Taking my 6 year old daughter to see Paramore

I got 3 tickets to see Paramore in the Manchester Arena. They're Seated tickets and with the event stating it wasnt age restricted, as long as kids were accompanied by adults, I thought it'd be pretty cool to take her.

I'm now having second thoughts as my daughter is only 6 and I'm worried it might be a bit of an overwhelming experience for her or just not suitable in other ways. Has anyone else had any experience taking younger kids to gigs?

My parents took me to a seated concert (not a gig, it was part of a jazz festival if I remember right) when I was little and all I thought was that it was too noisy - otherwise just boring. I’m sure she’ll be fine but she might not enjoy it as much as you’re hoping she will.

Yeah, this is another concern. She loves Paramore at home, dances around the room to them and sings but it's a different story sitting in a room for 90+ minutes watching them

Will your daughter even make the connection that the people onstage are the same as the ones she sings along with at home? I remember piecing live concerts together in my mind when I was a kid and that Adam Ant was someone you could go watch as well as buying his records, but I'm sure I was 9 or 10 by then, maybe a bit older. I didn't fully grasp how it worked though.

Conceptually it's a weird one for a young child - the amount of people, the lights, the sheer volume even with earplugs, (which themselves can be distressing for a child to wear) concerts can be an intimidating environment if you're not completely comfortable with everything that's going on. It is total sensory overload.

I was 13 when I went to my first gig (Mortorhead) which was terrifying - I thought the lighting rig was falling down and that I'd never hear again. Two months later we went to see Maiden which was a bit less scary, but at six years old I dunno how I would've handled it.

I’ve seen plenty of kids that age and younger at things like the Latitude festival, but that’s probably a less intense experience with it being easier to wander off and get some space!

  • 1 month later...

My daughter also six, wants to go to a Boss Night in Liverpool, which is age restricted, but they do put in kids nights under the banner too which is brilliant.

When my son was younger we'd do the Matthew st festival in the city shame that is no longer about as a great way for kids to experience such events
