@cassidy You have to match the Wikipedia formatting when naming games, so e.g. you'll want it in Marvel's Midnight Suns rather than just Midnight Suns if you want your votes for it to count.

Are you fucking kidding me.

I've written the words so unless your illiterate my vote counts. Wtf.

It's so Benny can process the results a lot more easily without having to tally up every single person's individual post manually, which will take a lot longer.

I find a good way to demonstrate one's literacy is to heed the rules of the thread you're posting in, though I suppose it's more empathy than literacy that's in question when determining whether somebody can be arsed to make mild personal effort in order to make another person's onerous task a little more manageable (and/or has a tendency to shoot the messenger).

Take your passive aggressive pedantry and fuck yourself up the arse with it.

First time ever contributing to the Game of the year thread.  And my fucking last.

Lovely attack on my intelligence cunt.

Isn't that how votes are usually counted.

Anyway I'm never contributing to this again. Fucking hell.

And @Wiper to say I have no empathy just so somebody doesn't have to take the fucking time to read a post. Is beyond the pale. Have a word with yourself.

There's someone lacking in empathy for deciding to call me out for just contributing to a thread.

and Ive deleted my votes now just to save their effort.

Cannot believe this turn of events tbh.

The wording of the games' titles need to be the same as each person's template will just be copied and pasted into a program which will say how many times a game has been counted, so 'Marvel's Midnight Suns' will get a separate number of votes from 'Midnight Suns', which will be deemed as a separate entry. It may seem trivial, but from creating voting threads similar to this myself, it's definitely time consuming to scroll through every person's post and tally the votes for different games manually. If you still want your vote to be counted, just change it to 'Marvel's Midnight Suns', that's all 👍

I posted in a thread and got nothing but shit and I'm the one in the wrong.  Ride high on your laurels.

Fuck you all.  Supercilious pricks the lot of you.  I shall rest easy tonight knowing all I thought I was doing was posting my votes for the games of year. Turns out doing that makes me an evil person.

I hope not. Maybe it's because I work with information every day and sometimes have to gather and present it in neat tables but consistency really matters if you don't want votes split across every variation of every name. Imagine if this was 2010 and a Capcom fighting game came out called Super Street Fighter IV, but people voted for:

Super Street Fighter IV

Super Street Fighter 4

Super SFIV

Super SF4

Super SF 4

Super SF IV

SSF4

SSFIV

SSF IV

SSF 4

That's ten different variations for one game. And that's not including things like accidental empty spaces at the end of a line, or accidental double spaces. Now apply that scenario to every game that gets voted for in a poll, imagine the total amount of variations you would have to deal with and manually re-categorise, and then try and tell me that the task wouldn't be made easier if there was a mutual agreement for a little consistency.

My dude, you don't get to call me out for being passive agressive (or the thread for being unwelcoming), when your response to my pointing out that you'd need to update your voting post if you want the votes to count* was to respond thus:

Quote

Are you fucking kidding me.

I've written the words so unless your illiterate my vote counts. Wtf.

Sorry for escalating things with my own passive aggression in turn, but exercise a little self-awareness here.

*primarily, it must be said, because I quite like Marvel's Midnight Suns and wanted to see its vote get counted

How many Midnight suns are there. Which I believe is the cause of the issue?

Where did I vote for Street fighter.

@Qazimodis just giving examples of how things can quickly turn into a nightmare when someone has to count all the votes up.

@Jamie Johnhas given you an example of how this all works if you don't follow the rules - it makes the poor soul putting these awards together far less time consuming.

It's just a bit of fun at the end of the day. No need to get upset over it!

You're not evil, you just haven't voted according to the rules outlined in the opening post (making the curator's life much, much easier). You've got time to correct your votes - no need to fly off the handle. Chill out?

Good lord forgive me for not realising that that I'm playing version 19 of Midnight suns.

Fuck my vote and the horse it rode in on

And to answer @Wiper

I've never contributed to the GOTY thread before.  I didnt read the initial post and had no clue it had such strict posting rules.

I copied a template and I thought that was it.

How FUCKING wrong you can be ay.

Pedants of the year award.  Your all winners.

Im away to sulk now.

Where did I say that you did? This isn't about you and your vote. It's about the guidelines put in place to make tallying easier.

You had assumed that these polls involve someone who would "tally up every single person's individual post manually" and I pointed out that automation in tallying is preferred, and it matters, as long as the names are consistent. I used Street Fighter as an extreme example so that you could at least understand what I'm getting at. You even quoted me for posterity, and the line where I said: "Imagine if this was 2010 and a Capcom fighting game came out called Super Street Fighter IV, but people voted...". Yes, imagine. 2010. People voting. But I appreciate that imagination and hypothetical scenarios aren't easy for everyone, so you could have

Marvel's Midnight Suns

Marvels Midnight Suns

Midnight Suns

and maybe more variations if you consider accidental double spaces et al. Not so bad in this instance, but imagine that these variations happen for every game that gets voted for (I'm pretty sure that things besides Marvel's Midnight Suns have been nominated) and then imagine if some of them wind up as nightmarish as my Street Fighter example. It can get pretty rough!
