We have been totally spoilt for choice this year when it comes to strategy games on Switch, although Advance Wars would have been the icing on the cake.

Yeah if I had to choose a game to be delayed indefinitely it would be Advance Wars as there’s so many other games in the genre this year!

What other titles would you reccommend?

Triangle Strategy for sure, it’s very story heavy but it’s a really nice game with an excellent battle system. The big one for me is Tactics Ogre which comes out shortly, if you’ve never played it then it’s a must or even if you have. Other than that there is Mario + Rabbids although I haven’t started that one yet myself, looks good though.

Enjoyed Tactics Ogre on the PS1, it has been a long while so will pick up when it is on sale. Triangle Strategy is one on my list to buy but Front Mission 1st on release. I've not played Mario/Rabbids was not sure if it had much depth and was a ubisoft/nintendo kids strategy title. So many games are released I worry I may miss out on a strategy gem.

Excited for the FM remakes, but a big part of the appeal for me was their grungy art styles (particularly in FM2 amd 3), and these look really clean and inoffensive in a Fortnitey kinda way, at least in trailers viewed on my phone screen. Guess I'll get a proper look soon, anyway!

The first Mario Rabbids was great I thought, don’t get me wrong it’s not as challenging as some of the more complex SRPGs but it’s hugely enjoyable, hopefully the sequel is as good.

The sequel is better; the free movement dynamic adds loads to it. It's still not the hardest but it's great fun.

I’m looking forward to this. I sank a lot of hours into the SNES game as a young’un. Can’t beat a bit of stompy robot action. I’d love to see remakes of the Mech Assault games and Switch would be ideal for them. I’d also like to see a port of Battletech but given how creaky that can be on even a high end PC, I doubt it’ll ever happen.

Into the Breach has had a big update this year too. Don’t sleep on the Banner Saga series either.

Is this digital-only? I'll get it regardless but I would hang out for the meaningless plastic version if it's known.

Halfway through Shining Force II, I've dipped a toe into Tactics Ogre and just remembered from reading replies that Mario and Rabbids 2 exists so no great rush! Christ, I'll be lucky to get anywhere near it before Fire Emblem.

Sheesh, that slow movement alone would put me off. Glacial!

I've picked this up and it's worth noting that the slow movement is only in classic mode which copies the SNES original, if you play in modern mode everything is nice and snappy and I would add that the game runs very well on switch both docked and undocked with no noticeable frame rate drops. The game itself while having a modern presentation is very faithful to the original SNES game in terms of mechanics and three missions into the OCU campaign I'm not noticing any quality of life updates like Tactics Ogre got so if you have played the original before and didn't like it this version is unlikely to change your mind. There are difficulty settings and on the easiest you do do a lot more damage and I don't remember if the original had those or not and I haven't played it in years and I never tried the DS version.
