Is this a new series? (or another warmed up rehash of existing episodes)

I don't really do anime these days, but I remember loving the three Slayers series back in the day.

As posted already it is all new*, but the last 10 years haven't hurt it at all - it's as if it never went away. It's still as mental, over the top and just plain crazy as it ever was.

DORAGON SLAAAAAAAAAAVVVVVVVVEEEEEEEEEEEEUUUUUUUU :rolleyes::lol::wub:

*I've no idea if it's based on existing manga or light novels, but there is a new manga running side by side. No idea if it's different or not, I've not started it yet

Surely they are all just ripping the exact same thing?

You'd imagine so but the video quality varies a lot, the first version of episode 1 even had a great 10 second audio delay for the second half. There's even a delightful group that has 2.2GB releases for each episode.

Still, I have the mp3 of the full op so that'll last me until I find out.

They are. Those 2.2 GB .ts files are afaik component captures of the HD version off of the PSN. I imagine all the other 720p eps that have been popping up since will have been simply encodes of those files. That's what pretty much all of the anime encodes out there are like now. Just encodes of huge ass raw .ts files. The only difference here being that the "raw" source file has hardcoded english subs with it. Someone just needs to do the encodes with as little audio sync failure as possible. I can't believe how offputting it can be. I tried watching one of the very first rips but stopped because of that. I'm going to have to try out one of these newer ones. I have them all and I've been dying to watch the show. Guess I'll report back on which seems to have the least problems.

edit: there's another one now claiming to not suffer from these problems

Hmm, there appears to be a torrent out for School Rumble 3rd term OVA ep 25 - is it incorrectly labelled or just a fake?

EDIT: hang on, apparently it's just weird. Although no confirmation has been made for a third proper series - the omakes relate to the third series... so will be numbered 25 and 26. Weird. I would have thought they would have taken place between the second and third series, not after...

On this note, anyone got any recommendations for fansubbers for this?

It was amazing, again. 2 episodes left, nooo!

THe wait is going to suuuuuuuck. I really look forward to watching them all together once the series is over so I can understand properly what the hell has been going on.

Also I only just realised today that Neiro seems to be wearing something that looks suspiciously like a diaper.

Maybe Tekkon Kinkreet for an unusual story and art style? Not quite as out there but it certainly has its own look, it's a film, rather than a series though....

I'd recommend taking a look at Masaaki Yuasa's past work. There tends to be an element of weirdness/quirkiness, if only usually in the art style and animation, rather than the story content. I don't think I've seen anything quite as weird as Kaiba though. Straight off the top of my head I'd say check out Kemonozume, it's from basically the same team that are doing Kaiba. Same sort of length as well. Other stuff to look at is, Studio 4oC's output but I don't think they've done any full shows, it's usually been limited to movies and/or OVAs

But yeah, Kemonozume would probably be the closest thing that I can think of. It's a lot more straightforward though.

Kaiba is really refreshing, i've been watching each episode twice just so I can spot little touches going on in the background.

Could anyone recommend other series similar to this?

Taimanin Asagi.

FFS, why do they always do this with the subs for Macross Plus? "OH LOOK THERE'S SINGING AND TALKING AT THE SAME TIME... LET'S SUB BOTH OF THEM AND SHOW THEM RIGHT ON TOP OF EACH OTHER SO YOU CAN'T ACTUALLY READ ANY OF THE FUCKING DIALOGUE! WE ROCK!"

There must be a way to separate the two... surely?

Using VLC and soft subs (mkv?)?

Apprently VLC is shit for that (they should be seperate lines but get overlapped), I had the same issue with a couple of things (but oddly not with other stuff ripped from dvd in the same format).

So I just watched Paprika on Blu-Ray. It's very.....er very umm... I'm not really sure how to summarise it. It's very Satoshi Kun :D The timing of me watching it was interesting, as not only does it share a seiyuu for both of it's lead female role with Slayers Revolution (the delightful Hayashibara Megumi <_<), but the cop whose name I forget voices Wiser in the same show.

Speaking of Paprika... I think I'll watch that tonight.

Definitely the sex scenes.

p.s. I'm not googling anything meh recommends for fear of permanent retinal damage.

You'll love Popotan, Imp. Go on, take a peek.

What would you suggest using?

Google CCCP.

DO NOT USE VLC FOR ANIME EVA EVA EVA.

Debatable. I've watched shedloads of anime with vlc and not had any issues. Once you've tweaked it just right (auto select subs for example) it works a treat. It's just that its softsubs could do with some improvement, but it depends on the file. Most are fine

I tried using VLC to watch anime once.

Bad framerate, the subtitles were sprawled across the screen, I could only read half of the badly pixelated sentence.

Then I got CCCP and windows media play classic and lived happily forever more.
