I was thinking the same. My guess is that they mean that C^2 but rather than saying squared they say two? :)

It's been bugging me for so long. I thought the same once, but I want to know if they ever properly explained it!

Because it's two C's. NEXT!

Why do they insist on spelling 'Guildford' as 'Guilford'?

Poor research, Sunrise. Poor show.

Also: Did those Code Geass DVD Magazines ever get subbed? They looked like fun.

Japanese people never get English words right. Even worse are Wapanese fucktards who insist on using hilariously wrong spellings of words with an actual correct English spelling. I actually saw someome talking about Code Geass mechs spelling 'Glasgow' as 'Gurasgo'. Just fuck off.

Haha, that's pretty awful.

Sunrise have actually done a reasonable job though, they're more accurate than I expect from a usual anime anyway .. I'm actually quite grateful they don't spell 'Guilford' as 'gilford'

Given the fact that Japanese/Chinese have less phonemes than Western languages, it's no surprise that they change the spelling of our words into something which they can pronounce.

That's also the reason why native Asians have trouble speaking Western languages. Must suck for them, the Thai girls who were studying Dutch with my had a torrid time when it came to speaking..

If they were to try and say it as it was meant to be spelt, it'd be "Guildoford" which would sound frankly stupid so I'm happy they forget the letter d exists in there. If in doubt, stick a vowel on. Unless it's an n. Occasionally. :D

Speaking of geass, the dub's out somewhere. Not that I've listened to it.

They should teaching silent letters in school. Surely people would love learning about them since they conceal their presence, like ninjas. Bam, Naruto tie-in for school text books and everyone speaks perfect Eigo.

I never got why they decided to spell "Nanali" "Nunally"

THERE IS NO 'NUN', ONLY A 'NAN' WHEN THEY SAY IT

...and why is the gg torrent for 06 so slow

Learn to IRC my friend. Well, cheer up there's quite a bit of complete ridiculousness/greatness in store for you when you're done.

Lolipower takes a real hammering whenever Geass is out though! I couldn't believe how quickly the download counter for Geass was increasing!

EDIT: the site is pretty amazing though. Super fast DDLs for loads of series, recent releases and even doramas!

and write in katakana :D I doubt most english words are written in roman characters in scripts.

In another news, as I've almost finished reading Trigun Maximum I've started rewatching Trigun. Given the fact that the manga was monthly and only finished last year and the anime being 10years old, it progresses a heck of a lot differently. In the first 4 eps, only one episode has a basis from the manga, and even then the episode is 90% different material. I think a solitary character and is the only part from the manga, and has a completely different story. Later I remember it being more like the first couple of manga volumes, but I know the end is very different as the manga was still in an early form. Out of 17 volumes of Trigun and Trigun Maximum, only the 3 vols* of Trigun were released at the time

*1st print run. the second run and english versions are 2 larger vols,

So am I the only one who doesn't really care if an episode is low on action and big on talk?

I don't mind if it's interesting and worth watching. If the talk is meaningless drivel, then it's a different matter. I've no problem with story and exposition but I know others don't always like big battles with minimal plot development

I don't mind talking as long as it's in keeping with the show. Mushishi was pretty much talk and it was great but with something like Macross which has big stompy robots with big guns then action is where it's at.

Watching a couple of bits of Gunbuster now. First anime directed by Hideaki Anno fact fans! Gainax Bounce ftw!

Regarding mkv and softsubs, I have two issues with them. Firstly I've had a lot of timing clashes recently. Basically if two lines of dialogue are being spoken at the same time (and so need to be subbed at the same time) or if there is a sign being translated as the same time as dialogue is subbed, the subs are placed in the same space and are unreadable due to merging into gibberish. Secondly font size can vary randomly. In 25mins of Gunbuster, the sub size changed 3 or 4 times. It's possible this may be an issue with VLC, but only some files do this while others are fine. Before people suggest i try another player, please consider I am on a mac and I don't know of any decent alternatives. Certainly nothing with the range of options VLC has

Nope. I'm the same really. And it doesn't even have to be a different type of series e.g. I enjoyed episode 5 of Macross. I haven't seen episode 6 yet though so who knows what I'll think.

It is a problem with VLC. Unless they've changed things in the most recent version it is known to have some massive problems displaying softsubs. As far as I know there is another playback solution which is supposed to be pretty good for Macs, which is Mplayer. I have no idea if it has the range of options that VLC does though. Too busy at the moment to check up on that.

Yeah, MPlayer is infinitely superior for softsubs on macs. Well, if you get the right version; it's completely user unfriendly unless you get the custom build which two lovely people on animesuki have made (not hard to find). Even with this version, you'll have to press 'j' each time you load a file for the subs to appear, but it's a minor inconvenience for having proper font and timing support. Also, there's no way to skip forward or backwards in full screen mode, which is another irritation, but I'd really recommend it since it's much less hassle than VLC which you need to adjust font size and select the type each time. At least MPlayer is a much more stable program and doesn't ever interrupt videos with error messages.

Just because VLC has a wider range of options doesn't mean you can't use another player in addition as those above have mentioned. I do like VLC for its incredible versatility, but for some subs it's just not very good, mixing up lines as you say. Try one of the aforementioned ones. You can always switch between players depending on what exactly you're watching.

MPC for some reason makes all blacks grey as fuck on my PC. :o

Try using a different output filter. Its in options somewhere

I think I used the haali one to get proper blacks

Not at home can't check though

It's odd - the Haali one does work with everything I throw at it... but all the Wire episodes I had came out grey as hell.

(I also have the same problem with quicktime. just started happening randomly...)

I seem to recall I had a similar issue with greyness... and I cannot for the life of me remember how I fixed it. I remember I used to manually alter the video settings to brighten every video, altering the contrast as well too...

Try fullscreening and then undoing it. Or skipping to the end of the file and letting it restart again.

Geass was boring this week except for perhaps the first minute. Next week looks set to be

an emo-fest with Lelouch bawwing about his sister. Ho-hum.

did you not even lol

at Kallen's (not KAREN's - there's really no excuse for this name - they can spell Gloucester but not Karen...) uh.. yeah. Kallen's overpowered Guren Mk II? I thought the air docking stuff was hilarious. Its power is definitely well over 9000 and all that.

EDIT: Soul Eater 5 was really good though. I really enjoyed it. :o
