You just know he's going to SCREW EVERYTHING UP

It's not that he'll screw things up, it's just that he'll be there with all his smugness and ridiculously hypocritical ideas and generally just being the utter cunt that he is.

Shinn Asuka or Shinji never annoyed me this much.

Just read this on myanimelist

According to the Nikkei Economy Newspaper April 27th, Bandai Vidual announced a new sales policy: they will release anime Blue-ray Discs (BD) simultaneously in Japan, US, Europe and Asia from this fall. The contents of the BD are the identical in all the countries and have subtitles at least in English and French. The prices are also fixed the same everywhere. Accompanying with the BD sales, they will start a downloading service to sell anime titles online.

I finally got Evangelion! If it was yesterday I could ahve watched it on my 37", but now I'll have to settle for my iPhone. Just converting it to mp4, then I'll throw the subs into the file. Hopefully

For some reason its not on any of the anime groups on usenet. I ended up finding it in a divx group via a google and a nzb

I've not seen the Shippuden movie, but it's not as if it's actually canon and it was never going to be amazing. Such movies usually aren't. As for the series itself people need to either stop watching when they bitch so much, or just stop bitching. Thats not aimed at anyone in particular and applys to other shows too, but some people do seem to look for things to take issue with rather then sit back and take it for what it is

Rebuild of Evangelion 1.0 on the other hand was fantastic. The picture is superb, and the audio just as good. I'd say that visually it's the most impressive anime I've seen. I did note a few things that have been changed. The first 20mins are pretty much shot for shot identical in content to the 1st ep of the tv series. Thats to be expected, theres very little to cut from it (although I'd have liked to see the Manga version of the opening act*). Take away a couple of minutes of new content, some of which replaces parts they cut out and a few things caught my attention that differ from the original.

*

Where Rei pilots Unit 01 to hold off Sachiel while Misato picks up Shinji

Minor spoiler changes

The angels are renumbered again. Sachiel is the 4th for whatever reason, and it continues from there. It should be noted that the manga simply cut a few out so the total number of angels was lower and the later ones have lower numbers then they did originally.

Originally, when Shinji goes AWOL from Nerv, he stumbles across a "camp" where Aida is "playing war" and Nerv Security "retrieve" him. In Rebuild, Shinji is just walking aimlessly around Tokyo-2/3 and decides to head back home just as Nerv Security turn up and "retrieve him"

During the battle with the 4th angel, Shinji originally lets Aida and Suzuhara into the entry plug by his own decision, and Misato gets pissed with him. In rebuild she tells him to let them in.

Due to the removal of the scenes where they examine the ruins of the 4th angel, the Unit 00 activation flashback was moved to a different part of the story.

Due to new content, Ritsuko is revelead to want shinji to give Rei her ID card in order to facilitate communication between the two. In the tv show it's more a matter of convenience to give her the card at school or on the way to Nerv

Parts of the Battle with Ramiel (the 6th angel in rebuild, 5th in tv) are different both in the original encounter and during Operation yashima. Ramiel is also animated very differently

Major spoiler changes

Before Shinji gets ready for Operation Yashima, Misato takes him down to Terminal Dogma and shows him Lillith, which she refers to by name and tells Shinji that an Angel reaching it will cause the third impact. In the tv show, Kaji shows Misato and Shinji, and Misato believes it is Adam. This also happens, much much later in the timeline then in Rebuild. Lillith is also without the Seele mask (the one with seven eyes) but is already impaled with the lance of longinous, which originally is retrived from the antarctic by a fleet of ships and Unit 02 in ep 8 (Asuka Strikes).

Kaworu/Kaoru is introduced at the end of Rebuild on the moon, shown with what looks like Lilith. This may go some way to explaining the reordering of the angels, perhaps identifying this "other" lilith as some form of comparable being and the 3rd angel.

That's kinda why I watched it though, I've already given up on the series but liked the older movies for their higher production costs and thought i'd give this one a go. The problem is it just comes off as a filler arc with a reused story...

As for Evangelion, it was pretty cool, I want the new revoltech figures now :D

Shinji and Shinn annoyed me more! Why? Shinji and Shinn were RUBBISH and sat around all day crying and whinging. Suzaku on the other hand (the annoying twat) is annoying because he's a bit of cuntish character, but at least he can whoop people.

Actually... I think that might make him more annoying. :D

No way did Shin just sit around crying all day! He wrecked up shit all over the place, and single handedly raped the fuck out of the Freedom before the director went all Mary Sue on the ending.

He raped Freedom when Whatshisface, the other whiny tit, was trying his best NOT to fight back. Hardly something to praise him for, "he brought a gun to a fist fight and won, teh l33t pwnage". Everyone knew that as soon as Kira or Athrun really wanted to scrap, they'd have completely whooped that whiny little twat within seconds.

"Dude, did you see me and my buddies completely destroy Athrun when he was on his own trying to protect some silly girl in a one armed standard pappy mobile suit? Man, I rawk" :(

Correction, what he actually said was:

"STELLAR!STELLAR!STELLAR!STELLAR!STELLAR! lol freedom deaded STELLAR!STELLAR!STELLAR!STELLAR!STELLAR! lol athrun deaded STELLAR!STELLAR!STELLAR!STELLAR!STELLAR! oh I lost STELLAR!STELLAR!"

