Aintitcool.com's regular Anime column has a write-up on Gurren Lagann as the 1st Dvd hits next month:

<a href="http://www.aintitcool.com/node/35214" target="_blank">http://www.aintitcool.com/node/35214</a>

Worth a read. Even though the show is compared to Star Wars a fair bit. It also recaps the episode 4 controversy as well.

Man, I especially agree with the above quote.

The combination of certain forumites and the website Japanator making it personally difficult for me to do so.

Gurren Lagann episode 17 spoilers

Somehow the only spoiler I managed to see was that PERHAPS Nia would turn evil or something in part 2. It wasn't even much of a spoiler since it happens in the first part 2 episode

Ah man, Gurren Lagann just had an epic feel about it that I haven't really seen anywhere else.

This should interest GL fans(Spoilers for entire series): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zaVZxjKSz5Q...feature=related

Awesome video. One that you definitely shouldn't watch until you've finished the series :)

Just spent the last couple of days reading the Berserk manga thanks to OneManga. Bloody brilliant. Just managed to hit the point where the series ends and loving every minute. The anime is a damn good rendition of the first 100 chapters and having read it I'm surprised how much they actually fit in. However I do get the impresionn having read it, that the anime was meant to have a sequel or be a continuous series. Just a shame it never continued 8)

The amount of filler really put me off this series, especially as it's not long periods of easily ignorable filler, but seems to crop up every few episodes. Where is it up to at the moment in relation to the manga?

Just started watching the anime, up to ep.7 its OK at the moment alot of stuff is edited out which sucks but its still very enjoyable. The manga however, fricking rules.

Also Midori is that the girl who becomes the left hand of the boy she fancies?, if so yeah that was cool and cool ending song too.

Ah, cheers anyway.

In other news, Hayate 39 is a treat for anyone who likes Gurren Lagann. 8)

I'm a bit behind on my Hayate, I think the latest one I watched was an EVA reference one, AT-fields and Lances galore!

Also, is Code Geass worth watching?

That's not too far back actually, just two episodes or so. They really make a big deal of it, copying the animation style and eye catches. ;)

about Code Geass:

HELL YES! I loved this show and I don't even like big robots that much.

I'm on episode 18 myself, and I say yes.

It's like death note, but with more characters and giant robots. I eagerly await for Lelouch to say "Just as planned" while wearing a mic and headphones. Oh, and I just love the AU it has going. British empire? Awesome.

Thanks Piro and imp. I'll proceed with the acquisition of episodes. One query though, what's the dealie with these ".5" subs, I'm looking into the gg ones and a number of them such as 8.5 and 17.5 exist. What's the deal with these (no spoilers plx if an explanation would compromise ruining something)? Are they just recap episodes or something?

That's exactly it. Well, for those two episodes anyway. There are a few 'picture books' which are tagged something like x.5, x.33 or x.95 - these are still images with voice acting which were DVD extras - they're generally just a bit of light entertainment or a clarification of back story (or sheer fanservice), by no means necessary to watch, but can be interesting/amusing. I didn't watch any of them until well after I'd seen the series anyway. Have fun watching!

The two ".5's" i've watched have been summary episodes with about 5 minutes of extra content.

(Spoilers for up to episode 20?)

Also, I fucking hate Suzaku. The episodes seem to be painting him as a good guy, especially after the last one I just saw (20). I can't stand him, he best die. Seriously, he killed his father so Japan would surrender, and now is a dog of his country's oppressor? He even goes as far to kill the people he should be protecting! How does he think he'll EVER be able to change things from the inside, since he's a number.

Unless this is all part of his master plan, and he turns out to be "evil". That would redeem him.

More like a 30 second scene which is recapped in its entirety, they're not necessary at all, IIRC.

Suzaku does change things though - well, you'll find out

I'm looking for more anime to get into if anyone has any reccomendations. To give you an idea, probably my favourites ever have been Akira, Ghost In The Shell (movie and SAC 1) and Wings Of Honneamise. I also love things like Spriggan, Roujin Z and Cyber City Oedo 808.

I've fancied getting into Evangelion, but don't know where to start with that really, and I've always had an inkling that Patlabor might be up my street. I'm yet to watch any of the second series of GITS:SAC yet though - I've heard it's not too hot. Is that right, or should I be getting that first? Cheers for any advice!

Evangelion? Episode 1, go naow.

As for GITS:SAC, I've also heard mixed things about it, despite not having seen it. Patlabor comes in for a lot of love from a lot of quarters, but I'm backing Neon Genesis Evangelion to the hilt if it's a choice between the three.

I skipped most of them too. Just finished episode 25. C.C. = ;)

Good, if inconclusive ending. Overall, excellent series.

And now you're all set up to be with the cool kids and watch the new series in April. :o

Now go watch Baccano and Mushishi! Chop chop!

I think I'll be watching Mushishi soon, I'm casually re-watching Lucky Star. Not the most hilarious program, but it's got a lot of warmth. :o

I loved Planetes by the way, which wouldn't be a bad for Zok to start.

DO IT NOW! I'd be rewatching it now after having mentioned it so many times in the past month but I've only just recently finished rewatching it. :o That and I have to catch back up with the autumn seasons releases since I'm behind AGAIN. ;)

Or you could join me and (possibly) Zapp$$ter in sampling the new winter season.

The Second Gig is really good, not quite as good a the first but it's not far off. Didn't enjoy it the first time I watched through it (well all but the last three episodes) as much as when I watched it the second time because there's just so much stuff it hints at - if you blink you may miss out on something fairly big. You really have to analyse what's going on in every scene to get the most out of the story. There's a few religious connotations which make sense after you think about it for a while but still seem thrown in and that's only my major gripe with it really.
