The Variable

On the 100th episode milestone for the series, the time of reckoning has begun when Daniel Faraday comes clean regarding what he knows about the island.

I'll be staying up late to get this downloaded as soon as possible.

It's quite funny that when the new characters were first introduced I thought they were a bit shite, yet Faraday is now one of my favourite characters and the Miles & Hurley double act is a highlight of the show.

Great episode in my opinion, it was a long two week gap to wait for it and it was worth the wait.

Its truely a sad day if daniel has indeed died (which looks to be the case) and for his mother to have done so before he's even born makes it even worse

Any one thats not seen the episode yet and is tempted to peek at that spoiler would be annoyed for looking, so dont :(

This episode brings up SO many questions and new directions the show could take.

So no matter what happened, SOMETHING did change because Eloise had no idea, for the first time in a long time, what the future held? Holy fuck, though, Poor Daniel's dying words, that his mom always knew she'd shoot him yet she still sent him any way. Surely that means she made the sacrifice for the good of the island? Or for the bigger picture? That Daniel had to die, that the incident would still take place and that the Oceanic plane would still crash.

So by going back to 2008 (or whatever year it is on the show) Faraday meant that if they stopped the plane crash they couldn't possibly BE in 1977 anyway, meaning they'd have to be back in 2008, living their life.

Or something.

The Charlotte conversation was sad and touching.

Shit just got real.

I took that to mean that

she always knew what was going to happen up to the point of sending Daniel and everyone else back to the island, to her past, but beyond that everything in the present day is new to her. Or something.

Holy fucking christ - That's been the best episode of Lost so far....

I was waiting for a Faraday episode, and by fuck they delivered it - far better than I could have imagined. I think everyone had an idea he was Widmore's son, so that wasn't such a big suprise. His mum killing him was. I can't wait to see what happens now, especially to Sawyer & co.

To JohnC:

I think he must be dead because otherwise she would not have carried that guilt around with her for all her life. I think this must be what ultimately makes her leave the island. She also knew that it could not be altered or him saved because otherwise, her of all people, would have done something about it.

I think she had no idea what the future holds because all she had is Daniel's journal which contains all the information she needs to know what will happen (I'm guessing she picks up the journal after shooting him in 1977). I think that episode's present day, in the hospital, was the day Faraday's journal ended. So she has no idea what happens after that.

Holy fuck, though, Poor Daniel's dying words, that his mom always knew she'd shoot him yet she still sent him any way. Surely that means she made the sacrifice for the good of the island? There is definitely a bigger picture that Eloise and Widmore are trying to "protect", and that perhaps Ben is trying to sabotage. We've seen proof of how important this bigger picture is, she sends her son to be killed by herself for crying out loud. I think back when this whole thing started, this whole loop in time, Eloise, Widmore and the rest of the original others made a choice that lead them to suffer this loop in time. I think we'll see that choice in the season finale, something to do with the hydrogen bomb and the incident.

Well quite, he can't use jughead because he didn't (something Faraday himself realises when he's laying there dying). Although I'm half expecting the writers to change the rules now and have them find a way to change time, but that will be seriously disappointing if they do. I want it all to tie together without time changing (because this is the only way time travel makes sense).

Anyway I don't think he's dead. The reason I think this is because (content not in the show (one of those online vids) spoiler)

there was that video Chang made about the future, it was made in a panic and it sounded exactly like Faraday behind the camera, giving him instructions. This hasn't happened yet so I can only assume he lives through this to do it.

My wife just said something - remember when Charlotte was in her final moments and she said she remembered Daniel coming to her when she was little and telling her to leave the island and that she must never return? Well he didn't tell her to never return, only to make sure she got on the sub.
