Or you could get the 720p rip off eztv, use mkv2vob convert it into an mpg which will play on xbmc in hd.

For the first time, I'm getting the 720p rips. I bet it will look sexy.

At least this year we've had less (or seemed to have less) of how the finale will be a changing moment in TV history or a 'game changer'.

I've heard a lot that the finale is a game changer. Though they always say that.

I reckon the final final shot will be the statue!

The reveal of the statue isn't shocking enough. It will be a nice reveal but not to end the season with. I think I know what it will be anyway.

Based entirely on what the actor who plays Ben said about the revelations at the end, I am mystified and extremely excited.

Get a torrentleech account, pay the VIP fees and you can download it in 720p as soon as it comes out with no ratio to worry about. Love it.

The 1.2gb encodes aren't brilliant (clouding and blocking on dark scenes) but I'm a fussy bugger (and used to watching high quality encodes now).

In any case, they're much better than the SD rips if that's what you're used to. It'll look fab on your tele.

Oh yeah, I've only ever seen it in SD. Got a nice 50" TV in the living room now.

Why are two shows ending in the same week? (This and Prison Break).

In order to dodge spoilers for both of them I have to avoid two people tomorrow. Bad times.

Most shows are ending this week though. you aint watching enough telly :)

I only download the stuff I really like or the stuff most likely to get spoilt for me as it's broadcast, I marathon the rest when it finishes.

It's the best way.

Ignore that grumpy swine :) the 720p ones are beautiful. All the island greens and blues really lend themselves to being shown in HD, it holds up brilliantly even on a two metre screen.

Intrigued by 2gb rips but i'd have to convert them..and i just havent got the hdd space.

I have three questions about this:

What time does it air? (uk time)

How decent will my connection need to be?

Where can I do this?

well its 9 central US so not sure, early morning but seriously, dont bother.

I'll do that during my summer telly break :) I'm too impatient.

Oh don't get me wrong, even the 1.2gb encodes look great, especially compared to SD rips. As you said, Lost is especially good due to the setting.

As I said, the 2.2gb ones have less blocking and clouding (although I only notice this as a problem on the 1.2gb ones during dark scenes) and the 5.1 surround is nice. They're still 720p, just encoded to a higher bitrate. They're not available right away anyway, so I don't bother with them anymore as the 1.2gb ones are decent enough and are available by the morning.

The 1080p/DTS encodes from the Blu-Ray boxsets look insanely good, as you can imagine. 4.37gb an episode. They come encoded with the second audio commentary tracks too.

Do the 4.37 ones go right back to the start of the first season? I'd love to watch it all with the commentary and that. TL has nothing of the sort and SceneHD recently ceased to function.

I use HDbits.org (a private HD torrent site) and they're bundled together as season torrents (60+ gig). You can download the episodes individually though, from the season torrent file.

I started downloading them with a view to watching them again, but I didn't bother after a couple of episodes as they're a ratio killer.

I should mention that my connection won't do bit torrent and I don't know anyone else to download it so I'm used to watching it at rubbish youtube style streaming sites as it's the only option I have. Whilst I would burn my own face off for some of the previously mentioned HD encodes I have no choice but to watch it at uber crap quality anyway, and as such watching it live appeals to me.

So how bad? worse than dailymotion type sites? and where streams it live?

Thor can you do rapidshare/megaupload etc downloads? I usually get it from sets of those put up not long after the releases, because it takes much less time than public torrents. Where are these 2GB+ versions from, usenet?

It should be just about finishing now in America, amirite?

How long does it usually take them to up this shizz?

Based on last week's release times, 15 minutes for SD and 52 minutes for HD.

Although, it will take twice as long to encode. I'll keep refreshing.

If it hits before 6am, I can watch it and not miss any of my education. Insomnia is a treat sometimes. I've also discovered I can use Windows 7's magnifier to use the PC properly from bed as it's well better than the Vista one. So I can refresh in comfort. Lovely!

Checked times for the last episodes and you can expect 15-19 minutes for SD and 47-59 minutes for the HD version. If double length theoretically doubles that and we assume lower bounds because the groups will be rushing,

0430am for the SD version

0534am for the HD version.

Roughly.
