It was only something like 12GB. Mostly old-ish shows, so not in HD or anything like that. Grabbed all of School Rumble, apart from that 1 OVA that's still to come, Mushishi, Nodame Cantabile and a handful of episodes of current weekly shows.

I have noticed sizes have jumped recently. It used to be that anime would typically be 160-190mb per ep (175 seemed a typical average). Most episodes I've downloaded recently (not necessarily even recently airing shows) are more like 200-230 average. By comparison, the first fansubs I watched (Love Hina, so the files were made about 8 years old) were 50-80mb! they also weren't amazing quality as you'd expect

More like 320-350 in 720p HD.

Good times. I need more storage space.

Meh, I'm not going to fall for your tricks, isn't Popotan that program which you and Mr. Jeff reminisce about occasionally, generally concerning BEAR RAPE?

Aww man you have Mushishi to watch for the first time. So jealous! Do yourself a favour and get a hold of Kino's Journey as well. Amazing stuff.

High quality DVD rip of Gurren Lagann's final episode that I have somewhere comes in at a lovely 550MB. It's worth it though.

No, that was Green Green, a rather generic harem/ecchi series that was moderately saved by rather childishly amusing sex jokes and of course, the bear rape.

Popotan is the catalyst behind Carmen Dansen I think but is also a vile vile vile show of unadulterated fanservice and no redeeming qualities whatsoever. Absolutely nothing is enjoyable about it. It could probably be argued that the hentai meh mentioned is probably better although I seem to remember Popotan was either based or got a h-game based on it.

Nah. That's Green Green, which is aces. Popotan from what I can remember is, to use something Meh would say, a big load of shite. I haven't seen it myself for which I should probably be thankful from the sounds of it.

edit: beaten to it

Green Green isn't generic at all! Bear rape, time travel... it's got everything.

And a wicked OP.

Watching Popotan, however, is like being in hell.

In fact, I'm sure I'll be forced to watch the fucking thing for eternity if/when I go there.

Yeah, but how often do we get 720p HD eps? The only 350mb eps I've downloaded have been double eps of naruto etc

There's a fair few series that get released in 1280x720 resolution(That's 720p right? I have no freaking idea) and I'm fairly certain that Ghost Hound was aired in HD. I know Gundam 00 was.

Edit: I never said the comedy was generic, I said the harem-esque part of it was generic. Boy gets mauled by childhood friend A who clearly wants him but also get's attention from random tsundere girl B who likes boy because he did something nice for her once. Repeat till conclusion.

I'll not forget his best friend who's habit was sniffing girls while eating rice though. Ye gods, that was wierd but funny.

They are becoming more and more prevalent now. Off the top of my head I can think of Code Geass R2, Macross Frontier, Hakaba Kitarou, Toshokan Sensou, Gundam 00, Real Drive, Soul Eater and Vampire Knight.

We were talking about Angel Heart recently. Does anyone know where to find Tsukasa Hojo's other show - Cat's Eye? I remember watching the first couple of episodes when I first got broadband. No one got past the first few eps, but I know for a fact it got a R1 release last year but all I've come across are german rips

Also, despite my previous decision not to rewatch slayers 1-3, I find my self with the torrent file for a 26gb slayers collection on my computer.... The fact that a certain character was referred to in this weeks Revolution might have something to do with it (note: not the character who was actually seen in the ep, just referred to)

As far as I can remember, yes they are "proper" HD (although there are question marks over some episodes of Macross). The encoders releasing them are just as fussy. They wouldn't make HD encodes if they were just upscales.

Pretty much most shows I'm watching of this season are HD...

Code Geass, Daughter of Twenty Faces, Toshokan Sensou, Kaiba, Mahou Tsukai, Soul Eater, Nabari no Ou too apparently, but I'm not entirely convinced by the quality of the latter. I think Ghost Hound was even shown in 1080p.

This is why I'm now in desperate need of more storage space. ^_^

I found a mysterious new file on my desktop this morning, which turned out to be a screenshot from Nabari no Ou. I'm certain I didn't press the button combo for taking a screenshot in MPC, so I'm not sure what happened. But what a moment for it to happen.

You're right about Nabari no Ou. I think that's just an upscale and not proper HD. I think the proper HD files tend to be around the 300MB mark whilst the upscales can often be as low as 170MB. Something to do with the bitrate I think. I'm not very knowledgeable about the encoding side of things.

Oh joy. Animeondvd sold out recently as well and while the content is the same as ever, it's completely lost it's identity overnight. Animeondvd.com now links to the generic media site that now hosts it. I've lost all respect for it's founder because it feels like he's abandoned what he built up just to balance his checkbook

Are the various series of Initial D worth watching?

Aye, really good show - especially after you get over the slightly dodgy animation of the first season. Hajime no Ippo (a really good boxing anime) is still the daddy of all these "hobby" films I reckon with Initial D a close second followed by Hikaru no Go (based on a board game called Go, the game is interesting in it's self but the anime is suprisingly bleak in places despite it having a stupid ghost in it) and then the slightly cheesy but still pretty awesome Prince of Tennis.

Captain Tsubasa (football) could be well up there with Hajime no Ippo I reckon if I could actually find the episodes subbed and all so I don't know if you want to take a risk on that?

I for one thought the first season looked the best. It had that 'look' to it that it gradually loses throughout. It's also got the best music.

Granted I haven't seen it but if it's the equal of the manga as I hear it is, Hajime's amazing. It's worth it for Takamura.

Hikaru no Go's quite good but suffers a bit from the Death Note syndrome(since it's by the same guy) of having a bit of a weak ending as if the writer got bored of the series and wanted it to end as quick as possible. That's once again from the manga perspective though.

Youll never see Captain Tsubasa licensed and the sort of groups likely to sub a show of that age aren't reliable or regular enough for it to be worthwhile. Live-evil and Central Anime are the most likely options, but live-evil have far too many projects on the go already and are highly inconsistant with scheduling. For example it's taken 4 1/2 years for Galaxy Express 999 to reach episode 30 of 100+. Central Anime's scheduling isn't as knownyo me but their DVD version of Touch is progressing VERY slowly, and that's something they already completed with VHS rips. however it was one of the few shows suggested to them when they informely asked what show they should do next, so they are the more likely candidate.

then you know more then me! Admittedly iassumed they were VHS. The question is, what is the quality like? I was going to watch the DVD versions but Im not sure I want to wait several weeks between releases. Saying that, I was only going to do the torrent files for use at a later date so Ill leave it a few weeks and see if the releases pickup. I'm watching their Yamato releases atm anyway (which are DVD rips)

I started watching Angel Heart a few years ago when the subs were more regular and that got me interested in its predecessor, which I've managed to acquire too. I also decided to wait for the series to be completely subbed before finishing off the rest of it so I'm stalled somewhere around episode 21.

good news! Ani-Kraze released the final ep on Friday. No batch torrent for the last 12 eps though :)
