God, it's all a bit pre-school, innit?

Well the target audience of the manga/anime in japan is pretty much young boys so it's not really surprising.

Personally I think the voice acting is great and they all fit their characters, but then I read the manga after I'd watched loads of the show so I was already pretty used to it. I couldn't really imagine any other people doing the voices. Some of the VA work really makes some of the scenes extra special too. Perhaps others will disagree on the voice acting but it's worth checking out some of the episodes anyway. I love the music in the show, really adds a lot to some of the scenes IMO.

I think for me the reason it works is because it doesn't take itself too seriously unlike other such shows that seem to focus primarily on being really cool and badass. Of course there isn't a shortage of such scenes in one piece either but even some of the "cool" characters have their ridiculous traits like Luffy's stupidity, Zoro's shit sense of direction etc...

For my money it is the best of the more well known shounen series'. Plus it's kept me consistently entertained over the course of 400+ chapters and 300+ episodes and as Ryan mentioned previously somehow remains fresh each time (IMO etc...) which is no mean feat.

Whoah, I just wrote about a thousand words on how One Piece properly got me into manga/anime from a fairly young age, but it's way too long and blog like, so I shall just say that I can't talk up One Piece any better than Zappster, and that I owe a lot to other people's recommendations in this thread, so it was very nice to reciprocate. <_<

Yeah, but the trade off is that now you get deus ex machina situations... well, in the last arc -

Gears, Asura, Diablo Jamble, Monster Chopper

. Still, definitely the lesser of two evils, but I liked it better when they were explained better - like

cutting steel

, even if it was just a flashback.

For anyone following the current arc, isn't Brooke such a completely awesome idea?

OP has always had the characters develop by fighting, works much better than in other Shonen. Sure, it doesn't do fanservice or have complex character relationships but that doesn't detract from it. Plus it's a heck of a lot better / mature than the angstfeast that Bleach has become.

The anime's also really good, the voices are spot on. Especially Luffy. Just don't watch the dub, because that really is horrible.

Another day, another marathon of one piece resulting me being awake at 4 in the morning reading it all beacuse of imp. It's amazing. It's really really cheesily bad yet somehow it's so utterly amazing. :( Only 26 chapters till I've caught up.

Where are you getting them all from?

A site called stoptazmo.org for the first 444 chapters and then mangaupdates for the rest. You made need to register for the first one but, eh, it's free and you get access to other series as well.

I'm going through the series again. :unsure:

I can't wait for the last few episodes now. They're really doing well in animating this stuff. :wub:

At least he only had a few minutes of appearance right at the very end and he wasn't constanting whining "Clare!".

Don't see how they can finish it in 3 episodes though. 5 maybe. I'll just have to wait and see. :o

No worries. He should only make a few more brief appearances then he's off for a for a good few episodes. Actually hopefully by that time he's stopped pining for Clare and will go after Priscilla before she eats him alive.

No, it's obvious that by some twist of fate he's going to become a Claymore from Priscilla's flesh and Clare and him live happily ever after....or something :huh:

so, are we actually at the end of the Claymore manga story? (I thought it was still ongoing?) I remember lots of people saying that they wouldn't manage to animate it all in such a short series.
