If anybody wonders does sport washing work then the world cup is showing why, as soon as the sport gets going all talk of protests, migrant worker deaths has quietened right down and in some cases you're starting to see the pro Qatari 'are they that bad' what a good job their doing' stuff appear (not just from Richard Keyes).

It's definitely helping them that although the quality has been low the drama has been very high.

I'd say to the extent that being true will be defined once the tournament has finished; if the noise disappears, then they've succeeded. Whilst the football was on it was always going to draw the focus.

I'm still not watching out of principle.

Need football? A good weekend across the women's game this weekend. Go support your local team or watch one of the WSL games on TV or the FA Player

England have the best goal difference of the three teams on 7 points, making us the best performing team of the group stages.

And as Harry Maguire has been our best player, that makes him currently the best player in the world.

Can't argue with logic.

McGuire has been fantastic against such pacey, dangerous attacking players.

Can't wait to see him face up an Mbappe! Easy, easy, easy!

American coach is a bit of an idiot. Those two clumsy and slow oafs at the back again when they have CCV who is perfectly suited for their style of play. Athletic, can move the ball quickly from defence into the attacking areas of midfield.

Easily nullified by the Dutch.

Edit: Steve Wilson has described Walker Zimmerman as appropriately named 😂

When you look at the Dutch squad, they could be dangerous in this World Cup. They have arguably the best defence in the tournament, certainly in terms of personnel. De Ligt hasn't made their starting line-up today. Their midfield is a bit weak, but they do have De Jong in there. Then two fast, skillful players in form up front. Gakpo looks like a future star. On top of this, their wing-backs are very good. Dumfries is a real danger-man, and Blind still has a lot of class and intelligence. They also have a hugely experienced manager who is belligerent in the face of media pressure. Their goalkeeper is their weak point for me, but he's performing decently as well. Everyone assumes that Argentina will beat them in the next round, but I'm not sure. I think they're the better team.

Shocking defending for their third goal.

that aspires to shocking defending. It’ll be shown as the exemplar of catastrophically awful defending whenever retired defender pundits get together with just a pair of microphones and a tv camera for company.
