Lost - The Full Series Thread

I don't think it should be a spoiler. Its official stuff released by the writers so part of the canon, surely. Spill it but put it in spoiler tags, that way surely no one can complain? I haven't seen any comic-con videos.

Mods feel free to delete if necessary, but... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AdWLYVRiin8

Doesn't require much interpretation.

Faraday clearly tells Chang about the wacky time travel shenanigans and the purge, and so he sends his wife and son off the island to protect them.

Quick heads up - obviously there's a new ep tonight but there's not a new episode next week, the 22nd. The show returns on the 29th with a new episode. After which we get one more new episode before the 2 hour finale.

That's good news (at least about the number of episodes). For some reason I thought there were only 14, and was disappointed how this didn't seem to be leading into much of a season finale.

Has it been broadcast as part of the TV series Lost? no? Spoiler then.

There is a thread for lost spoiler why not use that?

This Rolling Stone interview with Lindelof and Cuse is interesting for anyone who, like me, is loving Lost more than ever:

http://www.rollingstone.com/news/story/273...steries_of_lost

This is the most interesting bit:

The setting of an end-date had such a positive effect on the show. I assume they negotiated that around the time they were writing the second half of season three, because it suddenly goes from a bit stale and boring to mega-exciting, and hasn't let up since.

I'm definitely loving Lost more than ever. I related to this quote

Over the course of the first three years, the pervasive sort of thinking about the show — even if you were a fan of it — was, 'This show is going to fuck me. No offense, we love the show, but we don't trust you.'

There's a shift that started around the time we announced an end date. And we're seeing that reflected in the attitude of the viewers. People started to say, 'Maybe the show won't fuck me. Maybe if I believe in it, and change my thinking, I will get answers.'

I'm particularly enjoying the way that time travelling to the past has turned nerdy backstory and mythology into "present day" exciting drama. The article is correct to suggest the shift dates from the flash forward, but this one has really been the first season to me to cut out all of the longueurs.

What's this a reference to?

"We have always known what the very end of this series will be... in order to give the show the necessary closure. We will not be cutting to black as a Journey song plays."

Slightly Off Topic, The screenplay for Empire Strikes Back was actually written by Leigh Brackett (although I don't think Lucas was happy with it and brought Kasdan on board after Brackett died). Brackett also wrote The Big Sleep (1946) and Rio Bravo (1959). Off the top of my head, I can't think of anyone who's written three such peerlessly entertaining movies, especially across such a long period of time.

Now I'm finally loving Lost so much, I'm thinking of checking out the podcast. I assume that it doesn't give away major spoilers for unaired episodes?

Because I don't want to read REAL spoilers, i.e things the writers haven't sanctioned for release, that could possibly ruin my enjoyment of the show?

But I DO want to watch/ read EVERYTHING that gives me any clues about what might be going on, that HAS been sanctioned as okay for the audience to know about. Future episode names, official episode synopses, official podcasts, interviews etc have given loads of brilliant clues, and a lot of equally brilliant red herrings, throughout the run of Lost, and if you've been fastidiously avoiding them you've missed a lot of the fun!

For example, I don't think anyone has ever had a problem with discussing the ARGs, which have divulged a LOT of background information. They haven't been "broadcast as part of the TV series Lost", by your strict definition.

So is it safe to discuss the "next episode" trailers, which HAVE been broadcast as part of the series (playing over the end credits of each episode, during the original US transmissions?)

I have no interest in leaked scripts/ plot outlines (real spoilers) and would actually be really annoyed if I saw anything which resembled that, which is why I have always avoided the Lost spoilers thread.

Oh and I've just thought about this ... is this the first occasion we have seen a character come face to face with a version of themselves from a different timeline (or did Charlotte see baby Charlotte ... I can't remember) ? So at least we know the universe doesn't just blink out of existence.

To be honest it's always been easier to not discuss next week's trailers. It's the same reason why I blank out the weekly synopsis, and remove episode titles. Some people like to go into the episodes completely blind. We even cut down on the podcast stuff because that was, in some cases, starting to veer into spoiler territory. We've always tried to keep it this way and it's generally worked out ok. I'm sorry.

It's ok I don't expect anyone to change the rules just for me. I'm just saying the law is an ass :)

And trust me - waiting for the next episode is a much more exciting experience when you know its title (particularly in this weeks' case) :)

Been skimming through a bunch of old episodes. Claire was present when the monster attacked the freighter mercs, so either she's alive and well or the monster can split up and post-death Locke and the monster never being in the same place at the same time is a red herring.

Also, they're blatantly going to work Des back onto the Island as a means of curing his bullet wound.

What's this a reference to?

It's a reference to the end of The Sopranos.

I hate and totally avoid proper spoliers, but discussing the Comicon vid from months ago, I don't consider a spolier.

On the other hand, I accidently saw the titles/centrics for the next 3 shows and was like ;) .

It makes me get that Lost feeling, without ruining the actual programme.

Last episode, for a filler it was seriously good, had some hatch, some Orchid, the wild and crazy adventures of Hurley and Miles. :) Can't say that I really cared for Miles' backstory, but the bit where he got picked up in the van was very good, as was the Niomi bit.

And Dan at the end. :) EVERY time he's on screen I can't help but have a massive grin, he seriously must be the best supporting character on the show, and for a show like lost that's seriously saying something.

He's got to end up there somehow - 'The island isn't finished with you yet, Desmond' My fear from that is the island is keeping him alive to similar to how it kept Michael alive until he'd completed his task...

Maybe Desmond is the key to Sun finding Jin again, since he can see into the future (perhaps the past too, but this is yet to be seen).

Other than that, his story feels like its finished, since his goal was to get back with Penny. I wouldn't be surprised though if he arrives to the Island with Widmore, or perhaps this secret third faction (funded by Penny?).
