Just finished Air today, I found the ending a little disappointing actually,

I know it sounds corny, but I quite wanted a 'proper' resolution to the story, not just the implication that it might be worked out in the next reincarnation. I mean, it doesn't really say what needed to be done to break the curse, and if Yukito's bloodline is necessary, then the reincarnations of kanna are kinda fucked since he never had a child before he 'died'. I dunno, I was expecting a nice resolution, mainly due to Kanon's nice ending and the fact that it's based on an H-game. I mean, what kind of ending to an H-game is that - 'sorry, no sex, the lead girls all left or died and you're now a crow' - not that I wanted an H-ending, I just wanted Misuzu and Yukito to live, really.

That said and done, it's just me whining because the show didn't go exactly how I hoped it would. I actually really liked the way the story recapped to focus on the relationship between Nyamo Misuzu's aunt and Misuzu. And I thought the first part of the special Air in Summer was really funny, it reminded me a lot of Fumoffu. I still liked it, I just couldn't connect with the characters as much as I could with Kanon, mainly in regard to Yukito, I found him somewhat charmless, compared to Yuuichi. Still, an enjoyable series, I think I might have liked it more if it was a bit longer, to give each story arc a bit more breathing space. I sound really negative.. but I did like it, honest!

Hayate no Gotoku 4 was funny! I'm liking the irreverence and fourth wall breaking more and more.

After refreshing my memory as to what happened in Air on wiki(it's been a couple of years), it basically reminded me what I thought had happened; that Misuzu has broken free of the curse in that she's able to continue living and she is now able to remember the things important to her(i.e her mother). The wiki says something that the curse is that she's fated to die either when she falls in love or on her 15th birthday. Yukito saves her at the cost of her memory(I think) and at the cost of hs body yet he hangs around as a crow and since he's managed to free misuzu and so he buggers off(I hink? I can't remember!)

As for the H-game, I had a look at that and while there where h scenes involved in it, they were only special "rewards" for those that completed the characters storylines properly. Although it's rather disturbing since the characters all look around 10 or so. :D

That said, I agree with you that more could have been done with the series in explaining it if they'd had more episodes. I must get round to watching the movie eventually...

As for Hayate, it's surprisingly good since I was just imagining it to be a typical romance/comdey series but all the little nods to various animes and games is quite cool.

Plot resolution isn't the focus! It's just sad and emotional :D . You were obviously spoiled by Kanon's ending, having watched AIR first I didn't think Kanon's ending really suited it all that much (so much sadness/loss in all the arcs), but I guess if you were used to happy resolutions you would find AIR odd. As Mr. Jeff said I don't actually think the curse continues beyond this, as Yukito sacrificed himself/his body in order to allow her to live on longer. And how could you not love the "Gao" <3.

Downloaded the latest Hayate and Darker Than Black, I'll probably watch them when I get home if I have time. From what you guys have said it sounds good!

hmm...

Well, I figured Yukito died because of the curse. He was reincarnated as a crow to try and get a second chance to break it, but still failed - Gao dies even after regaining her memories. Afterwards, Yukito, as the crow, decides to tackle the problem from a different angle - to actually find Kanna, imprisoned in the sky. I thought it strongly implied that the cycle would continue as the final shots were Kanna, still flying and just before, the two children on the beach, implying they would inherit the curse, or at least represented the two people that would.

I dunno, since I thought the cycle was unresolved, I found it unsatisfying, I can undertand why they did it, it was quite moving, and the other two main girls both ended up with happy resolutions anyway.

I think Kanon did well to have a happy ending since so much of the series was sad, an unhappy ending probably would have been too depressing to handle!

Yeah, the latest DTB and HNG are great! There's a quite excellent moment in Hayate in which it parodies itself. Quite excellently, in fact. :)

Misuzu's good ending in the game is as she dies, she is successful in breaking free from Kannabi no Mikoto's curse, due to the literally life-taking efforts of Yukito and herself. It is implied that both souls are now free from their chains to the Earth. Taken from her wikipedia entry... I'd hate to believe that Yukito's sacrifice was in vain, what makes me think it wasn't is the fact that by the end she does remember her mother, and having regained her memories it's quite feasible that the curse was no longer in effect. I thought the two children were just cute innocent figures ;).

"Too depressing to handle" eh? I wonder if you've ever tried watching Kimi Ga Nozomu Eien (AKA Rumbling Hearts)...

I've seen the latest Lucky Star (pretty good, and the music/reference in the ED <3). I have yet to see DTB and HNG :(, but I'll get round to it eventually!

Well, I was being hyperbolic, but I don't think it would have added anything to the series to end on a total downer.

Anyway, here's something we can both agree on: School Rumble is great! I've just started it and I'm loving it.

Also, are the LC subs for Lucky Star any good? I got impatient last week and downloaded an episode in mkv format and the subs overlapped each other rendering them unreadable. I'm really tempted to download episode 3 since afk take a while...

I think the three Lucky Star eps I've watched have been subbed by three different groups . I didn't notice any discrepancies... but maybe I just got lucky.

Hooray for School Rumble!

The series is virtually synonymous with me 'n my avatar it seems ^_^ .

In other news, the latest Sola and Hayate No Gotoku were both rather enjoyable .

Yeah, I liked them both too, especially the bit in Hayate where

they censor the food that had fallen on the floor!

Gotta say, despite vaguely knowing how the story is going to go, Romeo X Juliet is really superb. The way the charcters are given so much more life compared to their complex speeches from the Shakespeare play. Top stuff. :)

I'm notsomuch a fan of this... granted I only watched the first episode, but it just seems so silly/wrong...

Apparently the big 2chan and 4chan (Japanese and Western respectively) boards have started a flame war on the official Gainax blog for Gurren Lagann. Or something like that.

Flame War details

edit: fixed link :)

Judging by the reaction I'm just surprised it's not a Anno project! I don't think he needs another breakdown as he tackles the new Eva movies, so it's probably good he's not involved with it :)

Is anyone else here following Shippuden? (Dont kill me)

It's awesome. I had no issue with the filler eps at all (no, really!), but the proper story has always been a cut above, and this is off to a much better start(naturally) then the original series was.

Now to download this weeks ep...

Naruto's pacing of the story is quite good as it covers a lot of ground that the manga skims over. If only the same thing could be done with Bleach. More Bleach filler would not be a good thing  .

I didn't mind the Bleach filler either! Actually I'm surprised they manage to come up with such a long arc to that degree of detail without relying on the manga. But then I don't read the manga for these two titles so I'm not basing the quality of the content on what the manga did. Frankly I think being in that position is preferable from my point of view as it means I can just enjoy it without so many hang ups.

Note: No offence intented to those that read the mangas!

It was the anime fillers of both Naruto and Bleach that got me reading their mangas in the first place. I cracked after 60 episodes of Naruto filler and about 35 of Bleach. This thread also went through a manga spoiler love-in a while back and I got tired of dodging them. I'm finding the mangas quite addictive due to their dripfeeding of the story.
