Has anyone here seen Macross 7? I watched Macross Plus again with a friend tonight, first time I've seen it in several years, and I've decided to try and watch some more Macross - as apart from 00, I've now seen everything in Gundam I plan to see (everything except for Victory, X, Turn-A and ZZ, though I plan to watch Turn-A eventually).

I ask about 7 because from what I've read, fan reception of it seems to be mixed - whereas Frontier seemed to pick up good reviews, so I don't know whether to forego 7 and jump straight onto Frontier. Are there any hangovers from 7 to the plot of Frontier that I would need to know, or are they spaced significantly apart?

I just finished 7 last week. I don't think there was anything brought over from 7 to Frontier that I can recall, except maybe a song or two, which isn't important to the story.

'tis a silly show. If you watch it, don't expect to take it as seriously as another Macross. It's got a main character who is desperately trying to get aliens to listen to his songs, but gets frustrated when they keep running away. And fighters controlled with guitars. Among other things.

Hmmm. I may skip it then.

No! You're not allowed to! Macross 7 is absolutely fucking brilliant and completely surreal in places.

It's initially quite boring and baddie-of-the-week, with the same fucking song OVER AND OVER IN EVERY EPISODE... but then something happened. It grabbed a budget, the song list suddenly started to swell, and the story got fucking amaze. The ending is absolutely immense.

VF-19s, 11s, 17s and 21s taking on an evil GOD-THING. WITH SONG. A MACROSS GETS TOTALLED. SONGS ARE SUNG. THE BAD GUYS TURN INTO INTERGALACTIC GLAM ROCKERS!

Best. Ending. Ever.

Recently finished Love Hina, Rosario+Vampire and Seikreki. Any suggestions on what to go for next? Preferably something not involving giant robot's or high school students.

Taimanin Asagi.

If you DO watch it, make sure to note the episode length of some of them. You'll notice some are around 27 minutes. Those have M7 Plus mini-episodes tacked on the end, which are often batshit mental, but at times further the plot and fill in some of the blanks (for instance - where the bad guys got their fighter planes from).

Oh, and some have lots of promotional ads for Plus on them. And a few live performances of fire bomber songs. And the girl who plays Mylene pimping her *excrutiating* degut single.

And Gubaba.

The manga

Unlike some series where the anime might simply do a different ending ( ), The anime diverges within its first 10 minutes (2 characters present during the chase scene in the manga aren't even introduced until the next 2 episodes), and for most of it's run did it's own thing entirely. Even the stuff adapted from the manga is heavily changed in some ways, and the anime skips large amounts of character development and fairly important events that were already covered in the manga. The manga story also runs for much longer then the anime, with a lot more going on. Oh, and it has a proper ending, rather then just stopping.

Full Metal Panic.

Yes

Well Ive just bought Full Metal Panic and Fumoffu off eBay. Fingers crossed they are good. Also couldn't find that Taimanin Asagi but the search on eBay revealed some very interesting scantily clad ninja character. It's going on the future purchase list for sure.

Seems to be Meh's new Bible Black.

As for FMP, Hollywood Reporter reported that Mandalay Pictures got the rights to a live action version. Possibly starring, facepalms at the ready, Zac Efron.

Pirates for the win ;) It looks like all kinds of awesome

To Dandy....I've completely read all of Love Hina (before the anime) and loved it, great series though went a bit mad cap towards the end. My current favourite and I hope the series can live up to it over time is Seikiri.

Episode 2 of Eden of the East, enjoyed. It's certainly holding my interest, I hope it doesn't turn out to be disappointing or a waste of good potential like the last couple of series' I tried to watch.

Bang

I'd be like "Juiz, get me a sandwich." It'd be great.
