The first one I presume is the same as the one released a while ago; A side-story nonsense involving a hot spring/bath place. Not watched the other one yet so no idea what it's about.

For the benefit of Mr.imp and Mr.Bibly if he hasn't been eaten alive by bears, the 2nd sola special is basically episode 00. It basically takes a look at all the characters the day before the series proper starts off.

Welcome to collapsed rushed anime series ending! The only continuation you'll find is by watching the first episode again. Or you could be a real man and work your way through the manga and see what happens properly.

I feel rage! Just rewatched the first ep again.

It helps a bit but still very disappointed. It was close to being one of the best animes I've ever seen until that lack of an ending  Just no explanation. The sad thing is according to Wikipedia they were originally paid to do 26 eps but the last fell through probably due to lack of funds. Damn.

I thought the manga was still going strong? Has that even ended yet?

Honestly, other than do a wrap up for what they showed, I fail to see how a 26th episode could have helped ease the burn of the lack of completion of the series. The manga is indeed still going strong in that there's still 1 chapter every month. I'd say roughly, perhaps, he's maybe halfway through the series and that's taken him 20 years so it's down to you if you'd like to see what happens properly and be forced to wait for the chapters as they dribble out or just leave it as the anime series ends.

Really, the stuff they cover in the series only begins to scratch the surface of what happens with Guts.

I'm still working my way through the Full Metal Alchemist books so I'll probably start a Berserk one next.

As for the 26th episode they could have inserted a bit where someone like Zodd the Immortal turned up and maybe helped him out or even the demons decided to spit him back into the real world for some other purpose. Just something to wrap the series up nicely rather than just leave us all hanging. Must have been a lot of disappointed people at the time of release as it has such a huge build up, goes completely bonkers then....nothing.

I'd rather not spoil anything but Zod has...other tasks to perform. The entire sequence with the rise of Griffin as the new king would have been brutally cut even with the extra episode since it requires a character to be involved that they removed. I can't remember precisely how the anime version went but basically, they expected guts to die. They've marked him for their own and he will die and be claimed by them. The fact he manages to escape at the cost of his arm is immaterial to them since he is nothing to them. He can't even be in there presence without severe pain and he certainly isn't able to kill them. The total lack of care given to him is quite a telling feature.

Like I said earlier, as far as it manages to cover the storyline properly, the anime does a superb job. It's only unfortunate they couldn't end it in a more agreeable way.

Ahh cheers. I was going to watch them both today but the subs seem all messed up - lots of overlap even though there's only one person speaking. I was wondering if it was to do with Ureshii messing up, but I never had any problems with their mkv Dennou Coil releases, so I thought it might be my client (a custom build of MPlayer from animesuki forums that hasn't let me down so far). So.. I thought I'd wait and see if they do a v2 release. I take it you had no problems or did you watch another group's release?

Well I relied on eclipses release of the first sola special but I can't say I noticed any problems with the second special which was the ureshii's version other than th video file being rough but that's more likely to be down to the quality of the raw. Have you tried running the same ep on a different player like vlc or core media if you have it?

Yeah, I tried VLC, and I noticed it displayed overlayed subs when there were signs, but I couldn't remember whether it was in the same place! (I don't think it was). I only tried the first DVD special mind you, anyway thanks for helping, I'm sure I'll manage with a bit of fiddling about.

£30.

I'd normally snap it up but after some terrible purchases I've decided to ask around before buying any more sets.

Download it, then buy if you really loved it. Personally it's not something I'd buy.

Just finished Myself; Yourself:

Bit of a rushed ending, but really, the BIG question never got answered... what was up with the twins? Incestual love or not! Also, how come big-breasted babe had no apparent issues, she's quite clearly the odd one out of the group.

Elfen Lied was allright, but not that great in my opinion. The flying ligaments were funny for the first few times, but after that it got fairly old, but not boring. The series was cut way too short. Sometimes the poor animation annoyed me, but not often.

Watching Code Geass and Kodomo no Jikan right now.

I've just finished Berserk myself, loved it, as for the ending...well....erm

Hi guys, I'm looking for some new Anime to watch, can anyone recommend me some?

I enjoy a good story/plot to follow, recently watched Death Note, PlanetES, GTO, Bebop and enjoyed them all, so anything like those would be great.

thanks,

You may like Full Metal Alchemist.

Failing that, you can try some hot blooded inspiring action with Gurren Lagann which is quite marmite.

Noooo, not FMA.

Get the manga. It's fucking amazing, and dumps on the anime from an insane, ridiculous height.

Hey hey, I'm only 16 years old. That means I can't be a pedo, right?

Right?

Uh-Oh!

Aintitcool.com's regular Anime column has a write-up on Gurren Lagann as the 1st Dvd hits next month:

http://www.aintitcool.com/node/35214

Worth a read. Even though the show is compared to Star Wars a fair bit. It also recaps the episode 4 controversy as well.

Gurren Lagann is the kind of story that you don't want spoiled. If you can make it through the series without catching images from later episodes or reading too much about the plot, you'll come to appreciate your self-imposed information blackout.

Man, I especially agree with the above quote.

The combination of certain forumites and the website Japanator making it personally difficult for me to do so.

If you're just discovering this show, as people are doing every day, avoid reading the Talkback section at the very, very bottom of the link as there will probably be a discussion of the spoiler type.

For those who've already seen the show and just have to post TTGL pics, Try to stick to pics from the 1st episode, please.

I highly recommend D.Gray-man, it definately feels like FMA alot and the manga is great. Also the anime is good too which is pretty faithful.

The amount of filler really put me off this series, especially as it's not long periods of easily ignorable filler, but seems to crop up every few episodes. Where is it up to at the moment in relation to the manga?

I've just finished Berserk myself, loved it, as for the ending...well....erm :)

thanks,

I'd recommend Samurai Champloo which is very similar to Bebop, and Code Geass which is a bit like Death Note with bit robots. :)

EDIT: From that AICN article

maybe Akai got sniffy in his dismissive response
:o

(Akai said that listening to the 2CH criticism was like inhaling deeply next to an anus or something)
