Gonzo generally produce some lovely imagery, but they can rarely string a plot together worth shit.

See: Hellsing. Oh christ.

On a different note, they produced the rather good Last Exile, which is well worth a shot. It sometimes threatens to fall off the tracks plot-wise, but it keeps things together.

I enjoyed Samurai 7 too.

Gundam 00 24:

Holy shit. Alejandro's golden monstrosity has seven GN Drives. Oh, and some other people died too.

SEVEN?!

Chris' death was a bit of a tear jerker but i'm glad that retarded "ace" pilot finally died instead of being disabled in every freaking battle....

Do they have a page listing what on offer? I can't seem to find one.

The cut-price boxsets aren't really on an invividual sale page.

The ones I mentioned popped up in the ''Others have bought'' selection via the Checkout page.

Just search for any ADV titles you can think of.

Probably cheap due to the closing of the ADV UK branch.

Although as there are non-ADV boxsets for cheap too, it becomes either a guessing game or a trawl through the listing pages.

They'll hopefully distribute via another company.

So I started on Gurren Lagann. OH MY GOD WHAT HAVE I BEEN MISSING... PUNCH!

WHO THE HELL DO YOU THINK YOU ARE?!.... KICK!

Wait, you've not seen it? Out of all the people in this thread, I would have said that GL was practically made specifically for both you and Piro and Chow.

Sorry. At this stage, it's impossible for me to associate any other series with you other than trigun. I still think you secretly look like Vash.

Maybe Macross Plus.

I'm fat and Asian. You fail at life.

Prepare yourself for an emotional rollercoster.

Manly tears will ensue.

Come and post here after episodes 8, 11, 15, 21, 25, 26, and 27 :)

Manga's the same, it's just a joke.

Some do it far better than others though.

Also I don't think anyone would be complaining about the current arc if there hadn't been a time in which they did enjoy it. I don't think Tite Kubo has really been up to scratch of late, and that's very unlikely to transfer well into the anime.

The last Bleach episode was really weird with the flashbacks - the characters used to look pretty cool, even a little bit edgey - now they're all drawn so blandly. :)

I agree, the first 20 episodes or so all had a brilliant style which dissolved when Bleach got turned into Dragonball with swords.

At least it isn't as shit art/animation wise as Naruto is, which I gave up watching 3 months ago or so.

I literally just read a bit about that before coming in this thread

2channel incident

Takami Akai, the producer of the series and a co-founder of Gainax, announced that he would resign his position effective episode five, which aired on April 29, 2007, over comments that he made regarding posts on the Japanese Internet forum 2channel. Akai and another Gainax employee, Keiko Mimori, made disparaging remarks about comments criticizing the animation style of the fourth episode of Gurren Lagann, which was completely directed by guest and friend Osamu Kobayashi. With regard to reading the fan criticisms, Akai stated that it was "like putting [his] face next to an anus and breathing deeply." Fans later became aware of his comments, and he announced his departure from the company he helped to found.

Have you even watched Dragonball? Thats a serious question btw. I'd argue that Bleach is anything but (it has a plot!), but others will claim all bleach/naruto type shows are with some stupid reasoning (oh noes, a shonen battle show!!!! it must be the new dbz lolz)

I'll admit to Naruto having varying animation quality, but shit is hardly the word I'd use. Yes it is very easy to see where they are saving money, but on the whole it's consistent, and of reasonable (not amazing granted) quality. When they do save money it's usually because something expensive is on the way, and the affected shots are hardly essential. Aside from the gai vs gai fight in one ep months ago I couldn't point out a truly badly animated sequence (a couple of frames don't count) since the exam arc when Gaara strolls through the corridor before his match.

While people are whining about Bleach, Viz have licensed the movie.

What was all the fuss about GL episode 4? I quite liked the different art style.

That's the first time i've ever heard sometime say that. I, and pretty much everyone else thought it was fucking horrible ;)

1. I watched all of Dragonball a few years ago. I thoroughly enjoyed it at the time. Okay, maybe I was exaggerating with the "Bleach is DB with swords", but recently all the "cero" attacks in the Bleach anime are a little annoying. I still like the Bleach anime though :P

Yes, Naruto Shippuden is utter shite. This is all I need to prove my point:

You are basing it on that? "Must try harder" springs to mind. Fair do's on the Dbz/bleach thing, but you'll have a job convincing me regarding Shippuden. Not that it's worth each of us "discussing it enthusiastically", you either like it or not, which is fair enough.

If we want to talk in depth about animation quality we can always discuss the back end of Evangelion with it's 30second pauses :P

In other news I managed to download Top wo nerae/Gunbuster, so if I can get lovefilm to send me Gunbuster 2 quickly, this weekend will be Gunbuster weekend ;)

The pacing. My god, the pacing. They managed to expand two short arcs into 50+ episodes. Especially the rescue Gaara arc. I can't believe I watched that.

The animation quality. So. Bad. I can give many examples if you want.

The music. Can't even touch the part 1 OST. The last thing I watched before I gave up was the KN4 transformation and the music, along with the poor animation ruined it. Completely.

Didn't we just have this conversation about pacing of long running shonen manga and it's tv versions? But hey, I'm not reading the manga (Ironically I prefer anime for such stories), and it's a bit late for me to start watching completed arcs like I do with all my other anime

I agree about the music though, the first couple of osts from the original were fantastic but I couldn't identify a non op/end track from Shippuden that wasn't used on the original. But then Evangelion aside, I couldn't name a show that had a consistently good ost over several albums and/or seasons anyway.

I didn't notice much difference between the Naruto and Bleach animes. That is, I thought they were both as good/bad as each other. But I haven't seen an episode of either in over a year.

Ding Ding Ding! Winner. ;)
