Whilst the buzz about ippo returning is in the air - I found a perhaps better boxing anime. Much more gritty and amazing with the most un-likeable but understandable main character I've come across. It's call Ashita No Joe and it's pretty old, some of the character designs are a bit goofy but the story is so amazing and rich, it has the feel of a real life story and it's just brilliant. Very gritty and tiny bit too depressing (with the main character fucking everything up for himself all the time) at times but its just amazing, I love it - I really do.

Only the first 14 but good quality and worth a watch definitely.

Thanks for posting that. I've only seen the first episode before. I think the ending (which was spoilt for me by reading some manga book or the other) is supposed to be quite moving.

My god, never thought I'd find another Ashita no Jo fan in here. One of my all time favorite series, watched it when I was very young, maybe 5 or 6. Its indeed a very moving story, I remember crying towards the end of it.

If you liked it then I am sure you will LOVE Ganbare Genki, another old-ish boxing show.

Yeah, Ippo is amazing too. Its just that I still remember all the anticipation and good times I had with the other shows and maybe thats why I like them more than Ippo.. its still one of my all time favourite modern anime shows.

Well I certainly don't remember that fight being in the series, Takamura hasn't really fought anyone that's given him too much trouble in the series so far so I guess we'll be seeing it in the new series. Considering I've read fans opinions who read the manga mentioning this fight on more than one occasion it must be pretty epic :P

I don't remember the details of it since it's been a few months since I've read it but I do recall the fight itself was pretty damn awesome. Probably close to the first Ippo versus (I think) Sendo fight.

I actually have this on a hard drive. Think i'll watch it when i'm not bogged down by exams.

Take a magical girl series. Then add in giant gundam-esque death rays being fired all over the place. Same effect.

Edit:Beam spamming

I've just had my love of anime brutally murdered.

Against everyone's advise, I went ahead and watched Gundam Seed DESTINY.

:P

You should grab Gundam X to restore your faith in anime. The lead character hijacks a mobile suit with just a flashbang and a grapple hook, nicks a bunch of stuff from a bounty hunter, breaks into an army base, steals a Gundam, wipes out hundreds of enemy suits in one go and puts his girlfriend in a coma in the first two episodes.

Is that the fight there ? (it's the manga shown to music) It looks fucking awesome after watching that, can't wait to see it animated!

That's the fight. Just as good as I remember. :) It's one of those ones where

you can really see how Takamura himself is stepping up to bigger and bigger things. Not just Ippo.

Makes me itch to see the next Takamura fight coming up in the manga. :D

Edit: Wow Jack that does sound pretty awesome. :o

Reminds me of how bad it made the feddies look in 0083 when Gato casually walks into the Australian base where the newest test type Gundam with a nuke in its arsenal is being kept, walks up to it past lots of soldiers who don't recognise him but gladly tell him where the new Gundams are being kept, hops into one with the nuke, destroys the base, and gets out and evacs to Africa.

What a guy. Too bad his colony drop didn't work.

Yeah. It should be fine. Quite a few of the shows are set in completely separate universes so there's not as much continuity to be aware of and this is one of them. Make sure to get both seasons though, the one that's finished and season 2 that's currently airing now.

JohnC, how was GTO?

I wasn't sure what I'd be getting before watching, but I ended up really enjoying it. Even bits where it may drag a bit have something mental happen in the middle. I love the facial expressions they do from time to time.

As for the ending, I was kind of expecting something like that. Perhaps not terribly satisfying, but not bad, and it is pretty much implied that the consequences of the last couple of episodes do get worked out off screen. Was it ended slightly prematurely or did it run its planned length? They did seem to rush the last couple of episodes to conclude it.

Started watching it anywho, not sure about the heroes like, seem a bit full of themselves and a bit emo.

The characters get a lot better as the season goes on. Although Lockon is awesome for all of it. 00 starts off slow although it immediately gets points for having space elevators, but once it picks up the pace it becomes a great show.

It's an anime filler-shit ending. The manga goes on for a mile past the penultimate episode.

And it gets even more amazing afterwards as well. I think the end of the anime involved the

black haired bitch in the class that was determined to get rid of Onizuka? That gets handled in a completely different and better manner than in the manga

. Plus, y'know, it actually has a proper ending rather than "oh shit it's the end let's wrap it up somehow".

it's text book ongoing manga ending, themanga is 25 or so volumes, and are one of the most densely packed/event filled manga ever written. The Anime was always going to run out of steam. the manga was only just finishing when tokyopop licensed it, whereas the anime had finished years before.

Despite the ending GTO is an absolutely fantastic anime, another one of my favourites. I had heard the manga is a lot better and will read it eventually but it doesn't stop the anime from being fucking awesome.

At the minute I'm watching Gintama and Urusei Yatsura, a great double bill to watch a few episodes of each before going to bed. I wasn't sure what Gintama would be like but decided to give it a go and it's a lot of fun, completely mental and offbeat but not in a horrible 'look at me aren't I wacky?' way. Urusei Yatsura just gets better and better as well, I will never fail to find Atarus pervert grin funny before he goes chasing after a woman

Is Gundam Wing one of the good or bad Gundam shows? I can guess what Meh will answer

I think it's a love or hate thing. A lot of people have nostalgia feelings towards it, while others hate it. It's certainly the most notorious for having grunt units who stand there and do nothing while the main cast destroy hundreds of them to show how good they are, and having lots of yaio undertones and fangirls. Although the yaio undertones are highly debateable, and more of a fandom delusion compounded by myth and exaggeration.

I believe it's somewhere around average, and Endless Waltz is meant to be quite good.

The manga's a bit more disturbing than the anime, too.

It's cunt-munch. Like every single fucking Gundam show there ever was, and will ever be.

Go watch Macross.
