I tried the Seiyan subs from toshokan, they weren't bad. I will probably try a couple of others over the coming weeks.

There's a shinsen version kicking around too but you're probably best to see whatever else turns up. I have a personal...grudge against shinsen with their subs as do a number of other people so I'll be looking for someone else.

Good to have some (hopefully) decent mecha action about.

Heffe why do you have a problem with shinsen?

Is it the time it takes for them to do the release or are they just getting shoddy?

Valkyrie FTW.

Slightly laughable considering my limited knowledge but some of their translations make me wince and in one of their releases they added notes which slated another series I watch. Not that I have a problem with them not liking it just that it's irritating they'd add into one of their releases. Some other places I've read seem to think they have bad translations overall and that their staff are pretty elitist? Not sure if that's the word but it's probably close enough. Couldn't really comment on the last one.

They're passable enough but I hold grudges for silly reasons ;) That said I just finished downloading an entire season by them recently so eh. *shrug* Shows how determined I am. :)

Nice to see you around Xeno by the way.

(I'll edit it this tomorrow. Not thinking clearly because I've been drinking a bit)

Interestingly enough, one of the guys I know said he used to sit and watch gg's code geass with his friend to point and laugh at how bad the translation was. He hadn't seen Shinsen's so I can't say what he thought of that. This came as quite a shock to me since I'd watched gg's all the way through. Can't say it impacted on me a great deal so I suppose what I'm saying is you probably won't go wrong with either of them. In fact I don't even know if there was any real point to this post... :)

Post count +1!

PS: You guys do know that the remainder of Macross Frontier won't air for another couple of months right (unless something has changed)? It's why I'm hesitant to download and watch it, because I thought it was down for Spring 2008 which would put it at around March-April. That's a long time if true.

I think that's right, in terms of the timings, but not surprising (a lot of shows are like that). The first episode does end on a bit of a massive cliffhanger however.

Cliffhangers are nothing new for me. About 15 years ago, my dad bought me a Robotech video which had the first 2 episodes of the series on it.... I had to wait TWELVE YEARS before I could see the next episode! A few months is nothing compared to that :)

Bloody hell and my condolences on having to watch Robotech.

On another note, the VOTOMS OVA "Roots of Ambition" has been finally subbed. It's damn fine quality too.

Just caught up with Clannad, Myself; Yourself and Hayate no Gotoku, all are proving quite entertaining.

Clannad

The formula is familiar, focusing on one girl after another but still interesting. The part about the dead parents wasn't hard to predict though, I wonder how exactly he's related to her though

Myself; Yourself

I'm just ticking off my fingers as one by one they turn out to be screwed up, all that's left is Ms. Big breasts pretty much.

Hayate no Gotoku requires no spoiler tags, it's just plain funny!

I hope i'm not the only one who burst out laughing in the scene where she

breaks down completely. It was very well done though, that scene. So... he was friends with her when he was younger - how does one forget a small detail like that?

Heh I was thinking about this myself after I saw it;

It then occured to me that I couldn't remember the name or face of some of the people I'd made friends with when I was at a young age. I can remember vaguely I had them but not any specifics so it's not really that unbelievable. Plus, it looks like there's some kind of traumatic event that happened too and trauma makes everything believable. :(:)

Just watched Macross: Frontier and thought it was pretty ace !

As far as it's possible to tell from one episode it seemed like a more realistic version of Macross 7

I liked the subtle Macross plus / Macross references too.

Its one of the few anime i've seen in the last few years that has made me want to watch it again !

Indeed, almost spat my drink out on the screen when they showed the bloke doing the 'flying with his hand' thing. Thought it was going to be Isamu for like a milisecond :D

Time to buy a couple of new series but not sure which to go for. Could someone do the honours and recommend any of the following:

Read or Die

OVA - YES! Series, no, but others liked it.

Blood

Film, okay, worth a watch if HMV put it down to a fiver

Wolf's Rain

This I really enjoyed.

Witch Hunter Robin

Only picked this up recently, but shaping up well.

Erm, you're better off downloading than buying copies from eBay.

Thanks to those who've been recommending Dennou Coil, I'm 17 eps in now and it's excellent. Reminds me loads of Ghibli.

Nah I've been buying copies of series this way for about a year now and never had any problems. They always come in proper boxsets with decent hard pressed DVDs with all subtitles, dubbing etc etc
