I meant more about the solution to the coup and the possibility of the civilians coming out of it alive. The whole station was always going to be destroyed, orbital weapon or not. Unless they now come up with some way top stop it.

They weren't the super tacticians though  Also in most other scifi destroying an orbital elevator is pretty catastrophic, I guess they could have assumed they wouldn't go to those lengths

00-16

Amazing how all those super-tacticians totally missed the blindingly obvious concerning the elevator and the civilian witnesses

I think it's perfectly reasonable not to immediately realise a government is going to cause a planet altering catastrophe, for something on this level.

I think you mean the 00 Raiser, not the Exia. I wouldn't really call it merked, more like "intense fight". Was awesome though, and I laughed at how casually Graham/Bushido dodged 3 Transam'd Gundams firing at him while chatting to Setsuna at the end.

Yeah, my mistake, but you know what I meant. It was the fact that

as you said, he just casually bopped along avoiding 3 Gundams in Trans AM mode. All it needed was a hearty chuckle at the end to make it perfect.

So, another week another Gundam.

Missle Command-00! Was close with the deflecting guess... though that was kinda obvious. Now for the subs so I can workout what it's all about.

OH MY GOD ANDREI YOU STUPID WHINEY LITTLE PERVERT

This fucker needs to die. Slowly.

On the plus side;

Maries/Pierres might actually do something now. Specifically beat the shit out of Andrei for being a cock. I also hope there's going to be a moment when some soldier or officer goes "oh by the way, didn't you know your father went there on a solo mission to stop the rebels". The look on his face then will be glorious.

Oh man, Gundam 00 ep 17:

AWESOME. I was incredulous - actually laughing out loud with disbelief - when Setsuna's beam turned out to be a beam SABER. Then came the big finale (acompanied by Kenji Kawai's AWESOME music) which sent the whole thing over the top - 11/10 stuff, for sure. It reminded me of one of the last levels of ZOE: 2nd Runner, except way bigger and lots more going on. The whole time, I kept saying to myself "God, this would be a PERFECT level on Armored Core - you know, if Armored Core were any good.

Seriously, the first season of this show pales significantly to what they're doing now. Absolutely one of the best anime I've watched in a long, long time.

Anyone know when the season 2 OST is due? God, so good.

There's already three OSTs out, two for the first series and one for the second. The third OST has these two gems:

I've got the first two, just need the third!

Gyao next!

And my favourite...

'Strike' - the OH SHI-- theme

YES YES YES. My favourite too - it's the good sheeeeeeet. Cheers buddy!

P.S. What's your take on this second series, anyhoo? You being the Gundam go-to guy, and stuff?

Possibly a bit of an epic request, but is anyone able and inclined to give me a 101 on Big Robot Anime? I've become addicted to SRW games and I'd like to be able to appreciate the backstories of everything that goes into them, but my word is it a tangled old mess of series. I have no idea what's considered worthwhile. I'm already on the case with Gundam thanks to you fine folks, but Mazinger, Macross, Getta Robo, etc, etc, etc... I'm completely ignorant about.

Older Super Robot stuff like Getter Robo and Mazinger is mostly not available in English. There are newer shows for both series though that have US DVD releases.

A lot of the older stuff is also bad-guy-of-the-week type affairs with a lot of reused animation, but if you don't mind this sort of thing then there are plenty of shows to check out.

I'm watching Combattler V myself at the moment, which has been great so far. It also has 2 sequels, Voltes V and Daimos. Although I don't think there are subs for daimos.

I quite like the Brave Series shows. Although only GaoGaiGar and Fighbird are completely subbed the other show are in various states of being subbed or were partially subbed before but dropped. So check out Might Gaine, Exkaiser, J-Decker etc too.

Also GEAR Fighter Dendoh has been picked up recently by another sub group. I watched the HK subs of that and really enjoyed it.

Make you you've watched at least some Macross, Gundam and Evangelion before you watch Gurren Lagann.

Personally I thought Eureka Seven wasn't bad either.

For videogames, play Xenogears. It's as fucked up as Evangelion, but it's good.

So, 00 17, can't really say more than what's been said. Loved it all, it was amaze. But my god do I want the music that plays at 10:11 when

TRANSAM RAIIIIIIIIIISER

happens.

Fucking Andrei. :D

Gunbuster and Gunbuster 2 (Diebuster). That's a great start. Other great Super Robot shows are G Gundam, GaoGaiGar and Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann.

For slightly smaller mecha shows, i'd recommend the Gundam franchise, Macross franchise, Votoms and Eureka Seven.

I wouldn't say Gunbuster 2 is a great start. Personally I would say it's something to watch after you've seen something like FLCL and want more awesome looking animation in a six episode format.

Is the macross movie "Do you remember love?" much cop?

It's absolutely fucking incredible... but don't watch it until you've seen the show. It's more a companion piece than something you can appreciate without seeing the series.

The title song is utterly gorgeous, too.

(and a bit raped in Macross Frontier, sadly)
