Yeah, MPlayer is infinitely superior for softsubs on macs. Well, if you get the right version; it's completely user unfriendly unless you get the custom build which two lovely people on animesuki have made (not hard to find). Even with this version, you'll have to press 'j' each time you load a file for the subs to appear, but it's a minor inconvenience for having proper font and timing support. Also, there's no way to skip forward or backwards in full screen mode, which is another irritation, but I'd really recommend it since it's much less hassle than VLC which you need to adjust font size and select the type each time. At least MPlayer is a much more stable program and doesn't ever interrupt videos with error messages.
Just because VLC has a wider range of options doesn't mean you can't use another player in addition as those above have mentioned. I do like VLC for its incredible versatility, but for some subs it's just not very good, mixing up lines as you say. Try one of the aforementioned ones. You can always switch between players depending on what exactly you're watching.

I'll give it a go at some point. It's more of an issue with fansubs then dvdrips. Pressing a solitary key isn't an issue, even though I have VLC set to load the first subtitle automatically, sometimes something will need a different sub track and I have to go into the menu. Also I have error reporting turned off :o

did you not even lol

at Kallen's (not KAREN's - there's really no excuse for this name - they can spell Gloucester but not Karen...) uh.. yeah. Kallen's overpowered Guren Mk II? I thought the air docking stuff was hilarious. Its power is definitely well over 9000 and all that.

Not especially. I spent most of that last part skimming since it basically consisted of

"Hey, we have overpowered Mechs!" "Oh shit! No wait, no we have an overpowered mech!" "Oh noez! Looks like Team Guilford's blasting off agaaaaaaaiiiiiiiiiiiinnnnnnnn." It'd be funny if it was deliberately funny but they were trying to be serious. :( Zero's side need's to get some new mechs/pilots soon. 1 pink haired chick and her tight fitting costume is all very well but she's still outnumbered.

Also, did you take note of another Higurashi VA appearing in the ep? ;)

Yeah, do you think it was deliberate they were talking to each other?

As to the pilots, I'm hoping Rolo might turn out okay if he's a new Black Knight pilot, but yeah, some new blood would be nice. Or Todou could get a new Mech and live up to his reputation. I want to know what happened to the Gawain. That was bad ass!

I wonder about all the Arthurian names though; Modred betrays Arthur in the stories and stages his own rebellion, so I think there's a small chance something similar may happen, but I really doubt it. I reckon if there is going to be an Arthur mech, it'll be the knight of one's or Curly's.

I also wonder about Curly destroying the gods. That sounds much more difficult than Lelouch's contract.

EDIT: I noticed that SHS & FoSu have subbed sword of the stranger (big file though, almost 2 gigs). Are Ureshii still down to sub this or should I buckle and get this version?

They and Yoroshiku should still be down for it. It's up to you if you want to wait though. I think they're planning an SD and HD release at the same time (but don't hold me to that).

As for Code Geass ep 6 I thought that was a standard episode. That is to say I enjoyed it about as much as usual. For me it got better past the first minute. Certainly more exciting anyway. Different strokes and all that... Although I do remember laughing at that particular scene in the episode. I just think with Geass I expect the ridiculous and the over the top. If it's not there I'm usually disappointed.

Cheers. I'm pretty much with you on the Geass issue. It's just a lot of ridiculous fun!

Hey guys, remember when those crazy funsters over at Bandai Visual USA expected you to pay $40 for a 2-episode DVD without any extras whatsoever? Oh man, was that ever a barrel of laffs and a half! But apparently, they were completely shocked that these series - Super Robot Wars OG, Galaxy Angel Rune, Freedom Project - just weren't selling. So much so that there were some big and sudden corporate shake-ups over there not too long ago.

