Lost - The Full Series Thread

Yeah I wouldn't be surprised if in season six we see a good smoke monster versus bad. I just hope they don't represent them both via Locke, that would be a bit naff. I'd like to see Jacob return in the form of the good smoke monster, taking on Locke as the evil one.

Edit: Unless of course Jacob was the good version that Locke saw and is now dead and out of the picture, which would mean everything is fucked and the only thing that can stop evil Smokie/evil Locke are the original survivors.

So, if, and I do mean if there are two smoke monsters... Which one has been creating all the dead people coming back to life? Christian, Alex, Charlie, Claire, Eko's brother... I'm sure there have been others...

Have they all been manifestations of bad smokie, or could Jacob/good smokie have created any of them for some reason?

Eko's brother is definitely bad Smokey. And Christian. And Alex. Claire isn't dead, I think - she was in the same room as Christian and as far as we know the smoke monster can only impersonate one person at once (witness Locke/Alex not appearing together in the temple when Ben goes in).

Charlie and Ana-Lucia and all the others appearing to Hurley... if there is a second smoke monster, and they're manifestations of a smoke monster, then they're the good ones, I think. It would also potentially explain why Jacob has been 'off-island' so much.

Bloody hell, what are we going to do when it all ends?? I think we should arrange some kind of Lost suicide-meet.

I have this Dharma Initiative chocolate bar, am going to eat it during the final show ;) It will be about 3 years old though, is that dangerous? :(

To echo what others said in the talkback on /film for this story - "Who leaves just before the final season?"

Comic book scribe turned screenwriter Brian K. Vaughan has certainly made his mark on the hit show Lost. But everything good must eventually come to an end. Lost producer Damon Lindelof has confirmed on the DocArzt & Friends Lost Podcast that Vaughan will not be returning for the sixth and final season of the series, and “has left for greener pastures.”

Vaughan has been with the show since mid-way through Season 3. His presence could be felt though the pop culture-infused dialogue (who would win in a race, superman or the flash? Hurley writing Empire Strikes Back. Hurley reading a foreign issue of Brian’s Y: The Last Man at the airport) and some of the series’ epic plot twists and cliffhangers. And while he wasn’t credited with a writing credit on my favorite episode of the series, and possibly of television ever, The Constant, his fingerprints can be felt all over it. Over the last two and a half years, Vaughan has produced 16 episodes, co-produced 13 more, written 7 teleplays and was credited as Executive Story Editor on another 10. For me the departure of Vaughan is huge, and it will be interesting to see how the final season progresses without him.

We’re not exactly sure where the “greener pastures” may be, but I’m assuming he’s gearing up to go full time writing some Hollywood films. His twist on the King Arthur legend Roundtable is setup at Dreamworks, Marvel is developing his comic Runwaways, Y: The Last Man is still in development but stalling over at New Line/Warner Bros, so maybe he’s going to ry to give that a kick start with a completely new draft. And his comic Ex Machina is in development over at BenderSpink. But my feeling is that Vaughan probably has some more original ideas he wants to get out, and maybe even move into producing some big screen productions.

Anthony Spinner, a television producer whose credits include Baretta and Babes in Toyland, is suing ABC and Touchtone Television with the claim that he created the tv show Lost 32 years ago. Spinner says that he wrote a television pilot for the network in 1977 titled Lost, which contains many ideas and characters that Spinner claims were later used for the hit television series Lost.

Spinner was paid $30,000 to write a TV pilot, but the network passed on the show in 1977, 1991 and 1994. Spinner is suing for damages and a cut of royalties, profits among other things. You might be wondering why Spinner waited five years to sue. Well, apparently he tried to file a lawsuit a few years back but it was dismissed for procedural reasons.

A list comparing the two shows has been leaked to TMZ which accounts for a lot of similar storylines and characters. His show featured a airplane headed to Los Angeles which crashes into a tropical jungle-like island, and tells the story of the survivors through the use of flashback sequences to their regular lives, pre-crash. The castaways included:

* Doctor (Jack?) who was the humanitarian voice of the group,

* Trailblazer (Locke?) who challenges the group to accept that they are stick on the island,

* Strategic military man (Sayid?),

* Stubborn and reluctant semi-her (Sawyer?) who challenges the leadership and has a dark father-son past,

* Drug addicted survivor (Charlie?),

* Physically fit young woman who can perform many of the same tasks as the men (Kate?),

* An ethnic minority character (Sayid?) that has to deal with the racial slurs from another survivor (Sawyer?),

* Lone survivor of a scientific expedition (Roussau?) is found with gunpowder, secure shelter, and a relationship with others who were on the island before them (The Others)

* Female lead with criminal past (Kate?)

The show also involved a love triangle like Jack/Kate/Sawyer, the discovery of a cold weather animal in the warm tropical jungle (a saber tooth tiger instead of a Polar Bear), and a raft built that is destroyed by the natives.

And of course, there is always the possibility that the two shows stumbled onto a lot of the same ideas. Most of the characters are regular archetypes. Concepts like love triangles and natives on the island aren’t exactly original, and could have easily come from taking the idea to their logical conclusions. That said, the concept, complete with character-based flashbacks, is awfully similar. Who knows if these claims are accurate, but the producer seems a little bit more credible than the usual crazy crackpot.

stuff is ripped off all the time, and copyright is fucking differcult to control or prove.

ive had it and as much as it hurts there is nothing you can do, except risk everything and try and sue a much bigger, richer boy than yourself. which is not always wise.

Given the way Hurley and co were chowing them down once they'd found the Dharma stores, I'd imagine you'll be fine!

Personally, I'm all about getting some Dharma Initiative beer in me.

Just noticed this via twitter:

http://www.lostuniversity.org/index.php

Some sort of viral campaign to get audiences ready for Series 6 I assume? There's some fairly interesting possibilities to be had with this campaign, depending on how they run it, eg, http://www.lostuniversity.org/catalog_deta...hp?class=his101

Now:

Mysteries of the Universe. Apparently a TV programme in the 80s on abc that looked at weird stuff. In actual fact, some odd viral videos that aim to understand who and what the Dharma initiative is.

Episode 3:

I want a US campus style sweater with that L.U. Logo on it

Edit - There's one on the site!

For sale?! That'd be ace if so.

I'm not really understanding the point of this. I'm sure plenty of the updates will help in filling in gaps ready for the new season, but surely the suggestion isn't that there will be a University for Dharma workers, or that the secrets of the Island will be made public and it will be studied by society as a whole? Hopefully it'll all become clear soon and give us plenty to talk about and learn from.

It's just a bit jarring in terms of what we know and where things take place within the universe on the show.

Given what has been revealed at the Lost Panel, ANYTHING is possible with season six. I'll post some of what was said/revealed during the just finished panel in the spoiler thread. There's nothing specific but it throws a hell of a slant on things, much was revealed via three viral videos - one for Oceanic Air, One for Mr Cluck's Chicken and one for America's Most Wanted.

They also say that Season Six will be it's own entity (?)

Once we get closer to start date of the show I'll set up the usual thread with all the spoiler rules etc, if that's ok with Blinky Bear?

Only so long as you call me BlinkyBear.[/pedant].

But yeah, of course. I'll change the title of this to promote more conjecture.
