to the Macross legacy.

Dunno about that, I watched it back then too and the Macross fans pretty much loved it to bits. It was just everyone else that went "what the fuck..."

Something for you Gundam nuts on here: http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2009-...ially-announced

New UC Gundam anime announced apparently.

Yeah, it was announced at an Italian event a few weeks ago. The novels have been doing well in Japan and it is the 30th Anniversary this year too. I love Katoki's design work for this, some of his best work in years in fact.

It was the one shown piloted by Hikaru at the end of 2012 when he's flying alongside the Megaroad.

That would be the VF-4 Lightning III (not to be confused with the VF-X-4, which was the prototype). Nerdy factoid: The transformation sequence for this VF didn't exist until 1995, a good 11 years after the original was created. It was first used in Macross Digital Mission VF-X.

Shinsen's got the AIDSC&D from Funimation for FMA. Not that I was using them for this show. But the letter did say they are sending it to other groups too. Anyway, Shinsen responded on their site with

Sure we'll remove the torrents from the tracker. Doesn't mean we have to stop subbing it. We aren't an American based fansub group. I'm not particularly keen on giving into someone’s laws if we aren't really even on their soil. I think it’s silly we're getting C&D'ed yet again by Funimation. Anyhow, If Funimations laws and reach extends more so than the President of the United States, then we're all doomed. So, who wants to host our files on another tracker or torrent site? Let us know. Cause we aren't gonna stop subbing.

Hey, at least this isn't a death threat like ADV used to send us. Wow, weren’t they the classiest group of assholes I ever did meet?

Frankly, I would not be surprised if they end up in court if they do. I very much expect Funi has picked up the english language rights full stop. They would be clinically insane not to. It's pretty much inviting Funimation to make an example of them. Shinsen would be idiots to continue. Theres no benefit in challenging a copyright holder or licensor, they will easily win in a legal challenge. Funi are streaming it for free, Shinsen have nothing to prove here. If anything Shinsen would just be halting the huge progress that has been made in the last 6 months. Not wise. They could at least have said nothing, created a fake group and just dropped hints. You know, like sensible people do.

It's probably just my memory playing tricks on me but I was sure they did something odd with the Evangelion releases.

I don't think you are wrong as such, it could well be that End of Eva was out here before ADV had finished the series on DVD. IIRC End of Eva was purchased by me as soon as it came out, but I first read about the movie around the time I got my R1 boxset. That would be July 2001 (or maybe 2002, but im sure its 2001) , ADV's uk dvds started in August that year (first titles were Gunsmith Cats - which i remember buying in HMV that month, Generator Gawl and Gasaraki). Eva was with those or the following month IIRC, and on a bi-monthly basis as ADV used to do one range one month, another the next month, and repeat

Manga Ent kept delaying Death/Rebirth and End of Evangelion, in November 2001, they still did not have a date for the yanks according to ANN, so presumably not for us either. So I don't think your memory is wrong, in fact I'm sure I thought at the time that people might buy it without having seen all of the series (if any). It's not that ADV hadn't released it, just not complete on Uk dvd at the time. HMV were selling the Vhs for something stupid like £14 for 2 dubbed episodes when I started watching anime (Feb 2001). Between March and July I'd seen the first 8 eps on a combination of yank dvd rips (sub or dub, not sure) and a vhs I got from ebay for like £2. Before I convinced my parents to spend £120 on the R1 box for my birthday :) (and that was when £120 for 8 episodes was cheap! 3 years later I was buying entire seasons released by ADV for £15 NEW before shipping from the US)