Well, guess what, guys! Much like Gonzo has done with Tower of Druaga and Blassreiter, Bandai Visual is beginning to stream subtitled versions many of their currently licensed series online. Shoujo-styled man-harem series Haruka: Beyond the Stream of Time has had its first episode up and running on the dot-anime website for a little while now. Not too long ago the first episode of the mech-tacular Super Robot Wars OG: Divine Wars (based on the Super Robot Taisen videogame released stateside by Atlus) went up as well. More episodes are planned for webcasting soon, as well as additional series (Galaxy Angel Rune looks like it'll be appearing shortly, and both true tears and Shigofumi have been mentioned by BV as prime candidates for streaming in the past.) Episodes will be available for 3 months after they first appear on the site, so don't procrastinate too long!

regarding my earlier softsub issue with vlc. Rather then piss about with mplayer itself, I'm going to try the OSX port of XBMC, which uses mplayer.dll as the basis for its media playback. It will also support most of my required functions (auto 16:9 stretch and auto language/sub selection being the obvious ones). Much easier to control with simply an apple remote too, and designed to work on a tv from a distance - which means no more trying to use a wireless kb/trackpad from my bed

Mr Jeff, are you enjoying legend of galatic Heroes? I'm assuming you are because you're going through it at quite the pace, but I don't think I've seen you mention it here. I spotted it a couple of days before you started watching it, but was more interested in downloading the group's version of Space Battleship Yamato.

It's awesome stuff. Animation looks a bit dated and I was a bit wary of it at first since the main leads look a bit too bishie from the screencaps but it's top notch story-wise. Lots of political and strategy orientated plot which keeps things interesting. 21 gig is a fair whack though so it's taking me a bit of time to get the series but if it keeps it interesting for 110 episodes I'll be happy. It's only taken 54 episodes for the two main leads to meet each other face to face. :P

Blimey. I'm surprised you've managed so much in so quick a time considering you have about 30shows on the go ^_^

Well most of them I try and watch as they appear so this gives me time to watch LotGH although I am actually behind on about 7 series. :P I should really stop downloading new series if I'm honest since it just discourages me from watching my backlog of stuff.

I've put a stop to downloading any new episodes at all apart from a torrent thats going really slow (lack of seeders). I'll tidy up Trigun and Gunbuster1 this weekend, and that will still leave me with well over 200eps on my hd, and about 16 movies (although 70eps of that are from the second series of lupin III and aren't for watching yet). I've definately got enough for the next 4 weeks

That's my main problem at the moment. I'll download anything and everything and basically hoard it. The end result is that I have somewhere in the region of 1TB of the stuff stored away waiting to be watched. It also doesn't help that I've started branching out more into US and UK TV shows on top. The other problem is there's no form of quality control. I bet a lot of the stuff I have is terrible but I'll most likely watch it anyway simply because it's available and "free".

I'm going to make a concerted effort to work through it after my exams though. Starting off with the more recent shows that I've not watched yet (stuff like Shana season 2, Higurashi season 2, Hayate, etc...) and then moving on to the older stuff (like Lupin III, LoGH, Ideon, Macross, etc...). I honestly think I've got enough to last me months and months.

Yep. Already on it. http://myanimelist.net/animelist/Zappster is my list at any rate. It's helped me a great deal actually. Just in getting things listed. The next step is to organize everything. I've got so many spindles and whatnot that I've forgotten which series is where. So even if I wanted to watch something it'd take me a while just to find where I last left it. :P I need to see someone about this. I'm not right in the head I tells ya.

See, this is why I have a 750gb drive attached to the network ^_^ My anime folder is 105gb (including dvd isos), and I delete things as I finish with them, so thats just the stuff I have to watch. It's all in one place (aside from stuff still downloading and recently completed downloads) so I know exactly what I have and don't have. And thanks to MAL I no longer lose all track of where I am if I accidentally delete the wrong folder :P (seriously before MAL that happened at least 3 times)

You never finished watching Lucky Star? The last couple of episodes are good...

EDIT: Oh - I've watched the first three episodes of Mnemosyne - I like it. It's pretty cool, except the OP & ED - It's Death Note all over again...
