AFAIK it's still going in manga form, which means "avoid like the plague".

It follows the manga very closely. I think you'd be hard pressed to notice many differences (if any at all) between the anime and manga. To the extent that the head honcho sat there with the manga in hand when storyboarding the episodes and just from viewing some of the storyboards they are really quite close to the manga panels (I was sad enough to have watched a special behinds the scenes feature). The only thing is the anime doesn't do all the stories that are in the manga. As Mr. Jeff mentioned however, the stories aren't related to one another so it doesn't matter too much beyond wanting more of it animated.

As it is the 26 episodes make for a fantastic series, which is one of my favourites (I'm talking personal top 10 material here). I'd even go so far as to say the anime could be better than the manga. There's just something so lovely about seeing the stories and mushi animated with all the music and sound included. I'd have to read more of the manga to comment on it in a more informed manner. It's at least as good as the manga as is. IMO and all that.

Anyone seen Mushi-Shi? Any good?

Got it downloaded after the peeps on BSS-ANON's IRC channel recommended it. They were extremely positive, said it's as good as GL and Monster.

Gunna save it for a rainy day (or when there aren't any decent series on).

This.

I've read a couple of chapters of the manga and while it's story is equally engaging as the anime, it lacks the vibrancy of the colour you get from the animated version as well as the sounds and the (spot on in my opinion) voices. Definitely something to be aqquired if you're after something good to watch.

I stopped watching Destiny when Cagalli got her own uber-golden gundam. It got into a fight, had an arm blown off, then in the next scene had the arm back.

Piece of shit.

The worst thing was the non-stop flashbacks and clip shows. It's like Fukuda thinks the audience has the memory of a stoner goldfish.

Seed was quite good until near the end. I avoided Destiny like the plague after my mates went ahead and watched it and wanted those hours of their lives back.

Whats everyone think of Bamboo Blade? Essentially its about a Kendo Sensei who makes a bet with his friend over whos dojo is better and if he wins he gets all the Sushi he can eat for a year. Did I mention its a bet between their female students. I quite like the first episode.

SEED was mostly crap, the beginning of Destiny was better, then the last half of Destiny was like having AIDS directly injected into your brain. Fukuda should be strung up with razor wire around his ankles and flogged mercilessly with long branches. SEED Stargazer was fantastic though.

I thought SEED was great, but I haven't watched it through since it aired.

Destiny...ergh...Shinn ;)

Anyway 00 seems alright but I get the feeling that it's a bit too wishy washy at the moment them saying that they're trying to stop war but implying it's for other reasons....

I get the feeling it's to unite Earth against them but I don't see why...

It's probably down to the opening line of the series;

"It's the 23rd century but humanity has yet to unite together..."

Plot follows: Mysterious group appears > Gets everyone pissed off at them > The world unites to kill these "terrorist bastards" > Clestial Being run off laughing as the world is united under peace. harmony and global capitalism.

Shin wasn't the worst thing about Destiny, Kira's constant "I WIN" button spamming was. :)

You definitely should check out the following:

Mobile Suit Gundam - The first ever series, from 1979. A real departure from the "big robot" series of the day.

Zeta Gundam - Basically The Empire Strikes Back of Gundam. Dark, moody, and lots of fucked up deaths.

Char's Counterattack - Big finale of the story arc set up by the above two series.

Turn-A Gundam - If Miyazaki did a Gundam show, this'd be it.

If you liked those, then try out the rest. I recommend the following:

Gundam 0080 - Six episode short story, about a boy who befriends mobile suit pilots from both of the warring factions from the first series.

Gundam X - Earth is decimated by dozens of space colonies dropped onto the planet, and gangs of survivors band together. It's pretty much Mad Max with Gundams.

The 08th MS Team - A side story to the first series, from the perspective of the common soldier rather than ace pilots.

This lot, avoid like the AIDS:

Gundam Double-Zeta - Continuing the Star Wars references, this is that godawful Ewok spinoff show.

G Gundam - Piss poor Dragonball Z-alike.

Gundam SEED - This is what happens if you let a director and his wife write themselves as the main characters.

Yeah I know that but i meant it seems like Celestial Being is doing this for selfish motives ;)

Shippuden resumed (hopefully) regular service this week, and they've finally changed the op/end.

How apt. A lousy OP for a pretty lousy manga-to-anime translation. It's amazing how badly it's been screwed up considering the quality of the pre-timeskip non-filler episodes.

Are we watching the same thing? For me it's pretty good so long as you ignore the fillershit.

Apparently we're not. This arc has been so drawn out that it is gone beyond ridiculous. It is possible to ignore fillershit but in the Shippuden anime, The filler has been blended in so deeply that the current show is lacking when compared to both its amazing source material and anime predecessor (non-filler episodes, of course). The bad editing and terrible music don't help matters much. It's quite depressing really ^_^.

See, this is why I don't read the manga. means i can take it for what it is (very enjoyable) instead of picking holes in everything.

Your loss. It's pretty much a streamlined experience and not as bloated as the anime is. I'd recommend it highly.

After watching the OP a fair few times now, I have to say it's grown on me. Plus the visuals were nice ^_^. I would also highly recommend the manga, as the pace of shippuuden at the moment is ungodly slow and the quality is poor. They could have done it in half the episodes. At least the god damn "Rescue Gaara" arc is over now. Now we get to see the "Penis Arc".

Anyway... where can I download episodes of Gurren Lagann? It looks.... interesting.

i'm 36 eps into MONSTER now, holy shit, talk about intense!

great characters, tense story, excellent facial expression / characterisation and animation

it's rapidly becoming one of my all time faves, I just hope it can maintain its credibility for the next... 30 odd eps!

what's funny with naruto, is I assumed it'd be in the same position as bleach e.g. not too far behind the manga storyline. However, it's over 100 chapters ahead, and multiple storylines ahead. it's now a completely different world, it's a bit mad.

100 chapters won't take long to cover, otherwise we wouldn't have had 18months of filler. I've no idea how far Bleach was ahead before that went to filler, but that rejoined the manga much quicker (30-50eps). Assuming a anime episode covers 2 manga chapters, 100 chapters would be done within two 26ep seasons. Seems a good distance to keep to the plot for the most part.

On the other hand I gather One Piece airs irregularly partly because it's ran out of "headroom" over it's manga counterpart. .

Really? I'm not a fan of the new op or end (although the end's flipbook approach was nice - shame about the song)

Naruto hasn't had a great op theme for a couple of years now. Certainly nothing to match Haruka Kanata and that was 230 episodes ago

If they didn't pad things out, they'd catch that up within six months.

All they've done this time is added 3 eps where team GAO fought cheap replicas of themselves. Only they've spliced that into normal eps.

Just FF through it and all is well.

It's still a hundred times better than the Bleach anime, which has now turned into total shite.

You're joking? their solution was to fight harder....

No thoughts about running away to one location and swapping enemies, no, they fought for a stand off until they were tired and then decided to....fight harder.......

God Naruto pisses me off to no end, I stopped watching the fillers about half way through, and then watched a couple at the start of Shippuden and read the manga instead and even then I was a bit disappointed considering there's a whole section of Naruto training dispite just having 3 years of it.... *shakes head* they ruined it for me, they really did. Naruto needed the Sasuke conflict and they started great on the first episode when you see them in the new styles and they really fucked it up by having that set so far ahead...and with the anime going so damn slow...it's just not worth watching at the moment
