What's it do?

Seems 2009 is the year of streaming releases; Natsume Yuujinchou's sequel is to appear on Crunchyroll within an hour of broadcast with subs.

Shame Crunchyroll is such an awful site.

Oh and Funimation licensed the Eva movie.

You know those dual audio files which annoyingly default to English and no subs? It can fix that, or, as I do, strip out the English altogether. It is really easy and bloody quick too. I've been remuxing episodes of Eureka Seven that I've been grabbing all week and it takes 6 seconds each.

If you use Media Player Classic, you can set the default language options to pick JP+subs. I've got mine to default to: French, German, Spanish, Italian, Dutch, Japanese, Cantonese, Russian, English. All non-English with subs. Works for pretty much everything I've got.

How do you do that? I can't seem to find it.

yet more signs that companies are seeing the benefits of youtube etc

According to the press release, the amount of Kadokawa's income from Youtube for November 2008 has reached 10 million yen (approx. $109,000). Kadokawa has an official channel on Youtube and allows the uploads of MAD/AMV by users. The main reason for the increase of the income was the introduction of "InVideoAd", which overlays an ad on a video. Kadokawa said "The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya",

"Lucky ☆ Star" and "Strike Witches" are the most popular titles as the sources of the videos.

With Prices are dropping both here and in the states, companies coming around to the idea of half/complete seasons as a first release(viz/funimation) or including 2 discs in a single release at normal rrp (manga ent), and with streaming becoming more popular (viz's same week naruto subs start this month), the market is changing for the better

I wandered what the streaming of stuff like Naruto was like. I fired up the official Viz site, where I was informed I couldn't play the content in my region (supposedly outside US/CAN). I tried crunchyroll where I had no such problems. As for the stream, I was quite surprised. I was running torrents, but the stream never paused or skipped. I watched 5minutes from the starts and skipped to random places in the episode and there were no issues. You get choice of quality, and with h264 the video was pretty much at the high end of my expectation. Easily watchable in full screen mode, you just get side borders on windscreen monitors (will probably be 16:9 when they get further into the series). Subs are quite large, easily readable and unsurprisingly they give names in western order. Dunno about jutsu's, the first episode isn't exactly fight heavy.

I'm watching the various Gundams, got addicted to them. Watched the original, 08th MS team, 0080, 0083, and i'm on Zeta right now. Will then watch CCA, F91 and Victory. Then Turn A, and that's all of the worthwhile ones if I remember correctly.

Even just seeing the words 'Strike Witches' sends me into an uncontrollable rage. I'm typing this on the charred remains of my computer which will likely cease working any seco

I'm watching it as the DVDs come out. Didn't know there were people who were possible of hating it, it would be like hating a mentally crippled person.

You're only supposed to watch it for pantless, lesbian teenage girls with magic propellers attached to their legs anyway. Plus the naked gonzo breast shots from the dvd releases.

I never thought I'd type that sentence.

In other news, Minami-ke's started again featuring more 'fabulous' Hosaka Hopefully something closer to the first season. New Ippo in a day or two I think.

Oh and a gift for meh while he's still in Macross mode.

Edit: Piro, go watch Nanoha.

You forgot Gundam X. :( And you also like Strike Witches. Go jump off a fucking cliff.

Whilst the buzz about ippo returning is in the air - I found a perhaps better boxing anime. Much more gritty and amazing with the most un-likeable but understandable main character I've come across. It's call Ashita No Joe and it's pretty old, some of the character designs are a bit goofy but the story is so amazing and rich, it has the feel of a real life story and it's just brilliant. Very gritty and tiny bit too depressing (with the main character fucking everything up for himself all the time) at times but its just amazing, I love it - I really do.

Only the first 14 but good quality and worth a watch definitely.

Is this Fighting Spirit series any good?

I only started watching the anime last night but it's ridiculously enjoyable. I'd read the manga before but thought I'd better see how the anime fairs before the new series and it's really enjoyable so far. Skips out some of the in-between fillery stuff but doesn't suffer much/at all because of it.

Really getting psyched for the new series. Can't wait to see which fights are going to get shown. Anyone that watched the first series know where the series/OVA's ended? I've been told it'll continue on from wherever it ended.

There seems to be a couple of DVD sets on eBay covering 39 episodes between them. I assume thats the whole lot?

It ended with the OVA where

Ippo defends the japanese featherweight belt against his first challenger, that doctor fella who knew where to hit certain points of the body to cause mucho damage

The series is over 70 episodes long so that's just over half of them in that set. I have the 2 dvd boxsets that Geneon had released, something like 16 dvds in total.

The main reason I love Ippo so much is that there are no real bad guys, sure there's goals that Ippo, Takamura etc want to reach but none of the other boxers they fight against are bad people as such. They all have their own back story and reasons for fighting.

Oh god, so there's the chance of

Takamura and Eagle fight? Or was that done?

Oh and Zapp, I can see you're reading this. It's your fault I've started watching it. :P

^_^ Sorry...

:P

It's the most anime I've watched in the last few months and might finally have kickstarted my love for the stuff all over again. I suppose that also says something about its quality and addictiveness. As mr_woo mentions, the characters are what make it for me. I love Ippo and the guys, particularly the stuff they get up to outside of the matches (the stuff involving Mashiba always gives me something to laugh at :) ). The only one I don't really like is Sendo

because he took out Volg without a "proper" finish to the match. Volg should have won! ;)

Well I certainly don't remember that fight being in the series, Takamura hasn't really fought anyone that's given him too much trouble in the series so far so I guess we'll be seeing it in the new series. Considering I've read fans opinions who read the manga mentioning this fight on more than one occasion it must be pretty epic :)
