Man, I am beyond gutted. The king of blue-eyed soul. Pouring one out for the best there ever was.

 

 

I remember I was taping a pirate station in Bristol at about 3AM in 1994 or something and this track came on, first time I ever heard it and I was just stunned. As soon as it finished I stopped the tape and kept playing and rewinding, playing and rewinding, must have listened to it around thirty times before I went to bed, it just blew me away. A perfect song in every way.

I think he played all the instruments on What You Won’t Do For Love too…the bit where he first sings ‘my friends wonder what is wrong with me’ and he plucks the guitar on top so it just goes DOOP…doop, it sends me crazy.

What You Won't Do For Love is an evergreen classic. I especially love that Miami Beach live performance - "it's a vibe" as I believe the kids these days would say.

 

For my sins, I'm not really familiar with any of his other material apart from Open Your Eyes (also classic).
