Theres a Sony Plasma in my local Dixons thats capable of displaying 1024x1024

Surely this counts as HDTV?

surely it can't be 1024x1024, wouldn't that make it square?

i think mines capable of displaying something like 1024x768 pixels.

All three. Since getting a projector the picture itself is nice enough and big but when blowing up an RGB image it does lose a little clarity. With prog scan it gets that pin sharpness back on the big screen and it just looks more lush - colours are stronger, text is clearer etc etc. The difference is quite huge. Soul Calibur 2 in prog scan projected across my wall in surround sound is enough to make a grown man weep.

Just to second what Squirtle said. Soul Calibur 2 in Prog Scan is enough to make a grown man weep. (Although I only have the PS2 version it is still that good.)

Burnout2 is also particularly impressive and the prog scan display makes for a much clear display and you can actually see further ahead making it easier to avoid oncoming traffic.

Once you've experienced Prog Scan on a 42"+ screen there is no going back, the image is pin sharp, very stable, colours are more vivid. Just like looking at a VGA display.

You could play PES2 in Prog Scan and the menu screens all looked like they were on a computer. Very clear text, very precise.

I find it very hard to buy non-prog scan titles now.

I have converted my loft into a home cinema/games haven, I have a panasonic PJ and have managed to get the projected image to 2m wide. I have a NTSC cube and my xbox is also chipped and plays all my UK PAL in prog scan.

The reaction from my game playing buddies when they saw the difference between Metroid Prime (PAL) and Metroid Prime (US with prog scan enabled) was incredible.

You really can't describe how good prog scan makes things look, PGR2 springs to mind as well...pin sharp detail and more vivid colours. I have the xbox connected to the PJ with Monster Component cables (ouch!) and the 'cube connected via the official nintendo cables...

Just WOW....really!

We actually lead the world in the digital television land at the moment.

You probably didn't want to know this. And as such here is a link that you won't read:

http://www.guardian.co.uk/leaders/story/0,...1186420,00.html

But we decided to compromise on picture quality in favour of bundling loads of channels in each multiplex.

Basically saying that HDTV isn't going to happen here for decades.

And it's lovely :P

One problem: do they export PAL Progressive or NTSC progressive? I'd like to get my Xbox and GC up and running with the AV kits, but my TV only supports NTSC Progressive...

The faux-progressive my TV does is very good though, there are no scanlines and everything is very sharp - much better than just 100hz RGB..

I'm not sure but maybe using Freeloader you can get prog scan out of a PAL GC.

Uxy, what size screen you looking for?

I got the Toshiba 28ZD26P (28" widescreen) for just under £500.

I would want 32". But I can't buy one for a while. I was just wondering how much they cost, and if they were readily available.

I'm guessing (but pretty certain) that the Sony will be based on an ALIS panel that shows an interlaced picture - it won't be able to do progressive at 1024x1024. The current highest progressive HDTV feed is 720p which is 1280*720.

The reason it can have 1024x1024 pixels and be widescreen is because the pixels themselves aren't square.
