Lost - The Full Series Thread

Curse Sawyer for being a tit and running away, just when they finally get to the place where they might get some answers! It kind of makes sense, because Sawyer has never really cared about answers, he usually seems like he'd be happiest if he was just left alone in a hut somewhere.

And curse Japanese Temple Guy for being the most irritating lost baddie yet - at least Ben/Jacob/smokeylocke have the decency to say something slightly cryptic, which you always know probably contains a little bit of truth, when one of the losties asks him a question. This guy just keeps silent or says something in Japanese, without subtitles! What a cunt.

All the Claire stuff is weird. So she was never actually destined to give her baby away, anyway? Really interesting finding out odd little facts like that, at this point in the series. When was the last confirmed sighting of her alive? I can't even remember.

Last time we saw her on the Island was the episode before the season 4 finale, when Locke was told to move the Island. But I guess she "died" or whatever an episode or two before that when new otherton was assaulted by the freighter folks.

Does this help?

Very nice character based ep this week. Felt very much like season 1. Really loving these flashsideways as well, it's obvious something big is coming from those, i mean

Ethan being the Claire's doctor and all

. Nice ending too!

Your doing it wrong.

That was probably the most unexciting Lost episode I've ever seen. And in the final season!

I must say I prefer the Faraday-science-fiction-big-electromagnetic-countdown-hatch side of Lost rather than the ancient-magic-healing-temple-with mysterious Asian man side.

Anyway, Rousseau was right. Her shipmates were infected. I wonder if that's what eventually sent radzinsky mental.

This is how I feel too I'm afraid. How many episodes are there this season? I suppose there will be the inevitable filler episode or two.

Why the fuck did Claire wait for Kate to come back while she was getting her handcuffs removed? That's the stupidest thing ever. And Evangeline Lilly can't act.

I miss Faraday.

She was waiting for a bus. But yeah her going along with carjacker Kate was ridiculous.

I agree it was a weak episode. I'm really hating Dogen and the constant one-liner-with-dramatic-scene-endings, when hardly anything happens inbetween.

There's plenty of season left so I guess it'll be alright. There's hate online for this one though!

Have they switched to shooting digital this season? Everything looks so fake and videoish now

Still on 35mm film I believe, I think the issue is however that a lot of the filming for the temple scenes is being done on sound-stages rather than actual outside locations, which gives it a more unreal look.

God, I hate Kate episodes. She's just rubbish when she's not on the island. Dogen answered fuck-all, Jack was all blustery and annoying, and the only half-decent bit was Claire at the end. Well, it's out of the way I suppose. Next week's looks good.

No. What's spoilery about saying there's flashsideways and that I think they'll be going somewhere? That's being a tad to sensitive there, but I shall learn in future.

And it was a charachter based story like series one and that the ending was nice. Why not just spoiler the whole thing rather than going out of your way to hide only what you feel is a spoiler.

(oh, spoilers off I guess)

Also that line "because it happened to your sister" just made me crack up. It was like he was cussing him up. "Sayid is infected. You know who else is big on infections? YOUR SISTER. Ohhhhhh, buuuuuurn"

Remind me, does Jack actually know that Claire is his sister? No, right?

Yes, he does. He was told at Christian's eventual memorial service by Claire's mum.

Anyway, yeah, slow episode, but I loved Jack forcing the matter by taking the pill. Brilliant stuff.

As for Claire appearing at the end... Interesting...

Yeah, that could be it as well. Those sets look embarrassing.

Clear of the spoiler embargo -

This felt like most of Kate's episodes did - mainly filler. I can't remember one of her episodes really ever going anywhere and I've often felt she was a character put in the show to create tension between Jack and Sawyer without really bringing anything to the scene herself. Her backstorys always very weak - especially the big hoohah about breaking into that bank only to get a toy plane that belonged to an old [boy]friend. Her scene on the dock with Sawyer highlighted the good and poor acting in the show I thought.

