Tiki taka is dead. Spain’s continual embracing of the style long after club football has moved on will simply condemn  them to years of being underwhelming at internationals. I said it at the time but that style of play is only as effective as it was because they had Xavi/Ineista pulling the strings in midfield. It relied heavily on two exceptional players to tick.

Spain now at 824 passes completed for their 1 shot, it seems Olmo's cross near the end of 90 the keeper palmed away wasn't credited as a shot on target.

 

Not sure they got time to hit the big 1k for 1 shot, that'd be a tough record to beat.

My mate has just come out with the perfect metaphor for Spain's football:

 

"It's like someone painting a faithful, 100% accurate depiction of the M6. Yeah, I get the skill to make it look so realistic. But it's not interesting, is it?"
