Finally got to see the first Geass series. Wasn't anything as bad as this thread led me to believe.

Hey, loads of us loved it. I still think the first series was amazing fun. Isn't it just Dandy and Meh who severely dislike it?

First wasn't bad at all.

BTW, where did everyone get Gintama 25+ from? I've grabbed Shinsen's 1-24, and from ep 33 onwards. Can't find 25-32 anywhere (tokyo-t, pirate-b and mini-n, shinsen's trackers).

First season was quite good actually. Unfortunately, R2 cannot be taken as a sequel seriously at all.

Just watched it.

Standard stuff, though the animation was shockingly shit at times (for a movie)

I thought the first half was actually quite interesting. The second half though.... the only enjoyable thing was Kenpachi.

In fact, why didn't they just make the movie about him?

Is that the Diamond Dust Rebellion? The one which was supposed to be written or conceptualised by Tite Kubo or something? I don't know if I can raise the effort to watch it...

The thing is, I liked the first couple of eps! It just gradually fucked up more and more, completely wasting what it was building. Then they made the most interesting move possible

shirley? finding out zero's identity

then completely blew it by "undoing" it before the next episode had finished. That was the last straw for me, and the recycling of clamp dynamics wasn't helping.

I'm sure I've made the comparison before, but it's a lot like bebop was for me. Massively hyped, but utterly failing to live up to even the most conservative hopes. geas was the only show I had dropped for a actual reason in 2 or 3 years. I've only ever decided to drop a show completely a handful of times, so it was a big deal for me to ditch it. As big a following as it has, it seems to be gathering more and more detractors.

Aye, the backlash is mainly because the second series was really fucked up by a last minute decision to put it on at a more family friendly time slot. The fans who enjoyed the tone and themes of the first are slowly being disappointed by the plot which they're making up as they go along. (They had to scrap six months of preparatory work because it was deemed unsuitable for the new time slot).

If you didn't like Cowboy Bebop yet can sit through hundreds of episodes of One Piece something is wrong.

Let's make something clear. The first 160 or so episodes of One Piece are incredibly well done (excluding the fillers) and in my opinion surpass the already brilliant manga. Then Toei fired all their veteran animators so they could hire cheaper replacements and by then the series was too close to the manga and the show went from "amazing" to merely "good". But, despite all that, it's still a great show. Although, as someone who loves both Cowboy Bebop and One Piece I do wonder how anyone can dislike Cowboy Bebop.

I'm not saying One Piece is bad. Just want to make that clear.

Then what's questionable about watching hundreds of episodes of it? Not to have a go at you in particular but it's something I've noticed on other forums that's been bugging me for some time. There's this view that if an anime has more than 100 episodes there must be something wrong with it.

Setting aside you reply, the reason I can watch the mammoth amount of OP eps is because I enjoy One Piece and it's one of my favourite shows. However I've tried bebop two or three times and never got past the 7th ep because I didn't find in entertaining enough to continue. However that was a few years ago but I've got too much to watch to re-attempt it. After the Geass fiasco I'm not going to force myself to watch something if I'm put off a few eps in. Life's too short. I'm happy to listen to suggestions for stuff to watch as it's easy to miss stuff, but it needs to grab me early.

Just saw Geass R2 - 22

I was hoping so hard that they wouldn't bring back the Emperor Charles, for whatever crazy-wack reason they may come up with. This is almost as bad. However I did think Lelouch had begun to mis-play this game quite badly. There was no real need to alienate the world like he did, especially when the formidable force of Schneizel was still active, he could've won quite a few hearts by going out of his way to help Rivalz or Kallen. Also, am I to presume that Anya Alstreim was the defector from the Schneizel camp that he alluded to?

Bibly, I believe

That Lelouch is purposely trying to make the world hate him as much as possible - so he unites the world - just against him.

Think you're right there. Coz that's the only thing he could "gain" from it, and it's the only thing I could see Suzaki (whatever his name is, his bumchum).
