I gave up some months ago on legitimate releases. These days I buy all my anime on DVD boxsets from Singapore via Ebay. They always come with great subtitles, in a proper box are excellent quality and have full english voice casting. Even better is that a standard show of 26 episodes is always split over 3 dvd's. No need to buy 7 or 8 volumes anymore. Whats even better is that the standard price is around £16, compare that to the £10 or so that you pay for each official volume and your laughing.

Many official US box sets are $30 -$40.

It also allows me to see some shows that I wouldnt bother with if I had to buy from the shops. Full Metal Alchemist is a good example as the entire series plus movie cost me less than £40 from Singapore. It's one of my favourite series now and was discovered after taking a risk.

The problem is that decent HK boxsets only exist if the show is already out on dvd (simply because they just re-encode them to fit on their own discs). For shows that aren't going to be licensed it's a completely different story. I did think about getting some sets like Lupin and GE999 but it's too much of a risk over the quality of the subs.

Also, I'm not behind because I get legitimate releases (I bought more then enough when I was), more that I'm simply not following whats coming out.

I use anydvd on my pc to bypass the region lock. Then I either watch them on my pc or burn the series onto rewritable dvds.

But then you are losing the saving by having to buy enough discs to burn the series too. So it doesnt really work out cheaper. I've also got a really crappy office chair in front of my PC and I wouldnt fancy sitting in front of my monitor to watch an entire series (Full Metal Alchemist for example waqs 50 odd eps, thats a lot of sitting time) :P

I think I'll stick to my Singapore specials :)

That's why I use rewriteable discs. It's not ideal though and I agree that anime over here is ridiculously expensive - then again I remember buying Eva on its release for £170. :D

Took about 3 days to get through them all.

In stores, I'd agree. Online retailers such as Play.com and HMV.com offer great prices. Only real problem is the lack of DVD extras on most UK releases.

Gundam 00 is boring the hell out of me. So far we have

Annoying teenager and a sorta mwu premonition effect

from Gundam SEED and

the evil underling demeaning the ruler of the country

from Gundam Wing. When will something interesting happen? <_< And to think it says it's a 25 ep series at the moment...

Edit: Ep 5 spoilers obviously.

Clannad's still going good (I'm going slow though), there is a slightly disturbing amount of physical violence against that one guy though. I'm also watching Myself; Yourself, but it might get overly generic pretty quickly, again I'm not really up to date, only watched two episodes or so.

It's fairly generic but with a seeming hidden darker side to it. Nothing overly spectacular so far.

Clannad's just <_< though.

Mu effect? Newtype flash! Get it right, know the roots. :(

It's not going to be twenty-five episodes - I think they're taking a mid-series break. The last three Gundam shows have all been fifty episodes, and most of the series had fifty as well.

We've already had Sergei and Graham (Twice) taking their chances against the Exia, as well as various Celestial Being stompings. And the next episode looks like a corker - the title of it suggests a fight with seven giant mechs.

They were scuffles with inferior machines (although the way Exia nearly lost against Sergei when he's in a mech several generations advanced from anything else is just silly). I want Gundam vs something equally gundam-ish. Either that or for Saji and his wench to be brutally murdered.

Edit: Mech or Mecha work either way.

Clannad's just :) though.

Hidden darker side? I suppose in episode three

There is the bloody knife bit, but otherwise the shy love-interest girl just seems to be really just head-over-heals in love with the protagonist, who is the usual oblivious kinda guy, with the twins and glasses girl providing comedy relief and the other girl serving as love rival.

I dunno, maybe things will get more interesting in episode four, there's a new character being introduced I believe.

Ep 3 was the one with the pool wasn't it? Did you miss the

whole watch thing? The fact he's freaking out over a bloody knife and not taking his watch over his wrist screams of failed suicide attempt to me. Might also explain the nightly concern calls from his parents.

Ep 4, bit meh. Skipped through it. Ep 5 another slightly dark touch possibly. :)

If you're after stuff to watch from the new series, I recommend Minami-ke, Sketchbook-full color's(sic) and if you can handle a bit of science, Moyashimon.

You and imp need to post more. I miss you pair's anime related posts. :P

Also, on a side note, should any of you be feeling an urge of list madness, the site in my sig is quite good for listing anime and manga. :(

I mentioned the

bloody knife

in my post. I remember the

watch thing being weird at the time and maybe thinking it concealed scars, and I think you're spot on with that, for some reason the constant mother calling didn't trigger anything at all for me, good call. Y'see, the main guy has all this stuff going on, but nobody else seems to (so far)...

Hmm, Minami-ke is on my 'maybe' list, but my time's somewhat limited as it is, I might catch up in the holidays.

There was one One Piece filler arc that was actually quite enjoyable. It was quite short though, only 8-10 episodes. Jeez, I just said that was a short amount of time for filler. I suppose it is, when you consider the hundreds of episodes of filler Naruto...
