p.s. I can only find the first volume of the manga, is the rest of it scanlated yet?

This is what I've been reading. It's basically the novels translated without any of the images but it's still great to read. Skip the first volume since it's basically what happened in the series. Some of the volumes after that have some of the events that happened in the series as well like the summer island story but most of it is new.

I'm up to volume 9 of the Battle Royale manga at the moment and liking it a lot. The attention to detail in some of the death scenes is quite staggering sometimes. Someone gets half their face blown off and the images of brains, flesh, bone, teeth etc. being sprayed across the page is oddly beautiful.

There's one really cool character who got killed which left me completely gutted. It's not like the character gave up without a fight though. It was a glorious, action packed death.

It's really not very good, though.
I agree with meh...

Battle Royale is the first manga I've ever read, you couple of cunts. I'd be interested to read something that's the best thing since sliced Manga though. Any recommendations?

I think Battle Royale may have been my first as well... that's slightly depressing...

Seeing as you seemed to enjoy the violence of Battle Royale, I recommend Vagabond. It's an adaption of a book about the life of the legendary swordsman, Miyamoto Mushashi.

Death Note is another good choice, it poses some interestng philosophical questions (initally at least) whilst being primarily a tense battle of wits. Sounds a bit dull on paper, I know, but hoestly, it really surprised me how compelling it is.

My answer to everything manga, anime and live action is GTO

This man speaketh true.

I've never read the GTO manga, but people compared the manga version favourably to the anime version, which was in itself awesome.

Therefore, Great Teacher Onizuka ftw.

It's not the most detailed design ever, but it is a product of the mid ninties. I can't say I've ever noticed it, but I can see where you might be coming from.

I never noticed it the first time I watched it but I think somewhere earlier in this thread or on some other site someone mentioned it, never though anything of it until now, where its glaringly obvious.

Shinji

Misato

Asuka

Rei

and

Ritsuko

All seem to have the same face......

Don't think I have ever really witnessed it as "bad" as this before

You've not read how GTO is supposed to finish in the manga? Go download it now! It's just....amazing. Knocks the crap out of the rubbish that was the anime ending.

Just focus on the hair to tell 'em apart if it's that much of an issue  .

I DID think the anime ending was a huge let-down at the time... how long is the manga, and any irc/direct download suggestions anyone?

Blade Of The Immortal - immortal samurai seeks atonement for killing 100 good men by vowing to kill 1000 villains. Involves a man who carries about 30 swords, brutal dismemberment, trick/concealed/weird weapons and general craziness.

Ranma 1/2 - guy/girl martial arts comedy. Be warned that it's massively repetitive, but I love it all the same.

Gunsmith Cats - female bounty hunter, a lot of gun porn, minor fan service. Probably worth getting the most recent reprints since they are bigger and cheaper [per page I think] than the previous print run.

Akira - seminal and makes far more sense than the anime.

Could someone recommend me a decent anime to watch over the next few weeks? After something futuristic/mecha orientated. Big fan of GITS series and gundam etc.

(Would watch Turn A if I could find a decent seeded torrent)

Ta!

If you're a super robot fan, then watch GaoGaiGar. Or check out Koutetsushin Jeeg, although it's airing now, so there's only 5 episodes available so far.

Although as you mention Gundam you probably prefer real robots, if that's the case I'm not much help.

Minor? Love Hina is minor fanservice. Gunsmith cats has a fricking blowjob scene! (unless I imagined it)

Simple question. Why is it that most anime are only 26 episodes or so long?

26 eps is a full season. It's a sensible distance for a show to run and the ones that run much longer are backed up by dozens of volumes of manga to base the show on. Aside from that I have no idea

Do many series run past this magic number?
