No one got my joke that Full Metal Panic is a show with both high schoolers and giant robots then?

Interesting side note: Full Metal Panic is shit. Fumoffu is OK.

I did, I just didn't post that I did, since I have nothing to add. Look what you made me do!

+1

Well, anyway, FMP I can take or leave but Fumoffu! is pretty damn great.

Seems to be Meh's new Bible Black.

As for FMP, Hollywood Reporter reported that Mandalay Pictures got the rights to a live action version. Possibly starring, facepalms at the ready, Zac Efron.

Oh man you are slow, He's already said the project is unlikely to ever materialise (and i referenced that on the wikipedia page about 5 days ago )

Yeah. One of the songs from it was really nice.

I couldn't say I noticed I was so hoping there was some massive payoff but the story just dragged and dragged. I invested a chunk of time watching the episodes and after hearing great reviews, well color me disappointed its a load of dross. Also Elfien Lied thats absolute garbage too, why do so many people like that anime?, wow its soo edgy with stupid ass 'cat' girls killing. Big deal!

Elfen Lied is shit, only mid teens like it because they think tits, gore and a girl pissing herself makes them look mature and edgy.

Shit, sorry.

I'm almost tempted to call Bibly to the thread, he'd learn you how good FMP is

I've been thinking....maybe we should have our own top 10/20..100 etc of anime series to watch? We could all vote and it would make a hell of a handy reference guide for others if it was pinned. What do you lot think?

The Meh list:

1: Macross. All of it.

2: Taimin Asagi

3: Bible Black

4: Twelve Kingdoms

5: Paradise Kiss

6-10: 5 other extreme hentai tentacle rape movies with dickgirls

Let's split it into general categories and have a top 5-10 for each. That way it won't be "I don't like this genre, therefore it is shit, your recommendations suck."

I'm thinking:

Sci-fi

Sci-fi/Mecha

Drama

Action/Adventure

Comedy

Slice of Life

Thriller

Paranormal

Horror

Am I missing anything?

I'm not convinced a list of any length is necessarily indicative of anything. The idea is to collect our fave titles right? I'm of the opinion that a list of "stuff you should watch" may be more beneficial. I'm not convinced that our fave shows are necessarily good entry points for "randoms", they may be shows to "grow into" from other stuff or as they discover what ticks their boxes - a "if you liked this, try this" sort of thing. Surely we should create a list that reflects titles that have lasting value to the medium full stop. For example I'd say Lupin III was one of my fave shows, but for "initiating" someone, I'd only ever show them Castle of Cagliostro. I wouldn't bother with the tv shows or the other movies/specials/ova's even though i enjoy them. I'm a big Evangelion fan, but I wouldn't recommend it to someone who's watched little, if any anime (5 years ago sure, but not now)

Thing is I would highly recommend Full Metal Alchemist as a good starting series but Meh would probably hunt me down and kill me. If we rely on votes for a top xx list at least that way there's a very good chance the majority of best series will be covered including those that would be good starters. For now I think we should stick to series rather than films otherwise it'll just be covered in Studio Ghibli films.

Not to put too fine a point on it but do we even have the numbers to put together a reasonable enough list? I mean granted there'll be some obvious programs that'll be in a number of peoples lists but if we go by people's top ten favourites, would we not end with a list that'd have plethora of entries only having like a tiny number of votes?

Animes I'd definitely like to see in such a chart:

Mobile Suit Gundam - The original, only really for the hardcore as the animation is VERY Sealab 2021, but ground-breaking.

Gundam 0080: War in the Pocket - A more recent slice of Gundam from the late 80s, short but sweet, great animation and a superb story.

Gundam 0083: Stardust Memory - Superb animation and brilliant battle scenes,.

Macross Plus - It doesn't get much better. Amazing visuals, superb music, lavish production values, brilliant.

Initial D - The original looks a bit ropey now, but the story will carry most people through. Elevates street racing to an almost Arthurian legend; great stuff.

Rurouni Kenshin - The series up until the end of the Kyoto arc, and the OVAs. (Personally I like all of it, but fan reception of the rest is mixed).

Akira - I actually dislike it for many reasons, but I can't deny that Akira is one of the finest pieces of animation ever put to cel. Ground-breaking, jaw-dropping, and sometimes bizarre - a thing of chaotic and dystopian beauty.

Patlabor 1&2 - I like them both, preferring the second, but I see them largely as almost one movie. Again, lavish production values and wonderful characters, each with marvellous stories.

Episode 2 of Eden of the East, enjoyed. It's certainly holding my interest, I hope it doesn't turn out to be disappointing or a waste of good potential like the last couple of series' I tried to watch.

Bang

Reminds me of Darker then Black. Just hope that this one has a plot.

Has anyone here seen Macross 7? I watched Macross Plus again with a friend tonight, first time I've seen it in several years, and I've decided to try and watch some more Macross - as apart from 00, I've now seen everything in Gundam I plan to see (everything except for Victory, X, Turn-A and ZZ, though I plan to watch Turn-A eventually).

I ask about 7 because from what I've read, fan reception of it seems to be mixed - whereas Frontier seemed to pick up good reviews, so I don't know whether to forego 7 and jump straight onto Frontier. Are there any hangovers from 7 to the plot of Frontier that I would need to know, or are they spaced significantly apart?

Monster. Mushishi. Serei no Morbito (which is good, but not compariable to the first two).
