Is Macross Frontier really worth following then? Considering I haven't seen any other representatives of the series, and all I'm following at the moment is Geass and Kurenai.

It's worth it for the mech action when it appears (like ep 7). The show would be vastly improved if Sheryl was accidentily-hit-by-a-brick-in-the-face-till-dead for being such a nonsensical bint but that's just my opinion. Other that it's a nice mix of j-tracks, drama and explosions.

It's a bit sad the the only 2 episodes I'm most desperate for are the dvd specials of Wolf and Spice and Baccano. Still, maybe autumn holds some hope.

Just polished off the whole series of Baccano today, after intending to watch about 4 episodes. Really enjoyed that. Funny and quite brutal in places. I'm sure I'll manage to get the first two OVAs in before bed too. Not long until the last one should be out there.

And Jacuzzi Splot. Sounds like someone has been up to something nasty in a fancy bath.

It's pretty standalone and it's very straight-laced compared to the last few Macross entries.

'Straight-laced' isn't necessarily how I want to hear the anime I'm watching described .

Thanks for the responses though guys. I'll probably look into it once I'm back from uni (have to actually do my exams before then too... curses).

You just can't beat Isaac and Miria.

I meant compared to the newer iterations of the series, as Macross 7 and Zero are an acquired taste for some. Frontier is more like the original series but on steroids.

Drunken post? Me? No no no. What's Aria?

It's a lovely slice of life series that gives you that sort of warm and fuzzy feeling inside (that you kind of described earlier). One of the best for me and a real personal favourite. I'm always hesistant to recommend it unless I know someone is going to like it because seeing someone say it's shit is soul destroying (slight exaggeration). It really does bring out the fanboy in me and for me personally it's top 10 material. It's about a group of gondoliers, some of which are starting out with their respective companies, and the situations they encounter. It has a very romanticized look on life within that world (what anime doesn't?), is slow paced(probably the main reason people don't get on with it), with no real overarcing story thread to it (beyond their careers), has some lovely music & voice acting, and some very lovable characters.

Without wanting to sound like a prententious cock, I never really mentioned it here because I didn't think it'd be the kind of thing that most rllmuk folk were into and thought it'd be ripe for Meh-style "It's shit!" posts, which as mentioned would slowly be killing me inside. Give it a go if you like that kind of thing (which you do seem to). But I take no respnsibility if it all goes awry ;)

edit: damn, beaten to it.

I think Macross Frontier has been mostly awesome, despite some properly ridiculous bits. Still full of awesome FUCK YEAH when it really matters, which is nice and they make up for the Sheryl bits. The CGI grates at times, especially when it's showing action that's just silly, but then it always does when mixed with the trad cel look.

I need an uplifting anime to watch, any suggestions?

Something cheerful? Hmm. Ouran perhaps? You could possibly try Sketchbook but it's fairly slow-paced slice of life with no major plot revelations so I dunno if it's something you'd like. Baccano's quite fun although some of the more brutal scenes in it I wouldn't call cheerful. Struggling to think of a series that's cheerful all the way through other than Azumanga.

Daughter of 20 Faces needs more hype.

Shit really hit the fan in episode 6 with a death count worthy of some Gundam series

Was fairly death heavy but as was pointed out to me, the opening gives away a lot of hints to it especially with the lyrics.

The only thing I didn't like about it was

I didn't really get the other girl's motive. She just kinda randomly appeared with Tiger man wanting to kill Chiko for some reason I missed.

I think she just thought Chiko was full of it, or she was jealous or something. I loved her higurashi smile at the end of episode 5 though. I thought the biggest clue to the death-fest was the ED myself...

Piro: A happy series is WAAAAAN PEEEEEESU! or, Keroro Gunsou. Or just watch the Girl Who Leapt Through time again.

Ouran was awesome, and fabulous. Second season fucking when  I'm looking for something uplifting but not a comedy/slice of life.

Oh god! Watch it! Now! If you managed to read the whole of this message you're not watching it fast enough. Seriously, go.

This. Go do it now.

Uplifting but not comedy/slice of life. Trying to make it harder? Hrm. Haibane Renmei maybe. It's not exactly cheerful al the way through but the ending I seem to remember left me feeling relatively happy.
