Steel Battalion: Line Of Contact

Right, who has ordered steel battalion: LOC?

I'm expecting the beta to be incompatible with the retail version and that probably includes the saves from the beta (All those lost credits :P - but hey I'm a realist) but hopefully they have sorted out the lag issues with the retail release.

Knowing Game and their pre-order policy, my game-only copy will probably arrive on Tuesday ( )

So..... in the hope of some decent lag free games, stick your gamertags here and we'll arrange things when the postie brings the pressies

well seeing as you can't connect with the Beta disc anymore i take it we'll lose everything. I may buy it after a few months. Splinter Cell is coming first and i want to see how well the LoC community will grow. It is one of the best Live games though.

I have this annoying problem...

I can connect to Live. I can go online with Steel Battalion: Line of Contact. I can 'download' data from LoC (games in progress), but I can't connect to a game. When I join a game I get 'the host denied your request' (ok, I know what that means) or 'your connection was interrupted' (I have no idea what that means).

Can it be that the servers are very unstable? Of perhaps the Europeans are not supposed to connect to te servers (game is officialy out next friday)? Or is it my *slow* connection (128kbps upload)?

I have one router connected to a modem. The router 'feeds' four machines - two PC's, one PS2, one Xbox. None of 'em give any problems, except Xbox with LoC. No, I do not have any more Live games (just bought a PAL Xbox two days ago) so I can't test my connection with other Live games :P

I got this information from the xbox.com forums, the 1st quote is from the xbox live director of programming and the second quote is from the Capcom website :

About Steel Battalion Campaign Mode Technical Difficulties

It has come to our attention that some difficulties have arisen in playing campaign mode. At present, we are working to solve these problems. Some consumers have reported losing vehicles while playing the game under various circumstances. Here is a detailed explanation:

• About loss at the time of vehicle purchase

The cause of this trouble appears to be due to a portion of the database getting corrupted. It has come to our attention that at rare intervals, this phenomenon of losing vehicles is occurring. At present, we are in the process of working on an upgrade.

Our daily server maintenance should reduce this problem.

We are working to remedy this situation in a more fundamental way as soon as possible, and would like to request your patience and understanding in the meantime. At this time, we sincerely apologize to our users who have been affected and inconvenienced by these technical difficulties.

• About Steel Battalion Campaign Mode/Mid-Battle Loss of Vehicles

We have also had some inquiries regarding a problem that involves the loss of vehicles during battle, so we would like to explain the cause of this phenomenon.

In cases where the connection has been interrupted mid-battle because the line quality falls below Steel Battalion Line of Contact quality requirements, all vehicles except for one are lost.

In cases where users are cut off from Xbox Live!, there are some cases in which all vehicles in possession at the time of a mission are lost. With regard to the circumstances that could possibly occur surrounding this phenomenon, we have considered the following situations:

• Disconnect due to network obstacles

There can be network delays, and in some cases the network itself has been interrupted. Because some Xbox Live connections are being severed, vehicle loss is occurring. Due to the specifications of the game it appears that at present there is no way of avoiding this.

• Disconnect due to server maintenance

In cases where in mid-play the server maintenance time crashes, a similar phenomenon is occurring. With regard to this, upon checking the maintenance information on the formal site, during that time it may be possible that users will be unable to start or finish play.

Due to the above mentioned problems, as a means of preventing vehicle loss, it is possible for a player to keep only as many vehicles as are necessary. Doing so may minimize the risk of loss.

you sorted the ports out, df0 mate? i'd assume so, just an obvious thing to mention though :D

i'll be on too, gamer tag: magic lord. little rusty at the minute, hope it'll all play all right online (my connection gets flakey every now and again, don't want it to ruin this) and i get some more free time (fat chance, little sprog needs attention). oh well, i feel a bit depressed now :(

Heh, not sure if you're joking or not. Live will work without port forwarding, etc... but certain stuff may fail. E.g. I can't host anything unless I open up various ports on the router. Maybe LOC is using a port that is blocked by the router? Shame you don't have more games to try it with.
