wikipedia to the rescue:

The two-disc "Evangelion: 1.01 You Are (Not) Alone: Limited Design Edition" was released on DVD in Japan on April 25, 2008. The "1.01" release contains what Anno called "266 shots" that received minor enhancements and fine tunings in picture, editing, and sound quality. The first disc contains the movie and the script, while the second contains music videos, trailers, and the "Explanation of Evangelion" feature, which overlays the film text overlays to explain what things are. In addition, each DVD set contained actual film strips of five animation frames from the film (which were otherwise only available in the "Rebuild of Evangelion 1.0 All Collection" artbook), some of which received bids at online auctions over 29,000 yen or over $200 (frames from the famous scene of Rei smiling at the end of the film were sold for 152,000 yen or about $1,460)[10]. Only 300,000 of these special-edition DVD sets were made. The film was released in a "Normal Edition" on May 21. A Blu-ray Disc release has not been announced at this time.

By April 29, less than one week after its release, more than 219,000 DVDs of the film were sold, making it the best-selling DVD of 2008 in Japan at that time.[11]Ultimately, the "Limited Edition" Release ranked as the fourth best-selling DVD in Japan in the first six months of 2008, selling an estimated 263,395 copies in that time.[12]

As the chart only counts the first week, it's hard to know just how many copies it sold over the year

Because this thread can move quite quickly, I tried googling for that image showing the winter schedule from a while back. No luck, but I stumbled onthis site, which is better because it gives basic plot summarys and staff info, which makes it a lot easier to see if anything is looking interesting. I have to say that based on what I've read, I'll be able to catch up on some long running shows. only one or two look interesting enough to me.

Theres also a rumour that Funimation have licensed Evangelion 1.0:You are (not) alone!

Despite whatever you thought of the series, the sheer ammount of interest and controversy (as well as the endless, endless speculation of the next episodes) it generated was huge at the time and quite something to see. I hope they never do it though; I just can't see how they'd do it or more to the point why other than for the sake of milking it dry. Go make my 4th season of Banner of the Stars you bastards!

Still, at least I find out a manga I'm reading is getting the anime treatment. All I need now is for anime versions of Mirai Nikki and The World God Only Knows to be announced...

Can anyone recommend anything similar to Gurran Lagaan. I loved its sense of wonder and stupid shitty plans that should never work but somehow do so because of the belief that you can pierce the heavens with your burning ambition....

GaoGaiGar. Weekend kids show series from 80's? 90's? that's surprisngly good even if it is cheesy in places. Alternatively, Gunbuster and Diebuster if you haven't seen them yet.

Edit: Do you have some kind of script that detects people who post "can you recommend me an anime?" posts and set up an automated reply for Bible Black meh?

As someone who's favourite anime is Gurren Lagann, I recommend Gunbuster and Diebuster. And Gao Gai Gar. And G Gundam. More to come soon.

One of the wikinazis would only delete our edits :(

hence why I'm offering help so you learn to do it properly  Also if you participate in a project (such as the anime and manga project that I help out with), you'll learn a lot quicker then simply making a load of edits and not knowing what the hell you are doing.
