Nope. I think I'm out.

Spoiler

An endless bloody dialogue that's not even particularly funny just to get into a sewer area. Oh what fun. No wait, the other thing.

I get what they're trying to do, but those things that are annoying in games are usually avoided in good games because they're annoying. So putting them in even as a joke still ends up making your game bad, because even if it's funny it's still annoying!

I decided to go back to this later and give it another chance as there were bits I liked. But alas, even pressing forward didn't help much

Spoiler

It's mainly the combat that's the problem. It's just really uninteresting and not particularly challenging or engaging. And until you get some better weapons using the pistol is a complete slog having to tap constantly. The weapon feedback is also feeble, and the enemies get very samey. The boss fights I did were rather mediocre as well.

But worst of all: the combat music. It's often aggressively awful, repetitive and is all variations on an endless loop of constantly rising notes like an alarm or something going off. Genuinely some of the worst I've heard.

Also required a restart at one point and had to do a puzzle over again as it didn't trigger an NPC dialogue which was supposed to open a door.

It's a shame, because I did find parts of it very funny, it just doesn't really hold up as a particularly good game enough for that to carry it.

just tried this on PC...its off with 5 mins, motion sickness...where the fuck is the FOV slider!?!

ffs, PC shooters CANNOT have the same narrow ass fov as console games as you sit closer to the sccreen!

Never mind the other issues, such as the awful stuttery frame rate that is apperently 60!?! an options screen with pathetic options, and that if you move the cursor to far, switches to a different options screen!

Its a fucking UE game, the options exist in the engine!

What a mess of a game

To deal with motion weirdness I had to turn off the motion blur: it's one of the most aggressive and immersion breaking of its kind I've ever seen. Moving a mouse around it made everything feel like it was running at 15fps, and that was probably why it felt like a stuttery framerate if you had that on.

Well, apart from the actual stutter, which it also has.

And done - great fun.

Spoiler

Loved LEZDUIT and the absolute carnage you can cause with it!

Also, kudos for a bucket of alien cum being the most random, puerile and useless item in a games inventory ever.  It just so happened that my wife walked into the room when that particular exchange was happening and she asked what the fuck I was playing

Looks like it's doing well on GamePass...most popular thing on there at the moment!

Finished the second boss and finding it a bit of fun TBH. Gameplay is a bit meh and generic but loving the visual style and the humour. The crazy story is nicely light hearted too. Good to play something that doesn't take itself too seriously.

Is it just me or do a lot of the people who hate the humour rate themselves as comedians? I've watched a few streams with players who style themselves as comedic entertainers who constantly crack jokes while playing, and the funniest thing to me is how they sit around stony-faced at the dialogue in it. Like they're being threatened from another source of humour or something, and need to tear it down in case people find IT funny instead of THEM.

I find it can be a bit overbearing at times but the intro sequence gave me a good few chuckles, and one of the options at the arms dealer with the knife - the most insensitive one, natch - definitely got a grin.

You’ve definitely hit on something there. I know Rick and Morty fans are a nightmare, but there is something uniquely toe-curling and grimace-inducing about the people who will unfailingly queue up to tell you how much they don’t like it/this/Roiland. It really does come across like they’re threatened by it somehow. Not the people who think the gameplay is bad or whatever, that’s fair enough, but the people who pop up feigning ignorance like “just checked this out for 30 seconds, never seen this ‘Mick and Marty’ before, wow people actually like this???”. Then you check their post history and they’ve made the same comment 25 times in every previous Roiland thread.

Have completed the first 3 bounties and done quite a bit of 'cleanup' on the initial areas using the powers gained.  About 10 hours on the clock I think.

Few observations (on xbox sx):

  • The general gunplay is a bit on the basic side and while the boss fights are not particularly hard they are on a totally different (harder) level to the combat that proceeds them in the levels
  • I like the traversal especially now that I have the jetpack as well as knifey
  • When going back to past areas it is really annoying that there is no 'quick exit' back to the house, you have to travel back to one of the handful of portals you used to enter the area.
  • Its annoying there is no map especially when you want to head back to a portal to exit an area
  • Could really benefit from a bit more enemy variety

Bugs so far:

  • Had a few instances where the 'hold left trigger' ADS/ zoom on the initial gun resulted in extreme zoom in, like 1,000x zoom
  • Have had slow area loading with a frozen, pale screen a handful of times

This is a fair point, but also zealous Rick and Morty fans are some of the worst people on the internet.

I say that as someone who loved it before the most toxic people in the world decided that it was their 'thing'.

I'm a big Rick and Morty fan so I'm enjoying this a lot. I've stuck it on story mode because I'm not playing it for the combat, which let's be honest is secondary in this. I've played 3 hours now and laughed a lot so I can see me blasting through it over the next few days.

I find it really funny that I could sit and watch a whole movie on the TV in the house too.

Spoiler

I actually thought the Tammy & The T-Rex poster was a parody until Gene put it on and it just kept on playing rather than stopping after a small clip 😆

I've been playing this a bit and whilst it's pretty funny in places (I've not seen Rick and Morty before) the constant stuttering/stammering of the guns when they talk does my head in. Is Rick and Morty like that?

I'll probably see it through, though.

The hesitation and stammers are definitely part of the schtick for sure.