Okay it's been a while into the new season now, and although I still haven't seen a couple of shows I want to, here are those that I give my official seal of awesomeness to:

Nijuu Mensou no Musume - Probably my pick of the crop. I love the art and it's got that sort of Death Note/Geass feel to it when crazy plans are acted out and then explained. The plans have been pretty realistic so far, which is cool. For some reason I'm a total sucker for period stuff.

Toshokan Sensou - The setting is kinda goofy, but it's a fun show, with some lovely character art. The main character (sorry, can't remember her name yet) reminds me a lot of Ai Tanabe from Planetes for some reason. Probably just the short hair and tomboy clothes.

Nabari no Ou - I have a feeling things are about to get super awesome. My favourite OP song of the season.

Geass R2 - Just as good as the original, if not better as an episode by episode show. I guess we'll have to see how it compares over all.

I'm looking forward to more Soul Eater now that the prologue has finished...

Hey, if my girlfriend got offed by a Jesus wannabe in plot armour, I'd go fucking nuts too.

Geass was pretty damn good.

Glad the Chinese general guy wasn't fighting them this episode, I still hope they don't end up as enemies :(

Also, with this episode has Lelouch surpass Light? Rollo wasn't as annoying as I thought he would be, or maybe the anger he would cause is being overshadowed by Suzaku. Looks to be interesting Suzaku coming back to school.

I loved the surfing Lelouch, and Ougi surviving made me happy

The surfing was pretty good indeed.

Eunuch was totally gay for zero like everyone else appears to be.

Another trusty Jeff Prediciton™; Series will finally end in the same way as SEED Destiny did, Lelouch will manage to get rid of the Emperor at least but in the end will be killed by Rolo who'll be all crying and emo and stuff.

Shame about the ending of the episode though; it was all going so well then they showed Suzaku coming back to school and I started getting angry. :)

Well, we the latter was always likely to happen anyway, he was always going to get involved.

Pretty similar to what I've got. Except I haven't seen Nabari No Ou or Nijuu Mensou No Musume yet. I'd also add that I'm absolutely smitten with Toshokan Sensou. Kasahara does have that Tanabe thing going on but I don't know if her and Dojo will ever be as good as Tanabe-Hachi :)

I'd also say add Kaiba, Macross Frontier and Kurenai to that list.

Is that anime season in the cinemas, on tv or what? We've defined what the NFT is, but are a bit thin on the details...?

NFT aka BFI Southbank

The NFT has three main cinema screens and does seasons of films highlighting a particular theme/director/country and shows a massive range of films going back to the very first silent films all the way up to contemporary releases. I joined a few years ago when they did a two month long Kurosawa season, and though I don't go that frequently every so often they show some brilliant films that are hard to source or unpopular with other cinemas. This information will be of little use to anyone living outside of London and/or yarr'ers.

Macross Zero is getting a release in August.

:)

Except I don't own a Blu-Ray player.

And on a completely different note, is the Genshiken manga any good?

I've still not checked out Kurenai, or Macross Frontier, I was thinking of doing so after my finals are over ...in a month (wah!) What's a good place to start with Macross? I've never watched any but I hear good things about it.

I'm still not completely convinced by Kaiba, the plot got pretty interesting in the latter half of the second episode, but it feels a bit of a slog to get through because of the pacing. I do love the art though.

Speaking of great art, I watched Tekkonkinkreet in proper HD the other evening and it completely blew me away. I think I'm going to have to read the omnibus manga when it comes out this summer. Have Studio 4degreesC done anything else as good?

I would suggest looking for Super Dimension Fortress Macross which started it all. You'd have to resort to either importing the dvds (I think ADV has the license now) or downloading it. If thats a problem, Macross Plus all the way, even though it's nothing like SDF Macross! Oh, and Macross:Do You Remember Love is a summary of SDF Macross tv show in movie form, but I've not seen that

Mind Game. Get it now and watch immediately, though your brain might promptly melt (in a good way).

I wouldn't know really. I've been watching Macross Frontier without any prior Macross knowledge or viewing experience and I don't think I've missed out on anything aside from one or two nods to the older Macross shows. I'm planning to watch a few of them in the summer though... From the very beginning

Ah, I've not watched the second episode of Kaiba yet. Perhaps I was a bit premature in adding it to my list of awesomeness :) . But I am expecting good things from the series.

Kaiba's good but it's very...odd. Took me a while yesterday to get to grips on what the heck was happening in the second ep although by the end I managed to understand what had happened. It's still interesting to see where it's going though.

I'm pretty sure it'll be awesome one the plot gets going a bit; they've created a really wonderful world and I think it'll be a joy watching it explored, I just thought it was a tad early to give it a rubber stamp of approval. I should probably add that I watched it this morning and I had a six hour exam yesterday, so I didn't really have much capacity for concentration!

I've been watching Kurenai (only show I'm following at the moment except Geass) and I must say I do enjoy it quite a bit. Some bits have more of a dialogue-y element which is kind of unusual, although that's not to say there isn't a fair bit of action et cetera.
