I think GViper is right though, technically. The pacing has been really off since Water 7. I didn't notice it so much when I was marathoning the series, but I'm sure the earlier shows had a much brisker pace. At least they didn't have 2.30 of OP, 20 seconds of introduction followed by 2 minutes of recap at the beginning of every episode...

off topic, but I hope OP chapter 513 comes out today, the wait kills me every time!

This is standard anime-catching-up fare though surely? When an anime has been running for 5 years with minimal (compared to say, Bleach or Naruto) "filler"*, the pacing is bound to be affected at some point. Not sure how it affects enjoyment of the first 250 eps though :P

*I put the term in quotes as the author contributes ideas to the "filler"

Plus, all the other voices are actually perfect. Like, I properly couldn't think of anyone better.

This. It's like the voice actors were born to play the parts. Luffy especially, knowing the voice just makes the manga better for me.

Aye. I'm watching Ranma atm and while Yamaguchi Kappei does a decent job playing male Ranma, it's nothing overly special. His Usopp on the other hand is fantastic.

I like his L too. Although I remember Zappster had to point that out to me as I didn't recognise him at first!

It's kinda funny when you hear the OP cast in other animes though, for me anyway, since I so closely associate them with those roles. Like recently in that godawful Naruto filler arc they just did, Zoro and Sanji were both in it as extra characters. Shame they didn't get a scene together! Zoro's in quite a lot of stuff though, so I probably shouldn't be surprised when I hear him! He was good in Samurai Champloo and as Harisen in Nodame Cantabile, but it sounds weird to me when I hear him in Gintama as Hijikata Toshiro.

Sort of off topic, I would quite like to hear Sanji's overdubbing of Captain Jack Sparrow in the Pirates of the Caribbean films. I think he'd be good at that. Although, I wouldn't really want to watch any of those films...

Did you all know that Chopper's VA also does the voice of pikachu?

Holy Crap. Not only did I originally not notice Yamaguchi was Ranma (I stumbled upon the fact rather then hearing the similaritys), but Luffy's seiyuu voiced Ryuunosuke in Urasei yatsura - not something I even remotely noticed. It's really annoying, voices I know well I miss the link between, voices that seem familiar are usually wrong! Unless it's Hayashibara megumi, I'll spot that voice anywhere

Oh and Luffy's seiyuu is 53! Quite an age to be playing a male in the late teens/early 20s

So I've started Baccano, and so far I'm not seeing all the fuss. The first episode was bollocks, and while the next 2 were better, it's hardly grabbed me. The music is the best thing so far (setting aside having Vash and Illopalazzo as voices). I was going to watch it in one sitting, but I'm not sure i'll bother unless it improves sharpish

edit: it has improved , but its really not very straightforward. far too much going on, none of it is in any actual order (past, current and future events all mashed into one with it not always being clear which is which), it's overly complex and quite confusing! Too many main characters (18 I saw on Mal!) doesn't help matters

I think it gets better as it goes along - the characters get funnier, the suspense greater and the plot becomes clearer and murkier in a very timely fashion. It's only 12 or 13 episodes long, right? watch a few more, maybe it'll grab you then.

You're right about the great music though!

It's not all Isaac and Miria(unfortunately) but their antics do bring some welcome silliness to the story. The first few eps do take some getting used to though. It's not till near the end that you really see how all the time jumping stories link into each other. Going through the series a second time when the dvd eps where being released made me realise just how many little things are shown in the first few eps.

The only downside to Baccano is it's now gotten a rather irritating following from LJ who proclaim it the best thing ever and then write stupid fan fiction. Such is life.

Edit: I could watch that gif all day.

just finished Bacanno. the last 4 eps were better then the 9 before it. The end was good, the beginning and the middle not so much (it doesn't start making sense until the episode with the boat, even then not much). Did it really take

Issac and Miria 70years to realise they hadn't aged?

.

Whats the story with the ova? Same story or another one?

Gintama 25.

I have no words.... -_-

Isn't amazing? The complexity of all the plans in that episode are of almost Death Note quality and it's combined into something as ridiculous as that. ;)

I take it judging how you've gone from episode 6 to episode 25 in a short time, you're enjoying yourself? ;)

ffs, I asked MAL to include an option for changing the start of the week between sunday and monday and got told "no thanks, we're mostly american". The cock. The irony is that the guy who runs MAL and gave me that reply had to fix the european date function twice the other day after I reported issues with it, so i've mentioned the fact they support european dates but are refusing a european-style option for historys. Probably nothing will happen, but having my week's totals start from 00:01 sunday morning when I count them from Monday afternoon is quite annoying

Oh hell yes! Thanks very much for the recommendation, there have been some absolute classics in there, and on top of all the comedy it even manages to have some emotionally moving episodes too, like the one where the old guy with the sunglasses tries to get a job, or the kappa episode. Great show!

Sunrise are brilliant, Gintama is pretty much Keroro Gunsou marketed at an older audience. ;)

It's a shame the fansubbers are so behind the current episodes, but oh well, can't have it all, eh.

I'm definately watching it then! I hope you aren't counting Geass in that "sunrise are brilliant" ;)

if you men gintama regarding fansubs, then it's like Gunsou in that way too. Last i looked gunsu was still at 117, whereas the japanese have had well over 200

Well, you know I like Geass; I don't think I've ever seen a Sunrise show I didn't like...

To be honest, the first three episodes of Gintama I wasn't too keen on, but after pushing on a bit it suddenly got super awesome. You'll probably like it though, it's really well crafted and has ridiculous plots like Keroro because of the whole alien invasion of edo element. I'm tearing through it faster than anything I've watched in recent memory.
