Apart from a few glaring examples (well, one in particular springs to mind right now), I was surprised at how they managed to tie the three shows together in Robotech.

Judging by the first episode of the "Masters" story arc, not very well. The style of animation is very different and the designs of pretty much everything lack much similarity (uniforms, logos, etc). They try to write it out by clumsily saying that certain characters were killed and that the cities in the original were poisoned by radiation, which is why you don't see them again - but it's still not done particularly well.

Well, it is 18 years later, or whatever, so much would have changed. But the cities is the big thing I was thinking of, like how Macross is suddenly under a big hill.

Yeah, but whilst some things would have changed, others wouldn't have. The designs of the mecha look more similar in the 3rd arc than in the second one.

Speaking of Robotech, I just picked up the massive boxset,(85 episodes), in the Zavvi sale. Brought back some memories, checking out the 1st episode. Has to go on the backburner for now, I'm ploughing through Last Exile, Full Metal Panic? Fumoffu and Berserk at the moment.

How much did it cost?

Is there an online store anywhere, based in the UK (or specifically selling region 2 DVDs) where you can browse anime boxsets? I'm thinking of buying one, but HMV/Zavvi are hit-and-miss as to what they have in-store and most sites listing them are American.

Unfortunately the "direct" proxy link to crunchyroll won't work - the video page claims you have javascript off or an outdated flash player. So you have to use americanproxy.org and enter crunchyroll manually. Once you do that though it should last for a whole session, so unless you reboot or possibly close your browser, you should be able to watch several episodes without having to load the proxy again

I've just watched the first episode of Galaxy Express 999, and the stream was faultless. Video quality (with the default h.264 option) was as good as you are going to get - i.e. some small color blocking, and probably not much different from the dvds. If you are using a widescreen resolution, the video will be bordered at the sides in full screen, but if you drop to a 4:3 resolution (1024x768 for example) the video will fill the screen (my personal preference). Also the time bar/controls stay on the bottom of the screen permanently, but it doesn't obscure anything as they are fairly small. useful to know how much of the episode is downloaded too. Most importantly, the subs aren't shit

I have a fairly big tv, the borders are rather large. I don't turn on forced aspect ratios, because I don't find them a issue. Games with an inherent disadvantage to incorrect ratios (i.e. 2d shooters) yes, 4:3 video content? No. I'm not interested in a debate on the issue, I'm just pointing out that there is a choice if you want it and that the aspect ratio is determined by your video settings and not the site

It only looks that way if you are looking to compare it. I don't watch anything and think "shit, this looks shit", so i don't enforce ratio aspects. It's quite simple, and if you are going to take the piss for me pointing out that the borders aren't forced as they appear to be, you must be either incredibly bored, or just being pathetic. I'm seeing it as a combination of both, so i suggest watching some anime to give you something more constructive to do

£13.87

Wow, pretty good - and that's the whole set? Not just the Macross one?

I'm not too surprised though. The RRP might be £50 but I think Amazon have had it at 25 for ages now. I bought the movie that came out recently which caps the series off, "The Shadow Chronicles" for about £4.

But you don't get to choose the sub group you want. And you don't actually get the file, let alone in what format you want - so you can't do anything with it - change the typesetting, use it in video editing or picture editing programs (for example, I tend to make animated gifs a fair amount). Can you post a screenshot of the best quality video on the site? I want to see if it actually looks any decent in fullscreen on my 24" monitor. If they can beat the episode 25 I have (750mb) of Macross Frontier, then i'll tip my hat. But how long do the videos take to buffer? And how much anime is there? For example, I camp the BSS IRC channel on sundays waiting for subs, and get it off the bot in 30 minutes the moment they finish subbing it. With the actual file, I can give my friends anime series as well! It's how I got a fair few of them into it, by giving them GL via portable external hard drive.

Just finished watching Guyver 2005 there now and really enjoyed it. I've only ever seen the 2 films (first one's a bit naff but I really enjoy the B movieness of Dark Hero) but nothing of the anime or manga before.

Is it a manga that's still ongoing and is it any good ? I'd guess so considering the anime just ended with

Sho in chrysalis and then coming back as an even more bad ass guyver and killing ZX. Plus Chronos now have taken over the world which did genuinely surprise me

Pity that there's no sign of any more episodes being made, guess the ratings where poor or something like that.

Just getting Gundam 00 14. BSS compare the new opening with some other show, but don't name it. What is it?

It's some kids Magical Girl show. The kids at the elementary school I taught at, loads of the girls at least, had pencil cases of it.

The manga's still going. The anime tells about... 2/5 of what's out there. Pirate the fuck out of it, since it got dropped like a brick last time it was put out in English form.

And yeah, I'm guessing the ratings killed it. It takes way too long to get rid of that no-budget feel it had, and progresses like a snail at some points.

So, Gundam 00 then.

Seraphim Gundam, oh yes.

Mister Bushido's ninja Flag, oh yes.

FUCKING RIBBONS oh yes.

But!

Marina singing? FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF

First I was, "Wait, even more hands?" and then it split completely in two  They just keep pulling stuff out of nowhere.

Ribbons wants his toy back, poor chap.

I wonder what trick Bushido has at his disposal now. I'm wondering if it is some kind of countermeasure rather than an offensive weapon.

Empress looks interesting too.

Seraphim looked pretty cool, been waiting ages to see it

The whole ali al sachs and setsuna thing is getting boring with the not killing each other at times...

and i don't think mr bushido's flag looks ninja-y at all, more like a samurai surely?
