In quality or viewer terms?

In viewer figures:

Only if you look at it from a whiny manga fanboy point of view (i.e. "the meh"). If anything, that works more these days then when it used to. Kenshin got dragged off the air because they had run out of manga, and it missed the best arc of the series (The Flashback, although it did produce Trust/Betrayal, which would probably have been watered down if aired on tv). Bleach etc don't have this issue because they can go to filler for a couple of months and keep heavy viewing figures, and sell stacks of dvds. I've changed my mind a little about using previous weeks footage for longer "last week on show x" every week, because Space Battleship Yamato was doing it in the late 70s, so thats hardly a new thing either. And Evangelion, one of the most successfull series ever did the almost/still frame thing far, far worse then "the big 3" do each week

In quality terms:

Well, again, this is why I don't watch most anime on a weekly basis, so tbh it doesn't affect me like it does some of you. it's no skin off my nose if a scene drags the content out, because I don't leave myself wanting it to hurry up to the next big fight/cool dialogue. By their nature these shows are going to be handled like this, and I'm not convinced this is a recent phonomenon. In fact I'm positive it's not, it's just at the forefront more now as the market is at the point where everyone and his dog is watching these shows, and even 6 years ago nothing of this length would be seen by that many people in the west (I'm struggling to think of a major series past 100eps aside from Ranma and Urusei yatsura that was available around 2000-2003). The kids in japan don't care, but they buy Jump etc every week anyway, we don't have that luxury. I realise people "make up" an issue of jump by reading stuff every week, but thats a calculated decision to do so.

Ok, sort of rambled there, not that I expect any agreement  (and certainly not from meh)

Wait - what? I'm a whiny manga fanboy just because I want something to be faithful to the source material? Fuck you, you Bleach-watching, child-molesting, pocky-fucking faggot.

Oh meh you cad. It's hard to be faithful when the source material hasn't progressed much beyond what you've covered, and it's the same reason any adaption changes. It's not limited to your precious FMA. The fact you resort to proper insults shows you up more then it does me, and only goes to prove my point. You are judging the entire first anime just on the fact it diverges from the manga and takes a different route. Big fucking whoop. You won't even let people make up their own mind and are warning them off for crying out loud. You don't like the Anime diverging? Thats your perogative. But then Anime doesn't suddenly become shit because you prefer the manga storyline. The more you keep acting like a whiny manga fanboy, the longer you will come off as one. If you had just said "Oh I prefer the manga/didn't like the anime because reason x" in a opinion piece, no one would have looked twice. But you invited a challenge, and as usual you resort to cheap, unimaginative insults to make your point when someone responds to it (and whiny manga fanboy is hardly worthy of your reply, anyone else would have watched it fly over their head)

Now, I know all too well the large differences that can exist between adaptations as my first Tv anime and Manga were both the same series, and aside from 6-7 episodes were either original content, or heavily altered to join manga story points to whatever event the anime staff came up with. There was more filler then should have been given the manga content available at the time, and despite the completely different ending in the anime to what was going on in the manga, the anime wasn't going to be able to use it. Is the anime as good as the manga? Absolutely not. Is the Anime suddenly without merit? Not at all, it does exactly what it sets out to do and provides a resolution to itself.

I don't have an issue with you not liking the anime/prefering the manga. It's the insistence it is automatically the worst thing ever, just for doing something different when there was little to no original material to follow at the time. Especially when the original author had unusual control over what they could and couldn't do, and invited them to do something different. You clearly aren't stupid, but your far from convincing me you are looking at the two with a level head. Hence my comments. If you disagree fine, but thats no reason to be a jackass.

oh and before I forget....

:P

You speak of my insistence, when you yourself are hella-guilty of the same thing, for some reason mentioning my 'foam ridden mouth', and then again you mention me TWICE in another post. You totally fancy me, you massive gay.

Your foam is coming nowhere near my mouth, you bastard.

Been looking forward to the new FMA, ending of the old one seemed disjointed and rushed.

Can highly reccomend Speed Grapher for anyone who's not seen it, even if it's just to see the weirdness of the opening set to a Duran Duran song ;)

Hajime no Ippo: New challenger remains the best shounen anime out there, fuck Bleach in all its repetetive daftness.

Of course, the thing is we both enjoy winding each other up just as much. We both know this, we've been doing it long enough. Christ, your sig came from one especially fun day. I do completely disagree with your view of the anime (no shit eh?), but thats up to you. Like I say, it's less your opinion and more how you show it (wtf were you smoking when you called me a child molester?). I'm sure we'd have the opposite arguement over another show if we tried, and this is getting old now. When the manga eventually finishes, I'll start reading it.

Cool, I did consider downloading it a while back. I'll probably grab their One Piece#8 Episode of Alabasta (C+D'd by Funi, but still on usenet/boxtorrents/others), and eventually Macross F. Still undecided on some. If you've not seen it for a while, I recommend their Cagliostro. Amazing quality.

I watched a promo for Basquash and at first I was amazed by the visuals and then put off by a few things including everyone's faces and a boobs character. I'll give it a go regardless, perhaps I'll try watching the first episode tommorow. I just watched the first episode of the new FMA and found it to be pretty great, not sure I like how they switch between very serious moments and comedy so quickly but it was a very good first episode with plenty going on. I'll stick with it and see how it pans out.

Also, turns out that the goth loli anime is an educational programme that has 5 minute episodes. NEVER MIND

You should put Sengoku Basara on your list as well form what I hear, and maybe Shangri-la (torrenting both now, will give own opinion later)

Well I was going to give everything a couple of weeks to get started before looking at things to download. I'm not actually watching anything for say, 3eps so that groups have a chance to get sorted and people start deciding who is doing the best work. Last season i picked groups that were bloody useless at getting stuff out on time, or just dropped them. I'm cleaning off a few series (or a place to stop for a while in Gintama's case) before I start adding new ones

If I start anything now it will be FMA2 as I can always stream that for free if need be (regardless of it its region locked or not *pats proxy*)

I remember being more depressed by the poor 3rd "episode" and it's montage ending rather than the film itself. Still a good film though.

Speaking of which,

for the movie Summer Wars made by the guy behind The Girl Who Leapt Through Time. Looking quite good although you can see the main guy looks rather similar to Makoto.
