Recore (late to the party)

Yes, I know it’s an old game, but I just picked it up for £4 and am having tremendous fun with it. The shooting mechanics are nice and solid, you’ve got useful robot helpers you can switch between (I have two so far) and there’s a lot of secret dungeons to explore.

My version turned into the definitive edition after install and it runs at 60fps and looks absolutely spectacular in places. The story is interesting so far and I’m enjoying the open world exploration.

Did anyone else enjoy it? I’m guessing no as I couldn’t find a thread.

I absolutely HATED Recore. Played it a few months back, it's the most frustrating, badly designed game I've played in years.

Loads of bugs, infuriating level design, dreadful last few levels and dull platforming.

Glad you're enjoying it but I couldn't wait to be done with it!

Interesting, I’ve found some of the platforming a little tricky, but I’ve not noticed any bugs so far. Just feels very different to the other stuff on the system.

It’s on a Game Pass. It has its moments where you can see something promising but ultimately it’s very repetitive and feels like a 7/10 Xbox 360 game.

The repetition hasn’t set in yet, although I’m only a couple of hours in. Seems perfectly solid for £4.

I actually started this again (for the 3rd time) a few days ago. I do actually enjoy it and have got past my prior sticking point- but it can be very frustrating, particularly doing of the optional secondary objectives in traversal dungeons. I've had some annoying bugs as well - such as fast travel being switched off for no reason, scenery glitching, and companion robots becoming unresponsive. Also being only allowed two robots at a time (which I understand makes sense for combat and dungeons) makes the outdoor exploration a bit finicky.

On the whole though despite these annoyances I still find myself wanting to play it - as I find the combat quite satisfying and like the exploration. Maybe I'll actually complete it this time.

I think it had some bits missing when it launched. Also launched during the Xbox is TV TV TV period.   I had fun with it.   7/10

It does sound like it has had quite the overhaul. 7/10 seems about right so far.

It’s cert Worth having a gander. I decided to buy it for no other reason than I tend to forget about stuff on Games Pass. When I see something on a shelf I’m more likely to play it.

Well I seem to have hit a stumbling block in this and it’s all gone downhill a little bit. I can’t make progress without the ape suit but I can’t swap any cores into him for some reason as he’s apparently level 20 and my three other robots are nowhere near this. I don’t like the racing sections either. Not too sure what to do now as I can’t make any progress whatsoever without any grinding.

I don't recall having similar issue - and fairly certain duncan was lower level when I got him. Are you able to change Duncans loadout? Perhaps you have equiped items which have bumped up his level requirements.

[edit - also check the other frames you are swapping with which could be causing the problem]

Yeah one of the things that really pissed me off about this is the mandatory grinding.  For example, when you needed a specific amount of cores to unlock the next section of the main campaign, and the only way to find them was by grinding some of the really poor side quests, or spending ages trying to find a frustratingly placed core.

The game makes you go on these laborious side quests and it's mega annoying.

I felt core progression is quite lenient - unless I'm about to hit a brick wall in requirtements. The (I presume) end area needed just 30 cores - which for me was just a couple of extra  side dungeons (of which there are many), and if you don't enjoy doing any of those then you probably won't enjoy the rest of the game.

But you shouldn't need to grind anyway at the Duncan stage of the game, I think it's just the fiddly core swapping that has cores-d the issue, and changing the loadouts should resolve it.

Sunset Overdrive is really good. Cracking soundtrack, beautiful visuals, stupid humour, a couple of weird Tower Defence bits which I disliked at first but didn’t mind (I think there were three IIRC) and clearly Insomniac’s PoC for Spider-Man.

Recore has some good parts but I got a bit bored of the combat and ultimately stuck on a boss battle I didn’t not enjoy at all which made me give up.

I tried resetting all the cores to the base bodies but hasn’t made an difference. Mac is on level 17.

Just to clarify by resetting to base bodies you also changed the head/legs/tails etc to the lowest white level ones before trying to swap cores, and not just moved the cores into the original frames?

Having just one piece with a higher level requirement can screw you over when swapping cores - particularly when your cores have different levels.

I'm sure I did. I'll do it tonight and double check.
