Dandy_Sephy
Many thanks to whoever recommended Tales of the Abyss to me (Mr Jeff?), it's great and I'm glad I never got around to playing the game. What are the other Tales of...Anime like? I finished the Symphonia and Eternia (the games), are the anime any good?
Mr.Jeff
Tales of Symphonia....not so good. Unlike Abyss, they had to cut loads of stuff out to fit just the first disc into 4 ova's. Could be watchable if you've never played the game though. Odd hearing the Japanese voices after sitting through 70 hours of the English. The second disc covering the other planet stuff is in production right now. Eternia I've not seen or played. Abyss is rather good though. Gives me hankerings to play it even though I don't have it. If it wasn't for Warcrack, I'd fire up Symphonia.
Dandy_Sephy
I think what surprised me about Abyss is that after 5 eps, its not blatantly obvious who the real villain is (although there is certainly a contender or two), which is probably purely down to the different storytelling mechanics between the two medium and with anime I expect to get a clear idea of the villain early on. For a completely random show, I'm also currently watching Slam Dunk. The animation reminds me of Kare Kano. Hmm I should watch that... Also some new info has come to light regarding the naruto Shippuden deal: TV Tokyo announced that they will provide new episodes of Naruto with English subtitles in Crunchyroll one hour after the airing in Japan. New NARUTO episodes will be available only on the pay channel for the first seven days and they will be provided for free after that. This service is intended for users living in any countries except Japan and will start on January 8th, 2009.After the start of the new pay channel of TV Tokyo, Crunchyroll will stop accepting any illegal videos. JohnC
Luke (in Tales of the Abyss) is such a whiney cunt though. And as of episode 8 in particular, a cunt in general too.

Preacher
Hmm, just finished watching episode 7 of Gundam 00How utterly badass can Mister Bushido really get?! Really?! I don't think we've seen enough of him yet. Hell, even Zechs Marquis is a better masked man. Just watched episode 8: Tiera in drag while having his very existence torn asunder by Libbons and his innovator bum-chums. Oh, and I hate Billy Katagiri - no wonder Sumeragi was trying to drink herself into an early grave.
Dandy_Sephy
4eps of Gundam 00 First season left for me, should finish it tommorow. Started Genshiken 2 finally - I've converted it to iPhone friendly format so I can watch at work. Also, with the Viz/Naruto announcement Dattebayo have 'announced' they will stop Shippuden subbing on the day Viz's service starts. While it's easy to dismiss most Dattebayo statements as (usually, but not always obvious) trolls, there really is no point in them continuing it if Viz are doing next day subs for subscribers and next week subs for free. So it's hard to see why they would troll this particular event (especially as they stated a few months back in a fansubbing/industry panel that licensor's should start streaming services), but I guess we'll have to wait and see. They'd "need" to pick something else up, but they aren't exactly eager to jump on many shows and the Shonen shows are all taken
GViper
Genshiken 2 was actually kind of upsetting for me. It just lost a little bit of charm on that second series, and wasn't as good as the manga. Of course, the Genshiken guys would love to hear me say that, I'm sure I hope they don't stop subbing it is the truth, as the subs will be full of believe it's and fake jutsu names etc etc. They do have Bleach still though

JohnC
Seems Soul Eater has fallen foul of Funimations C&D orders. Rumbel and Tadashi have stopped doing it. Mr.Jeff
Should I be assuming there is manga content to support a potential 3rd season? Possibly not a season. An OVA maybe. Basically it clears up Sashara and Ogiue much more clearly than the random "everyone's friends" ending .

Welll the idea's been floating around since the first season since he does look ridiculously feminine. So I've somehow managed to watch this over 2 and a bit days, just by watching episodes on the way to work, during break and on the way home (2eps,5eps,5eps), and I've had time to think about each episode in between. Basically I'm going to disagree, If it wasn't for your comment Mr Jeff, I'd not have even given it a second thought. Unlike tanaka and Oono I really didn't see sasahara and Oigue as a couple. A couple of random glances didn't do it for me, whereas like the Genshiken gang, I was more surprised that Tanaka and Oono took so long, I assumed it was already happening . The series does move quite fast (AzuDaioh syndrome) and so certain characters "go missing" for quite a while, but overall I'd say it was on a par with the first, a couple of episodes were possibly better. I think Oigue helped fill the gaps created, although Kuchiki was obviously only put in for the more outrageous gags. Although without seeing the manga I can agree that a full series is probably unlikely due to the speed of the show meaning most of the characters have already moved on (I'm also confused as to the actual time passed between Madarame +co's graduation and the final episode). It's been a year though so the chances of an Ova being done seem fairly low, but it seems that the mid season ova was released 2 years after season 1 finished! Random: according to MAL, i'm 5 eps short of 4,000 episodes (not as much as others *looks at Mr Jeff*, but that doesn't change the fact thats a very large number). Not sure how accurate that really is as I've probably missed some shows off and have inaccurate numbers for some listed. I'm also hazy as to how many times I've rewatched certain things. If I'd known what I know now, I'd have kept records since the day I started

I disagree with you there but this could be down to my poor memory of it. I think the first part of the series certainly didn't have much focus on Sashara and Ogiue since it was mainly about Tanaka and Ohno as well as the ever disturbing episode 5 but I can't help but feel that beyond that it was mainly about the development of those 2. The glances were part of it but there's also the way that Ogiue follows Sasahara's lead for the recruitment festivel and you can't really say there was nothing going on when he phones her up first after getting a job while's still naked from the shower. That scene in particular showed more than the usual "awkward soncersation between social inept people" I just kinda feel that if it's not about those two for the second half, it kinda makes you wonder what the focus was really for. If it wasn't about them it was just a series of random genshiken events that didn't really go anywhere conclusive. You should definitely give the manga a shot though since it provides a much cleaner, finished ending. I'll look up the point where season 2 finishes and post the chapter/volume number and edit it in later. I'm sure I can find some links for you to acquire it should require. Edit: The above post might not be entirely coherent since I've had 3 hours sleep. Edit: Volume 7, Chapter 43 is the chapter just after Sashara tells everyone he got the job. I wouldn't even say the first half of the series was about the other two as it was all dealt with in the one episode, aside from a relatively minor scene in the graduation episode. However the way it was handled across the series as a whole before that episode means it didn't need any more. With sasahara and oigue it just seemed random until that last episode. Really, I would say that I've no interest in that particular pairing, which really is unusual - I'm usually a sucker for those (I've been waiting years for it to hppen in FMP!). I'll check out the manga at some point, I don't read manga versions close to having watched the anime as I usually do that instead of rewatching.
