I watched with the softsub that was timed to the [q-r] raw. It might be the same sub as the idpro one (I'm not sure) just synced to the [q-r] raw, and you can't go wrong with that. They're not the best subs but perfectly serviceable. Alternatively I've found out that ureshii and yoroshiku are apparently doing a joint on it and releasing in HD flavours too (the one on tosho is a dvd rip so you might want to wait for the blu-ray rips).

Ah, cool. I'll probably wait (the year or so!) for the Ureshii version. I'll definitely keep an eye out for it. Cheers!

You all need to go and watch Sword of the stranger. BONES' latest movie production. Fantastic visuals and animation, lovely musical score and some good old fashioned bloodshed.

This. Just finished watching and it's a great film. Some utterly amazing fights in there and animated amazingly well. Music really adds to it. Can't wait to see it again when it's done in HD/Blu-ray.

Ouch. I was going to say if it was just the BT concern that there are a few decent direct download sites that can be used. Free ones at that.

It's not too bad, I'm back home every weekend, so if there's an episode that was ace, I just download it so I can watch it in the proper quality.

I fucking love Dattebayo. Not only are they pretty much the best fansub group out there (who can say no to reliable, accurate, next-day fansubs?), but they have a great sense of humor, which I imagine comes in handy when you have to put up with the more deranged anime viewers out there that they seem to attract judging by their "hate mail".

Dattebayo love to wind those people up, and it's pretty damm entertaining. Generally anyone with half a brain can spot 90% of their trolls, but occassionaly they do a really good one that manages to get you anyway. However the dim witted retards out there that have no brain don't really seem to "get" anything. Apparently it's not good enough that they turn around releases 18hours after the show airs (or future proof their encodes now Naruto has changed to widescreen) so Dattebayo have put up very tongue in cheek letter to the community

Dattebayo is announcing today that it will abandon its high-efficiency 18-hour fansubbing process in favor of a more traditional fansubbing model. This is being done so that we can deliver a product more in line with fan expectations, as well as to better allow other subbing groups to compete with us, something no one has been able to for the past 3 years.

It made me chuckle a lot anyway. Obviously not every group can work like Dattebayo do and thats fine for the majority of cases*, but from a sane persons perspective, theres not a lot Dattebayo have done wrong since they started

*Unless you are Live-Evil and try to juggle 10 different projects at once, but can only release one episode a week from only one of them at a time.

The translations are a bit iffy, but since no-one does Bleach and Naruto as quickly as them, they're perfectly useable.

Just reading that letter, they complain about the filters people use to sharpen the image as 'detail sucks!' to be honest I've always thought their raws looked a little wooly, now I understand why! I've never experienced the whole 'fine-timing vs. rough timing thing either'. A lot of stuff they were poking fun at seemed to be a world away from decent fan subs, beyond the issue of time anyway.

Does the issue of multiple formats actually bother anyone? It can be kinda irritating waiting for the one you want, but isn't it generally mkv vs. avi and HD vs. SD? That's pretty simple, right?

I generally don't mind their trolls since they're so bloody obvious, but it's a little off insinuating that no-one translates as well as them. It's kind of odd they took that high and mighty tone over it, since they do make mistakes and occasionally release v2s of episodes and whatnot.

I took it to be more of a reference to the bottom end of the fansubbing league rather then other big groups that regulary put out decent work.

They are a lot quicker to do things about it though, their v2's (which aren't common) tend to be out the same day as the v1 and replace it on the tracker rather then be seeded separately as some do

Yeah, it just seemed to be a bit of a misfire; they started ribbing the fans by saying that they'd slow down like other groups, but the more detailed it got the more arrogant and posturing it sounded.

I forgot to mention: has anyone heard the Special A OP? So. So. So. Painful.

The only OP in this entire season I've been unable to watch. I got 10 seconds into it before I had to skip past it. On a similar note, Kyouran Kazoku Nikki looks like it'll have alternate endings according to each character. Kyouka and the robot/predator ones are the most bearable though.

New series subbed(Real Drive and Kaiba fucking where?!) by the name of The Daughter of Twenty Faces. Nice animation and music and a feel of the old adventure/thief novels and series of old.

That's the other series with Hirano Aya, right? Will check it out, but the character design looks rubbish!

They were blatantly on the wind up though, so it's easy to see. Dattebayo's trolling and arrogance is really what seperates them from the pack if you ask me. Theres a lot of complete fucktards out there who follow bleach and naruto and rather then put up with the shit they get off so called 'fans" who want to bite the hand that feeds them, they just wind them up more. Most people would just say "fuck you" and live a peaceful life.

Piro probably wants dattbebayo to implode, but I think it will be a sad day if they do. I would actually be interested to see a comparison between dattebayo's bleach and someone elses. Saying it's higher quality is one thing, but in what way? Video wise I've not noticed anything to say dattebayo's raws are awful although I've seen some mention their naruto raws aren't great. I can't say I see the problem with them though, they all look great on my 37"

ADVLOL

Anyone remember a few months ago when ADV had a meltdown and removed loads of licenses including Gurren Lagan? Well, look's like they've dropped a bollock or too as Bandai have picked it up instead. Predictably bandai also announced Gundam 00

Apparently, a sub only version will be released starting this July, followed by a brand new dub (i.e. no Vic McNugget) in 2009.

Wait, July is only three months away?!?! Oh wow, need to sit down... there's quite a bit of awesome in the air. Releasing three, sub only volumes, each one will have approximately nine episodes a piece, the entire series (in some form) will be here by September. Thanks be unto Bandai Entertainment...

So we can expect Bandai to push the typical pricing up again then.....

Their SD raws are regularly terrible, but I've found their HD versions to be fantastic.

Shame on you for not recognising Keroro Gunsou. It's all kinds of aces and shit.

They did for the start of Shippuuden. They were excellent.

Are you sure? I don't remember any myself, and I've checked the site - there's no evidence of any HD releases. I don't think the show is even shown in HD - it only just made the jump to widescreen a few weeks ago...

Wrong.

Scott Green from Aintitcool.com:

Bandai Entertainment Inc. announced today that it will distribute Aniplex’s release of GURREN LAGANN which was created by anime powerhouse studio GAINAX (Evangelion, Gunbuster, The Wings of Honneamise). The 27-episode science fiction, comedy action series centers on Simon, Kamina and Yoko, youths who live in an underground village on a future earth. They become embroiled in a conflict with surface “Beastmen” who pilot mech known as Gunmen, one of which they take for themselves and name GURREN, and lead the battle against the Beastmen. Recently the series won “best television series” and “best character design” at the 2008 Tokyo Animation Fair (TAF)

Because of the overwhelming desire by fans to have this title released, Bandai Entertainment Inc. will create a subtitle only initial release of the series in three parts. Vol. 1 of the sub only release will contain episodes 1-9 and be released on July 8 th for $29.98 with a pre-sale occurring the weekend of Anime Expo 2008. Vol. 2 and Vol. 3 of the subtitled only version will be released in August and September respectively. In early 2009, an all new English dub version will be released with Japanese audio and English subtitles with both a regular and special editions. More details on the 2009 release pattern and spec will be announced later this year.

The series had previously been licensed by ADV Films, the first three episodes were streamed through The Anime Network, and the title was scheduled for release in March. When ADV put their new releases on moratorium, Gurren Lagann was removed from their schedule.

$29:98 for 9 episodes of Gurren Lagann is a bargain.
