I might be biased, but that's more to do with the philosophy of the encoders, although that's not always the case. Some encoders like to retain the detail in scenes and this often means leaving it blurrier which might make it seem lower quality. Whereas others like to make judicious use of filters that sharpen the image but at the same time kill some of these background details. This goes back to some of that stuff in the DB letter. I have no qualms with saying that I reckon the encoder of the Aone-Gekkostate-Menclave files could just as easily produce an encode with similar "quality" to Gattai's if he desired.

Again it's the same with viewers, some prefer the sharpening approach where others prefer the keeping as many details in the encode as possible approach. Just pick whichever one suits you. For myself, I generally don't have the picture quality that high up my list of things to look for in a release. As long as it's of a decent quality of course. And as I've already said I'm biased so I know which ones I'll be keeping. I generally leave the picture quality arguments for the dvd/bluray rips as I've no doubt Macross will be getting that treatment eventually.

It should be noted that AVCHD rips of Blu-Ray anime (movies only so far) are finding their way onto newsgroups at the moment. About 3.5gb for 720p and 6.5gb for 1080p seem to be average numbers. At the moment it's older stuff (Akira, Perfect Blue, Patlabor series) but this is more due to whats actually available. Macross Zero is getting a release in August.

I just noticed Full metal Panic is getting a BD boxset, so I might put off my rewatch to see if some kind soul rips that £200! boxset for me

Just watched Eva 1.0 with super laggy subtitles (taken from the cam vid). They did a great job of compressing the first few episodes into a film.

The angel screaming at the end when it got shot sounded familiar, where have I heard that before? Either way I thought that particular part was AWESOME

Just so you know, I'm predicting Ranka's death by the end of series. I don't know why, I just think they will.

Also, for those that went with sub file + raw for the eva movie, which subfile did you use? The NF one? The combined file on TT is ridiculously shit since there's 0 seeders on the damn thing.

Geass was AMAZE!

I can't wait until Rolo get's stabbed in the back, it's going to be so awesome. Also, I was quite happy to see Viletta breathe a sigh of relief when she saw Ogi was safe. :)

And that annoying Eunuch guy died. HELL YES!

AND Suzaku's coming back to school.

Geass was pretty damn good.

Glad the Chinese general guy wasn't fighting them this episode, I still hope they don't end up as enemies :wub:

Also, with this episode has Lelouch surpass Light? Rollo wasn't as annoying as I thought he would be, or maybe the anger he would cause is being overshadowed by Suzaku. Looks to be interesting Suzaku coming back to school.

I loved the surfing Lelouch, and Ougi surviving made me happy :)

I'm cutting right through these. 22episodes today, and thats with doing other things. I'm removing Haruhi as im going to rent the dvds, and I'll choose some more shows to tick in there

How the hell can you watch all of that

My anime viewing has increased noticably over the last couple of months, even though I've wasted quite a few chances to get some viewing in. Today I'm getting a few in as I'm working nights this week so will be up most of the night. By no means am I expecting to get through all those quickly, theres about 90eps there! It will take me 3 or 4 days to finish Genshiken for a start (assuming I watch an hour a day after work). It also helps that urusei yatsura doesn't require my entire attention, so I can happily post here while watching it - not something I can do with most anime.

Ways I've found time to watch more:

When working nights, I can watch 3 or 4 episodes easily after catching up on the forum. I jump into bed and watch until I'm to tired or until I decide it's time to sleep.

When working days or on weekends I do the same, but I'm likely to not watch as much as I'll leave it longer before sleeping.

If I wake up early and don't feel like or simply can't sleep more, I'll watch stuff until it's time to get up or I feel tired again.

Watch a few eps if I'm bored

It really adds up in the end. Mac Mini + craploads of anime on hd + big ass tv in bedroom + wireless keyboard =WIN.

Actually I'll probably end up watching half of Genshiken tonight :lol:

Eunuch was totally gay for zero like everyone else appears to be.

Another trusty Jeff Prediciton™; Series will finally end in the same way as SEED Destiny did, Lelouch will manage to get rid of the Emperor at least but in the end will be killed by Rolo who'll be all crying and emo and stuff.

Shame about the ending of the episode though; it was all going so well then they showed Suzaku coming back to school and I started getting angry. :blink:
