Part 1+2

These are the kind of answers I'm looking for this season. I don't want anything too explicit, as it'll only end up being ludicrous (as with Chang's line about pockets of electromagnetic energy manipulating time at beginning of the last season). If that weird fountain of youth is all we ever get on the island's healing powers, I'll be happy.

And a couple of seasons ago who'd have thought they'd actually tie an explanation for the smoke monster into the central mythology of the show? It seemed practically forgotten at one stage. I'm satisfied with the whole "god chess" angle that's developing.

Nice start.

I actually felt really sad seeing all the characters that died or found redemption on the island, all of a sudden back into their normal lives and knowing that Rose will die because of cancer instead of living, Charlie will die of some sort of drugs related death instead of going out heroically, Boone will always be a spoiled brat and never do anything for others, Claire will give up Aaron, Sawyer will always be on a criminal instead of a good man, Kate will always be on the run, Locke will always be a cripple, Jack will always hate what his father became and Sayid will never find his girlfriend. Only Hugo seems to be the one with any positive outcome at this stage.

- interesting that Hurley is now the luckiest guy in the world - presumably because he never heard the numbers?

Not sure about that because he'd already won the lottery with those numbers and bought the chicken company. Are you sure he wasn't being sarcastic? (I can't actually remember exactly what he said and can't be bothered to go find it either)

Hurley -

didn't all his bad luck only start after he won the lottery? He could still have used the numbers and won, but all the bad luck after that never happened.

Ok episodes in general. It's a shame Juliet kinda survived all that only to die once Sawyer had reached her, and not make it to the end. Sawyer is gonna be moody all season now. Also that Japanese Other is a complete dick, and I think Miles heard something from Sayid at the end. Surely he's been posessed by Jacob, as Smokey is still walking around as Flocke?

Yes, and in addition to that, the temple was surrounded with the ash that should keep out Smokey, so if Sayid is possessed now it's probably by Jacob.

I hate spoiler tags on the iPhone.

Anyway lost is back and already the brain is smarting. I think happers is spot on with his post.

I also think anyone complaining about the music needs help giacchino is a genius. Nothing wrong with the score at all

I think Sayid didn't actually die at all and hasn't been possessed by anyone. I'm of the opinion that that was what the pool needed to do to sort out his injuries. I think Miles was confused when he sat near him because he couldn't hear anything from Sayid, which he would have done, if Sayid were dead

I am in complete agreement. I was shocked to hear the crackpot theories online after watching the episode.

But then again I never put much faith in the whole "black/white backgammon angle is going somewhere" thing

Hmm, possibly. The Miles thing is a good shout, but then he really had to try to hear Juliet rather than just sitting next to her, so... er? I'm torn between that and the possessed by Jacob idea. That'd be cool, I love Sayid, but if it came down to a Sayid v. Locke Human Avatar Showdown it'd really clash with the whole Jack v. Locke/Science v. Faith thing they've built up over the seasons.

Overall, very exciting and fun, great premiere, but FUCK YOU FOR BRINGING BACK JULIET AND THEN KILLING HER AGAIN, THERE WAS NO NEED FOR THAT, I'D ONLY JUST GOT OVER IT THE FIRST TIME

Hmm. The episodes threw so much at us so quickly I'm a little shell shocked. A mystery, which has been going on since..season 2 is solved in one 15 second section. Wow! As in -

What happened to Cindy and the kids

Re: The new characters

Are we now to assume that the whispers are also related to these new cats? At this point in the game, did we really need a whole new batch of people being introduced, even if some of them are old characters, so to speak? I don't know, it felt a tiny bit cop out to me - a sort of 'well we can't explain this, that and the other so if we introduce a whole new batch of people, who we haven't seen before....

But goddamit, within a few seconds I was hooked like a motherfucker again!

Re:Sayid

It seemed obvious that the reason Sayid shouldn't die was so that the smoke monster couldn't possess him. Same with any of the other characters - but then that seemed too obvious. More so given that Locke-Avatar knocked out Richard - I think he's going to use Richard as a bargaining chip. So Jacob does travel through time as well - because how else would have known what to put on the note? Where their names on the note too?

Could we also assume, regarding the 'chat with Jack' that they're going to reveal to him that his father is fine and well and that they used the magical healing pool to restore him?

Juliet -

In the final few seconds, how did she know it had worked? Was her spirit leaving that body to inhabit the one in the alternate time line?

Miles -

Bloody hell, mate, we're six seasons in. The time for keeping things to yourself has long passed. Unless the 'nothing' really meant that he could hear nothing, meaning Sayid wasn't dead. That pool, was it off coloured because of Jacob dying?

WTF?!!? Welcome back, Lost! :)

Hmmmm. Surprising, twisty and very well done. But... I don't get this twin timeline thing. Either it worked or it didn't - if the bomb went off then they shouldn't be on the island. Them's the facts.

Are we to assume that on the island that Jack et al are on - the bomb DIDN'T go off properly, and we are just being shown an alternative reality (the no plane crash one)?.

That being the case, then two time lines have nothing to do with the bomb at all - we are merely being shown an alternative reality.

I'm just saying they can't have it both ways. Unless I've missed something.

I got the impression that their magic swimming pool had been broken by Jacob dying. They wondered why it wasn't clear, it didn't seem to heal the Chinese bloke's hand, and it also (possibly) failed to help Sayid. I thought he'd been possessed by Smokey, but Jacob would make much more sense. Saying that, I like the guy who plays Jacob, and don't really fancy seeing a Sayid-Jacob hybrid, so I hope I'm wrong. Terry O'Quinn is great as Good Locke and Bad Locke. He's such a nice guy to Jack in the airport, and a real cunt back on the island!

Well someone in the other thread made a good point about the little alternative timeline we saw in Desmond's first "mind time travel" episode - the bit where he sees Charlie in Covent Garden and says "do I know you?" When we see this scene from Charlie's point of view later in the season, Desmond isn't there. So whatever we are seeing in the alternative timeline could be related to that phenomenon - a blast of energy from the Swan station followed by sozzled, time-travelling consciousnesses for everyone nearby. Perhaps the whole of the Desmond episode was an alternative timeline?

No idea how they are going to tie them together, of course. I am loving seeing their little stories play out though. I was REALLY hoping Kate got away from the marshall.

They didn't really say why they were taken though, aside from they were 'good'. And Cindy didn't seem bothered when the main crew were about to be shot!

I agree about Miles probably not hearing anything from Sayid. I want him to live and no more major deaths for a while please Darlton.

Why can't Jacob just take over a random person's dead body instead of Sayid? Juliet and a load of those Jacob bodyguards died too who weren't buried yet.

The music score was really good at times. I just meant for the shocking moments they really egged it on too much, and that robbed most of the shock for me.

Once the bomb went off it split off and created a parallel timeline. The new parallel timeline, the island is underwater due to probably the bomb going off and the plane never crashes. Time travel in Lost seems that a paradox cannot happen. Them setting off the bomb would have caused a paradox but the solution for that is this new alternative reality.

No, we saw Cindy and the kids chillaxing with the others back in season three, when Juliet had her weird trial thing? I think we've seen them a couple of times since as well. They do confirm that the Temple gang are the same set of Others as Alpert's crew though. And there's a new set of characters in Lost every season - The Tailies in 2, The Others in 3, the Boat People in 4, and the Dharma Initiative and Ajira folks in 5. So, it's to be expected.

Anyway, pretty great opening, underwater island (with Dharma Shark cameo!) a pretty good OMGasm. I agree that Sayid hasn't been possessed though - not only was Miles clearly concerned that he couldn't hear anything, but it also doesn't follow the rules of "possession" that we've learned. Jacob's Nemesis doesn't control dead bodies, he creates a new one - hence Locke was still in the box. That is definitely Sayid's original body though, they've all had eyes on it since he "died".

Incidentally, was I the only one who noticed that Sayid's passport was clearly for Iran, and not Iraq? I'd just mark it down as an error from any other show, but knowing Lost it's probably of incredible importance.

Great to see Arntz and Forgurt!

I'm sitting here at 5:10am, drumming my fingers on my desk, wondering just what to say about the most complex, buggered mythology on our screens at this moment in time.

I think I'm very impressed; I'd go as far as to say that that was an absolutely fucking brilliant piece of television.

This, my dear friends, is simply one of the greatest shows that will ever be.

Meanwhile - in Mehworld:

So I've just watched Lost, like. Fuck me - what a bag of baws. The smoke monster's what, like? Eh? Fuck ye jimmeh - that shite's so stale, it's like my week-old milk innit blad. I've waited 6 seasons to hear the smoke monster's fucking Jacob's mate? Except he's not his mate? Chess? Fuck off - what a load o' shite.

Fucking Juliet. Where's the bones poking out her fanny? Seriously - she dropped like 50ft, and her t-shirt's not got nowt but a nick here and there. Where's my blood, ABC? I should be demanding the stuff after this shite.

Fucking Other Other Others? WAT? 6 BASSSSSSSSSTARD seasons and I've not heard a peep out of these cunts? Christ - do they just move around real pissing quiet, like? And did they not think to come around and help in the other dire situations at all? They're hardly not clued up or owt, you know?

Fuck ye, JJ "FUCKING RUINED STAR TREK" ABRAMS..........................................................................

Posted this in another forum, but figured I'd just repeat it here.

We're passed the spoiler shit now aren't we (8pm last night), we really need to sort out a solution for the iPhone/Touch, spoilers just don't work on the devices.

Anyhoooooo

That was a most enjoyable evening in front of the picture box.

The opening CGI underwater thing was laughable, they should have just punted for some matte paintings behind a fish tank. Even my non-techy friends were all 'huh? is this some sort of weird cartoon?'

But fuck that, it was Lost and it was ace. I mean it had Frogurt in it!

Locke is fucking brilliant at being both the bad fucker smokie and wheel chair bound bushcraft wannabe, Terry O'Quinn must be having the best time playing both those characters.

Juliette's death and re-death did seem a little pointless, and the whole rescue part played out a little too long. I wonder if she forced some agreement to get a few speaking lines in if she was coming back, in order to grab a bit more cash.

I like the new sideflashes? We've had flash backs, flash forwards, so why not sideways? It's gonna be interesting to see how the two timelines collide, maybe that's gonna be one of the big pulls for this season, who should survive? The group in LA or the group on the Island.

I kinda felt that vibe kicking in at the end of the last season, when Jack and Faraday (miss that guy) decided on the whole nuke the island, I felt gutted, all we'd seen over the past few years would cease to exist. The relationships and evolution of the characters would just go in the blink of an eye. And that's what we're getting with the side flashes. Thankfully we've still got the old Losties too.

Fuck I can't wait for next week.

Oh, and the show does make a lot more sense if you go back and watch it from the start. I rewatched a couple of the seasons after the end of 5 and smokie made a lot more sense.

Locke saw Jacob near the start when he told the others that it was something beautiful, so when the Smokie appeared again Locke wasn't afraid and went to it while the others ran. That smokie wasn't Jacob though and that's when Locke received a harsh kicking.
