Do many series run past this magic number?

The Gundam series spring to mind (Wing, Seed, Destiny)

Full Moon Wo Sagashite

Rurouni Kenshin

Full Metal Alchemist

Great Teacher Onizuka (had the manga to back it up)

And of course the immortal series which go on forever:

DragonBall

Naruto

One Piece

Bleach

etc. etc.

If they're popular enough, sure. Shitfests like Fullmetal Alchemist, for example.

Popularity isn't as big a factor as it may seem. A lot of really popular shows never went past 26.

Generally speaking, if it's a big shonen title with a long running manga it will sail past 26. Naruto went over 200 for the first series, but about 70 episodes of that were "filler" while they waited for the Manga to get ahead, where it promptly split into a seperate series (Like Dragonball/Dragonball Z there is a time gap between the two series). Bleach had a similar "extension" while they waited for the manga to get ahead but is made as a continous story.

Doraemon hit a whopping 1000+ episodes over twenty six years   ;)

It really depends on the manga in most cases, as anime based on manga typically follows the storyline to the letter (with occasional expansions on various elements). Rurouni Kenshin could have had another 26-52 episodes in it but it got dragged off the air before the manga storyline they were waiting on was ever finished.

One Piece has over 300 eps (309 is the latest) with little filler. Well, there is filler, it's just made in such a way that it doesn't fuck the main storyline up (here's looking at you, Bleachturo).

Nice post, that.

You forgot school rumble! 52 episodes and back for another season soon! For some reason someone decided that Death Note could only be done in 37 episodes (although they seem to be tearing through the storyline for the past couple of episodes, which is fair enough as all the best is over).

I remembered another Manga recommendation: Buddha by Osamu Tezuka.

Each season of School Rumble was 26 episodes though, that's how I divide it up. Otherwise anything with more than one series would count (FMP! for example).

Ah! My Goddess was another one which went on longer.

Anyway, I never claimed that list to be comprehensive :P.

*sigh* 51 episodes and 1 film doesn't constitute a ''shitfest''. If the FMA anime was really was that popular in the first place, it'd still be running just as the FMA manga currently is.

Not really. It's one of those shows that is meant to end after a specific run. Just like the various Gundam series after 50 odd episodes.

I DID think the anime ending was a huge let-down at the time... how long is the manga, and any irc/direct download suggestions anyone?

25 volumes of manga. If you're interested in just the stuff not covered by the anime, it starts at the end of the trip to Okinawa in volume 14. Link? Nah.

It is? Where did you hear that? Link?

If true that'd be great news. I know they still have more of the manga to animate but as far as I was aware there hasn't been anything official yet on a new season.

Oh sorry, I don't think it's official yet, although I heard speculation that it's likely to return autumn this year or early 2008. So, by 'soon', I meant 'ages away if at all'. Although the last episode (and a couple of others) did quite strongly point to there being a third series.

Has anyone seen Sola 06 yet?

My word, they actually kiss for once, and only half way through?! Quite an interesting episode in all, I thought, with all the backstory - seems a bit like Air in that respect.

Full lucky star opening track get. 4 minutes 18 seconds of pure cheese.

Aye, was rather surprised by that as well. Thought it be in the final few that'd happen. Mind you, that'll probably be him kissing her back instead. Getting quite interesting now. So there was another Yorito back in the past? Probably sacrificed himself of something. Still wonder what the other guy wants Yaka's for.

Interesting fact: The little girl with blonde hair in the green dress is actually Chiyo-chan from Azumanga. Sounds nowhere like her.

ooh, that is interesting, I'm rewatching Azumanga at the moment too!

I downloaded the full opening too, but it's in really low quality - 128kbps mp3.

Lucky Star 06 - Best episode so far! The pacing seems far better in this episode, and the jokes stronger. I didn't stop grinning after about 5 minutes in.

EDIT: 192kbps rip out there. :P

Isn't that from the Place Promised... guy? If so, I have absolutely no doubt in my mind that it'll be fucking turd.

It'll look great, mind.

The Girl Who Leapt Through Time isn't so go watch and be wrong cos you'll probably think it's shit or something which is blatantly wrong! ;)

This guy?

God knows if you'd like it. My standards are so low I'll practically like anything. Out of 175 series I've downloaded I've only hated 3. ;) Must be roughly the other way round for you eh? ;)

But yes, Girl that Leapt through Time is awesome. Listen to Hackign and Sabreman!

:P You're so abusive Meh, why was it a shitfest?

Good Lord, not that can of worms again. Please just edit the post and search the thread if you want to know :) .

In other news, Lucky Star has been an interesting comedy so far, but it doesn't really touch Azumanga Diaoh, School Rumble's first season or Ouran High School Host Club for me...

Hayate No Gotoku on the other hand has been great fun, as has Nodame Cantabile (I'm a pianist so it's extra-special for me ;) ). Darker Than Black is looking interesting, but I'm still waiting for Shinsen to sub ep. 6... ;)

Don't know why you're waiting since it's been available since early this morning. ;)

Glad you're liking Nodame though ;)

New series Dennou Coil has been subbed and it's proving to be both very interesting and very well animated. Getting lots of positive comments from other boards as well.

It's out now!

I don't really like their subs though, I'll watch em, but I'm downloading Mishicorp's subs 'for keeps' (which are generally a week slower, although I guess they'll have caught up in one or two days).

Nothing's as good as Azumanga Daioh though.... I watched it all again last week. It's just about the most heart-warming thing ever!

Started watching Nodame last night, I'm seven episodes in and it's really fun. Nice to hear fuu-chan as nodame. And Rob Lucci as Chiaki...

In a similar vein, I was quite excited by the Kyouya/Suou reunion in Death Note. ;)

Yeah... I realised pretty soon after I posted that that I hadn't actually checked Shinsen's site today, whoops. Hooray for the Nodame love though, shame Froth Bite seem to be being a little slower than some of the other groups (well, at least when I checked a few hours ago... :S).

Meh likes something other people liked! :D For anyone that's not seen it, if meh's recommended it, it must be good.

Glad you enjoyed it though matey.

It's just pure class.

Downloading as we/I speak :( .
