Just got back into anime and purchased Ghost in the shell boxset (1+2) and Perfect Blue.

What are the top 5 best anime films ever?

Films?

My Neighour Totoro

Nausicaa

Laputa: Castle in the Sky

Kiki's Delivery Service

Grave of Fireflies

IMHO of course.

Hmm, just finished with FMA.

Not too sure what I make of the movie, tbh:

While generally well done, as usual, the pacing seemed a bit off. The end of the film just kinda came outta nowhere without much sense of closure. Which seemed odd considering the implications of the ending (they can't ever go home again! GAY!). Most of the series gave a fair bit of time to all the emotive stuff.

Still, I liked Wrath's death. Best bit of the film for me. I always thought he was a bit of a dick, but his death redeemed him some.

I liked the end of the film it provided closure with the chance that they may return home. All they did was close the gateway on our side but thats not to say they couldn't find another way back (showing the granny and the mechanic sat staring out the window, waiting as they always have for their return). Leaves it a bit open for more films or even another series. Overall I found this to be one of the most enjoyable Anime's I have ever seen. The pace throughout never lets up and I was always eager to see the next episode. Hell a few times I would watch 3 or 4 eps in one go, something I never do with other series as I always take my time.

Wraths death was pretty good but for most of the series I thought Wrath was a girl!

Just mopped up the last few Ghibli films I've not seen. Loving Pom Poko, magical testicles FTW!

Aside from that got Elfen Lied on the way which I know absolutely nothing about.

Going from Ghibli to Elfen Lied eh... you're in for a bit of a 'jarring' experience I would say, especially if you truly know 'absolutely nothing' about it.

Finished Black Cat and it was pretty darn good except that it really rushed the ending. Could have done with another 6 episodes maybe it kind of goes for a double ending and really rushes both of them.

Apparently it rapes the manga until it bleeds, so that's probably why it feels rushed.

Plus, it's a Gonzo show. Based on a manga.

In other words, it was fucked.

Raped isn't the word, just read the first chapter and it has brutally butt raped it until it has no anus left. But, you know the characters are good and it's fairly progressive - it gets an 7.9/10 from me.

Tekkonkinkreet is now out on DVD in the UK and I have to say I was ever so slightly disappointed. It looks absolutely beautiful and it has some of Studio 4ºC's trademark flights of fancy but the story isn't that engaging and the dualism is a little too heavy handed. Still worth a watch for the animation and art direction (many people will love the film for the cityscape alone) but it isn't up to the standard of their previous film, Mind Game.

GL #26 is out.

Bit of a strange one, setting up for the finale I guess

Only one more to go :(

Aye twas a bit but it was good for more Kamina. Loved the bit near the start where all the drills grew more drills on top of themselves. Majorly ridiculous and over the top. :)

I hope they pull the finale off well.

lagann 26 :

I thought some of the alternate realities were quite sad/touching, especially viral's and yoko's.

a weird, but good episode.

Definitely.

I really hope Viral does get a look-in before the end, definitely an interesting touch to have him, a beastman, clutching a drill (or at least a green glowing thingy) too.
