Looks great might have to investigate the recharged games! :)

Also to have a look at the inspiration for Yars.. Star Castle...

They're on sale on Steam at the moment and I think you can even get all of them in a bundle.

Black Widow:Recharged is better than the arcade machine it's based on.

Missile Command:Recharged takes the one button control of the 2600 version but maintains three separate bases and adds powerups and chain explosions.

Yar's Recharged takes the simple formula from the 2600 original and adds powerups and new layouts.

Gravitar Recharged is almost more like Thrust Recharged.

Asteroids Recharged is a decent remake with extras of the arcade original.

The only two I don't rate as highly are Breakout Recharged (at this point it's hard to bring something new to the table with Breakout / Arkanoid) and Centipede Recharged because Jeff Minter's Gridrunner games just do Centipede with extra bits better.

it’s great.

bollocks! Missed the obvious “looks good for a Switch game” lolol. No but seriously it’s absolutely fine, nice and sharp, runs well. The new games in there seem like really good re-imaginings. And I love the emulated vector graphics monitor vibe of a vctr-sctr. Would love some more reimaginings of arcade games with modern capabilities using the vector graphics tech in this.

edit: I’m enjoying the museum stuff in this. As others have said, it’s really nicely done and would be great to see other devs get this treatment.

edit2: would def be up for a volume 2 of this with a lot of missing titles (Paperboy/APB/720/Toobin/Stun Runner, y’knaa)

I think a lot of the missing ones are tied up with Midway and unfortunately WB are apparently a nightmare to work with for retro stuff.

Midway Arcade Origins currently on sale if you have an XBox. £3.74. Has Defender, Defender 2 and Roboton on there as well as Toobin, Gauntlet etc. Worth a look. I think I picked it when it was on Xbox Gold a while back as I seem to already have it!

With this collection, the Konami one and having just found the Midway collection on my Xbox getting quite the retro collection on my little Series S. Oh and not forgetting Radiant Silvergun and Ikaruga and some NeoGeo stuff.  :)

Pretty cool (the paddle and trakball bit at least).

just gave this a go, works really well.  Tried Pong/Breakout/Missile Command/Tempest.

Shame it doesn’t work on T2K, understandable though I guess.

edit: I’d say with this it makes the Switch ver the best version to get (though assuming the PC version works with Steam Deck you may get the same features with the capability of home brew spinners n’ stuff).

A lot of the 2600 games are never getting played like.

Calling myself out on this dickhead take. Have put a bit of time into Asteroids and Missile Command (admittedly the 5200 ver) and they’re still very playable. Agree with whoever posted about them being a great distillation of the arc originals.

The museum on this is really great. I love all the colours they’ve used and the jingle intros on all the videos and the adverts and little tidbits* and everything else. A really great nostalgia piece.

Wish Space Invaders and Pacman (I know I know) were on here as they’re the two games I remember most that my uncle had bitd.

*like the 2600 achieving something that even current gen machines can’t do… have every game run at 60fps.

I know it’s tied up with ownership issues but I wish Battlezone was on this in full.  Great memories of playing that round my friends on rainy afternoons.

Yes think Rebellion bought the rights to it... there is a version on Steam in VR (Battlezone Gold) its pretty impressive! Probably what the vision might have been for Battlezone when it was developed all those years ago!

Is that different to Battlezone on PSVR? That was also great, but made me feel funny :(

It arrived and I played Tempest2000 first (and so far only that). Fuck me it is amazing. I know I am a llamasoft fan but I never played it before on the Jag. I played Tempest X3 and loved it (not Llamasoft I know) but it isn't a patch on 2000. 2000 has a better control and precision to it (Tempest x3 feels woolly somehow (ha!)) and the purity of the action is brilliant. A true sequel to the original.

I know people point to TxK and Tempest 4000 as being better remakes/updates but Tempest 2000 has the purity of the original and is the best remake. THe other two are more reimaginings with more complexity added to the gameplay, holding position and shooting a leg down the next lane etc. managing bad guys on the rim of the web isntead of desperately trying to keep them off it.

Now I just have the whole of the rest to explore :D

As the price had dropped picked up on the Switch for Lynx and Jag games as they were the only Atari consoles I have owned. Tempest 2000 is still great but was Cybermorph always that jerky my memory has it being fairly smooth!. Would have liked to have seen some Jag CD games Battlemorph, Iron Soldier etc or Atari ST hopefully there might be some DLC.

Its a great package with the old adverts and video clips