It was good to see Claire again and I enjoyed the hints at the greater things going on - the temple guy saying that Jin was one of them, and should not be killed. The mention that Sawyer must return, unharmed. It feels like they themselves have been through all this before and they know that to get the outcome they need (have always had?), everything must be in place. Either that or somehow they know the names of the people who will in some way defeat the smoke monster/man in black.

Interesting full circle too, with Sayid being 'infected'. Was the guy's plan to really kill Sayid or would it simply have killed whatever was growing inside of him? That perhaps the effect would have been to kill Jack had he swallowed it because he wasn't infected. The 'claimed' comment was also a weird one.

I'm definitely getting a sort of convergence vibe about it. The stuff that Ethan said, the fact that Kate was there when Claire went into labour originally and was here again at the same point in the alternate universe. Does anyone know how long after they'd been on the island, did Claire have the baby? Would it, I wonder, be in line with when she is going to have the baby in alternate reality. For some reason she chose to delay her son's birth - almost as if she knows when he is meant to be born and that time is the same time he would have been born on the island in the original time line. And the Aaron name out of nowhere??

I can't recall now but Jack ever know Claire was his half-sister? [Ahh, answered while I was typing this post]

Are we to also assume that given Sayid died before he became infected, that Claire too died at some point? Given that Claire was Christian or went somewhere with him, are we to assume he's not a good guy? I recall she went into the jungle and vanished but then appeared in Jacob's cabin with Christian at some later point.

My underlying fear has already been mentioned by others here - we're down to fifteen episodes, sixteen hours of show providing the finale is a double, isn't it a bit late in the day for this kind of episode?

Given we've seen Ethan, and along with Juliet's last words to Sawyer and Miles' "It worked!" it almost feels inevitable that Juliet will turn up somewhere in the alternate timeline. Maybe it was just me but it felt like they concentrated a little too long on that ring that Sawyer had got for her. Now we know in the alternate universe Sawyer is still Sawyer, but what if Juliet does turn up in an unrelated scene and just happen to have that ring on?

OK, but still I don't possibly see how saying it's a nice character based episode will in any way spoil the episode. Why would you come in this thread having not seen the episode anyways?

Because it's spoiler free, we can come here to talk about last week's ep still, to make sure torrents are real, etc etc. If it's not past 8pm on the Wednesday we can come in here with no spoilers. I don't want to know what the ep is about at all, I don't even want to know if the consensus is if it is a good or bad one until after 8! I don't even know episode names.

I really can't get enough of Lost these days. I just sit there loving every second. I thought this was a superb episode - it was nice to have a bit of breathing space and get some proper character development, rather than just lots of running around in the jungle and twisty turny plot reversals (although there was still plenty of that).

I was gutted back in season 3 when the mysterious Others turned out to be mainly a bunch of rednecks living in prefabs and forming book groups. I'm glad that lot got killed off, and we've got this more reclusive set. These Others are kind of what I expected them to be way back in season 1 when we barely saw them. The temple sets and their costumes are a bit fake looking though. For some reason I imagined them living in the Ewok village.

Oh, and fair play to Jack for calling Dogan's bluff - I definitely would have given that pill to Sayid.

Are you still not buying into the Christian is Smokey theory? As far as I can see, there is nothing to disprove that ... smokey is either appearing in the form of Christian, or controlling him ... and the same for Claire, as well. As I was reminded in an earlier post, Claire could easily have died when the mercenaries from the freighter attacked the village - she hasn't been seen alive since...

Out of boredom I just watched the season 5 final 2 episodes again ... one part got me thinking about Locke - When Jack is talking to Richard, and says "don't give up on him..." just made me think that there is a chance real Locke could still come through, in some mad way - like it could turn out his consciousness is still around in the magnetic ether of the island and he regains his body from smokey ... or the Locke from the parallel world converges into the "real" universe or something crazy like that. I dunno maybe it's just wishful thinking, or grasping at straws ... I don't really like the idea that Locke was just a loser all his life who was played like a pawn.

Well, he might just have been 'claimed', like the French dudes. Presumably this means turned to the dark side to become a minion of Smokey or something. Though God knows a lot of people have died on the island over the last five seasons, there should be an entire army of darkness by now.
